Twisted Cross Ranch #2

Corruptor's Claim

Rate this book
I’m in love with my brother’s wife.

When River came back, I thought I’d gotten a second chance to make her mine. I had Mama’s ring ready and everything. Until the moment I found out she was already married–to Cross.

On paper, it’s a good thing, especially since the head of the Russian Bratva has her in his sights. The last thing I want is Dominik Volkov to make her a pawn in his twisted game of revenge.

Having our name should be enough, but even if it’s not, River should be safe with three strong protectors ready to die for her.

Me.
Cross.
And Bishop, the mysterious ex Navy SEAL working for us.

Unfortunately River doesn’t trust us. For good reason, we’re not the Southern gentlemen we’re pretending to be. And pretty soon she’ll figure it out.

She owns the ranch thanks to my father, but the deeper she digs into our books, the more of our secrets she reveals. It’s only a matter of time before she runs.

And I can’t lose her again, even if it means letting Cross keep her.

For fans of Yellowstone, USA Today Bestselling Authors K. Loraine & Meg Anne bring you a new dark cowboy mafia why-choose series. Red-hot, gritty, suspenseful, and loaded with angst, Twisted Cross Ranch is the escape you didn’t know you needed. Hang on tight, darlin’, these ain’t your mama’s cowboys.

I'm happy to report that I finished this book and immediately wanted to read it again, the same thing happened to me with the first one. It was just as heart-poundingly twisted as Sinner's Secret and with an even better/sadder cliffhanger.

Said cliffhanger was UNCALLED FOR by the way!!!! YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO ME (and to River). Yeah I was right about one thing relating to one character, but AT WHAT COST...

Sadly this isn't a paranormal series so there's no coming back from that specific thing that happened at the end *sniff sniff*. I'll find a way to survive somehow.

And the other thing that happened made me really excited for the next book (as if I wasn't already), I can't wait to see Bishop shine.

I know I said I'm not picking favourites, BUT HEAR ME OUT. BISHOP. THAT'S IT. THAT'S THE BEST MAN.

All the guys are ready to protect River, but I feel like Bishop goes the extra mile, you know? Like, it's in his DNA. And he hasn't really lied to her up till now, about anything, which is always a plus.

That doesn't mean that I don't love Cross and Walker though, I do, a lot, and they're right up there, buuuuut Bishop is like a millimetre ahead.

I love how all three of them interact with River, it tickles my soul in a specific way, and not just the romantic lines either. There's plenty of funny ones too.

I feel like I don't mention the steam enough in my reviews so I'm doing it now, because it deserves a shoutout. It's so good!!! Which is what I'm used to with these authors (hence why I don't feel a need to mention it always), but it deserves all the appreciation!!! Not everyone can write good steam, but Kim & Meg? They are true masters of it.

Actually, Kim and Meg are those authors who can write-write. I'm always in awe at how they can pull anything off, please never stop writing together, I beg.

The audiobook was, once again, excellent. I don't wanna repeat myself so everything I said about it in my review of the first book still stands, pleaseee get it, you won't regret it.

Now that there's only one book left I'm not going to wait long to jump into it, I would've read/listened to this one earlier, but I was on a trip and couldn't...but there's nothing stopping me from finishing the series in the next few days. I just gotta process this for a hot minute.

*Thank you to the authors for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

(audiobook) Disturbing flashbacks, confessions, major revelations, life-changing events, important decisions: the plot thickens.

It starts with a bang, the same bang that ended the previous book: all this time, River has been married to Cross. Unknowingly. Of course it puts a damper on Walker and Bishop pursuing her. But it also affects her relationship with Cross. At the moment, they pretend they hate each other–when in fact they’re keeping each other at arm’s length, afraid of hurting or being hurt. This new development forces them into a long overdue conversation.

But not right away. Honesty isn’t in the cards for any of them at first. But this is the book of confessions. Of secrets being revealed. Be it the business side of the Cross ranch, or feelings, River discovers a lot of things, and the reader a few too.

This is also the book of sharing. River admitted to herself that she was attracted to–and had some fun times with–the three men in her life in the previous book. Now it’s time for them to acknowledge that they won’t be able to keep her to themselves. This part was interesting. None of them are even remotely put off by sharing their woman, sometimes at the same time. They recognize the sacrifices they’re willing to make to have her, and consider her needs and wants. That may be when the love story takes off. It isn’t just lust after all.

As for the suspense side of the story, a lot happens too. The big villain launches an attack and it isn’t pretty. We see some connections between past and present. And it ends the book on another intense cliffhanger.

There’s still some humor in there, with Walker written as the comic relief. It adds some levity to a pretty heavy story. The spice helps too–it isn’t just the weather that makes it hot in here.

The narration is still great. I especially enjoyed how Cross’s narrator made the difference between young Cross and older Cross. There are way more characters–and some not so secondary–than there are narrators, and it can become confusing at times. I can’t wait for the next book.

I enjoyed the second book of this series, but not as much as the first. I feel like it’s so fast burn. I also need some more group scenes to be honest. This ends on a cliffhanger so I’m excited to see what happens.

Book 2 of 3

💜Cowboy/Mafia RH MFMM
💜First person/Multi POV
💜Audible, multiple cast members
💜No MM
💜No OW drama/cheating
💜Breeding kink
💜One guy gets beaten/tortured (some on page)
💜Kidnapping
💜Flashbacks of gruesome scenes
💜MAJOR MAJOR Cliffhanger ending

Listen…..that ending was brutal and I’m so upset right now 😭 If you REALLY want to know what happens, I will put it here after this paragraph. If you DON’T want to be spoiled on what happens at the end, either stop reading this review completely or skip the next paragraph. You have been warned.

How could you do that to my boy Bear 😭 I thought we were gonna have him in the harem until River mentioned they were like brother and sister. Then I thought we’d see an MC book with him but nooooo y’all had to go and kill him off. His death was on page. We didn’t get much of Bear but what we got made me want more. Maybe this is in the same world as the Mate Games and he will somehow come back 😭😂 Authors got me good on this for sure. I’ve never cried for a side character but y’all got me ugly crying. And to top off that majorly upset, River was kidnapped by his killer. That’s where it ends.

Ok end of major spoilers.

So book 2 starts right where we left off on book 1. It is confirmed that River and Cross are married as their dads tricked them into signing the marriage certificate the night of Rivers birthday party. Honesty with the way everything was set up, it was like the parents planned the wedding instead of her birthday, esp since they consummated their marriage that same night lol

Not too much happens in the book until the end. There’s back and forth between the characters. We did get a surprise sharing scene with Cross and Bishop which was hot! But while that was going on, Walker was being attacked so I was worried about him 😭 He turns out mostly ok though!

I’m glad we got Cross’s POV of the night of the birthday party and what he was really thinking. Made me understand him better. I’ve always liked all the guys but he was alittle hard to like until that. Bishop will always be my boy though. Still waiting for him to tie her up though 👀

I kind of wanted a spin off of Dom and him being in a harem until certain crap came to light of what kind of man he really is. I was thinking maybe he wasn’t THAT bad, that it was just rivals being rivals. But knowing what I know now, he can rot in hell. Guess I let the accent get to me and had rose colored glasses lol

Corruptor's Claim by K. Loraine and Meg Anne is a dark cowboy mafia why choose romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Stella Hunter, Jason Clarke, Aaron Shedlock, and J.F. Harding. This is the second book in the Twisted Cross Ranch series.

I absolutely love Kim and Meg's books and when you make them into an audiobook with this cast, you can't help but become obsessed with them. I was pulled in from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I am loving the chemistry between River, Walker, Daniel, and Bishop. I loved getting all of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

The book ended with a great cliffhanger that left me begging for more. I can't wait for the next book in the series Deadly Debt to be released on October 9, 2023, so I can get more of their story.

Stella, Jason, Aaron, and J.F. did an amazing job on the narration. They really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would highly recommend this series if you like dark romances, cowboy romances, mafia romances, or why choose romances.

I don’t feel like finishing this part of the series.
The more the story goes on—and everything revolves around one woman and three men who are inexplicably obsessed with her—the more it feels like it’s leading to some kind of “group thing,” and I honestly have no desire to read that, nor do I find it interesting.
Three guys and one woman…
That idea and theme are so overused in books that it’s become disgusting rather than exciting.

NononononononoNOOOO!!!!! You can’t kill off that character!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 SERIOUSLY 😭😭😭😭😭 NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! There is not an emoji strong enough to portray my devastation…

You know what? I’m going to GREATLY lower my rating because of whoever made the decision to kill this character. Killing a character like that does NOT improve the plot/character growth or the book.

UPDATE: Even days later, I’m still not over that ending and it makes me cry 😭😭😭

*Audiobook Review*

This book catapults you straight into the fallout of THAT revelation at the end of Book 1 into of the most deliciously tense breakfast scene ever. If you want an immersive audio soap opera style drama then this book is for you. Listen as a scene stealing Aaron Shedlock's Walker storms in and drops a grenade into our quartet. You can hear the anguish, pain, heartache and betrayal as Stella Hunter's River and Jason Clarke's Cross Jr as they are left reeling from the fallout and the magnetic, protective presence of J.F Harding's Bishop. These four are pure electricity together they bring these characters to life so well I feel like I am in that kitchen with them watching the drama play out around me.

It's another intoxicating listen from the diabolical geniuses K Loraine and Meg Anne as they take as through the next chapter of the Twisted Cross Ranch saga. This one is just MORE. More of that simmering sexual chemistry between River and her three guys but this time it is ratcheted up to inferno levels. #Whychoose fans will delight in the beginnings of some "group activities" shall we say.

But mixed in with that is some bittersweet heartache as there are a series of flashbacks chronically what actually happened to River and Cross Jr all those years ago. Devastating revelations and choices made by people around them and how it led to both their lives going down different paths. The exquisite pain and longing portrayed expertly by Stella Hunter and Jason Clarke is truly remarkable and amazing to listen to. River and Cross Jr navigating their relationship and coming to terms with revelations about the past is the cornerstone of this book and you feel that resonate in their performances.

If that wasn't enough, the authors manage to expertly ramp up the other elements of the plot and we find out more about the enigmatic Bishop, in more ways than one. A man in conflict with himself and his competing loyalties but at the same time a domineering and kinky AF lover and I personally can't think of anyone else who could play him as well as J.F Harding. He is just sublime and I defy anyone not to melt on the spot when listening to him.

And then the diabolical genius add more but sprinkling in their trademark laugh out loud humour in this one as well. A large proportion of which being delivered by the adorably funny and swoony Aaron Shedlock in many, as I said earlier, scene stealing moments in this one. Poor Walker goes through quite a lot in this one, the authors seem to be using him as their punching bag :), but strong painkillers are a wonderful thing and leads to some funny as hell scenes. Walker off his head on meds is an absolute joy to listen to, particularly when infused with the intrinsically talented comedic performance of Aaron Shedlock.

This is in short a hot, delicious, funny, heartbreaking, tension inducing, explosive book which you need to take yourself off into a dark room and listen to all in one hit. Trust me, its the biggest endorphin rush of your life!!!

And the plot thickens, and the secrets become even darker in book two of the Twisted Cross Ranch Series....

Corruptor's Claim is just as enticingly delicious as Sinner's Secret with the same cowboys and the love they share for one woman still very much the focus. Yet, as more of the story comes out and someone from River's past shows up for a visit you start to see exactly what is in store for River and her cowboys. It's not 24/7 "darlin get into my bed" although there is plenty of that. Then that moment with Cross, Sterling, and River?! For fucks sake, ladies.

Move over Walker Cross, there is a new man in town who has my heart. I knew in the last book Sterling Bishop was either going to royally tick me off or he was going to make me fall for him and he made me fall in love with him completely. It was in an instant too, one moment I was like "okay cowboy, let's see what you've got" and the next I was all in with him. Much like I was with J.F. Harding because goodness, watch out Jason Clarke, you've got some competition.

Which brings us to Cross, narrated by Jason Clarke. Gah, he won me over too though. Dang it, I need to get smart like River and just gather up a group of them because they all brought something different to the table. I won't go into what Cross brought but let's say if you read book one and remember that ending then you know what to expect.

And I was a bit bummed that Walker wasn't as present in this book, but it made sense, this story was building into so much with Cross and Sterling it was Walker turn to sit back and for lack of better words enjoy the scenery *wink* but don't worry you've got plenty of Aaron Shedlock to look forward to.

Then River, that woman has my entire heart. Between all three cowboys and River I would choose River every day and twice on Sunday. There is just something about a strong woman that really does it for me, and she wasn't about to start taking the cowboys bull without finally getting some answers.

To say this entire series is perfection is an understatement, but we still have more to come from the Cross brothers, the sexy ranch hand, and our main girl River. What's to come? Who the bloody hell knows but I can tell you is that I am entirely here for the ride.

I simply cannot get enough of this series.

Meg Anne and K. Loraine have created something special with this series and I'm so glad I picked it up. I am 100% invested in this story, the characters and the way that these two authors write. They, so effortlessly, suck you into their world. I listened to this on audio, and, like the first book, I think every single narrator did a phenomenal job. Stella Hunter, Jason Clark, Aaron Shedlock, and J. F. Harding really brought River, Walker, Cross, and Sterling to life. This is one of those books that can easily be read in one sitting. It was so damn good, I loved every single second of it. I cannot get enough of this series and I really can't wait to start book three after I finish writing this review because that cliffhanger was pretty brutal. I don't want to say much else because I feel like I might give something away. But if you're looking for a Dark, Cowboy, Why Choose romance, this is a book you need to pick up!!

This is the second book in the series in this series finally cross the river get through their issues from 10 years ago, basically crossed, leaving her and demanding that she never returns if she develops a closer relationship with Bishop finds out that bishop really isn’t who he is doesn’t completely know what he does, but that bishop swears to help her find out who killed her parents and then you have walker who ended up getting destroyed by the mafia the Russian mafia what I did to him and how they tortured him was horrible and river is helping to nurse him back to health having a hard time juggling all three men at once and dealing with what is being discovered, and her emotions cause upon her best friend bear. There is her saving angel who helped her out when she was at her darkest moments 10 years ago he shows up adds a little mixing into everything. I just love bear and I’m really upset with the ending so they’re all trying to keep protect her from the mafia at this point because they’re gunning for her. She’s been getting these notes left for her. It’s basically gonna turn out to be an all at war in the end, she gets captured in her home by the Russian mafia and her best friend bear ends up being unallied. Bishop swears that he will get her back.

A smoking hot and wild ride

Corruptor's Claim is the second book in the Twisted Cross Ranch series by coauthors Kim Loraine and MEg Anne. I really loved the first book in the series, Sinner's Secret, and this one carried that sentiment along. The book picks up from the cliffhanger ending of Sinner's and adds a whole new and very unexpected complication to the story of River and her three cowboys, Cross, Sterling and Walker. Holy heck this is a wild ride for a RH/why choose romance. Be prepares as this book ends with another cliffhanger....can't wait to find out what happens next.

Oh man, this book was an amazing second book of the series. This book picks up and runs with it. We learn so much more about what happened between River and Cross. We see where Sr. Has left us. As secrets come to light will River be okay? While Cross, Bishop, and Walter get the girl? Well after this cliffhanger I need book three ASAP.
