This novel centers around Eli and his two childhood friends growing up in inner-cityNorth Philadelphia. Rather than an attempted escape from poverty, crime, drugs, and corruption, the trio embrace the prevalent code of the streets between the years of 1978 and 1992. Their ecosystem revolved around Broad and Girard Avenue with the lights, sights, and sounds that brought this lively, yet dangerous, urban intersection to life around the clock.
This romantic tragedy highlights the power of women and the frailty of the rich and powerful in their quest for more. More money, more power, and more control, Eli tries to lead by example which included calculated decisions with violent terminations. Eli and his compadres encounter external and internal conflicts that provide plot twists to the riveting narrative. You will find this story easy to read but hard to put down. A s you become familiar with growing up in North Philly along with these compelling characters as experienced through the eyes of Eli.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! This story follows Eli, a young man in Philly in 1978 as he navigates making a name for himself while keeping out of jail. Eli is hardworking, lovable, loyal & determined to see his dreams fulfilled. It felt very real seeing the corruption of cops, the drug trade, and the ruthlessness of the streets. It was super easy to follow and imagine yourself in Eli’s shoes. My heart was aching at the end and I couldn’t put it down. I loved the relationship between Eli & Erin. There is obviously so much love and trust there, I was rooting for them the whole time. I will read the next book as soon as it comes out! I’m very excited to see where this story goes.
I would love if in the next story chapters could be implemented as it helps break up the story and leaves you desperate for more.
