New book, more things to think about! I have a lot of thoughts, but I guess my biggest realization is that Hildebrand is probably going to be A Problem. I mean, the royal family is a problem, but I feel like Hildebrand deserves the capitalization.

Can't wait to see what happens next since I feel like we're leading up to something big again in the next few books.

This book. While the last volume felt a little slow, this one more than makes up for it. A very stressful but enjoyable read that also made me want to cry. :P

I wondered when a worldbuilding aspect brought up volumes ago would become relevant, and here it is. I absolutely loved the further depth added to it here, and that one moment in particular when secrets come out... Oof! So good but so stressful. Plus, there's the heartbreak that follows after. Not immediate heartbreak, but it's setting you up for one. I will cry if and when that happens.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

The prologue is from Bonifatius's POV, and it's both about his internal thoughts on affairs and on him talking with Sylvester about said thoughts and affairs. There's one rumor in particular to be concerned about, and I don't know if this is supposed to be foreshadowing (knowing a spoiler), but it also makes sense from both viewpoints. But, it's nice to see so many concerns laid out in a natural way and from a POV different from Rozemyne's.

As for the main story, some of these concerns are mentioned to Rozemyne, but the main focus is what Rozemyne is up to while the Archduke Conference is happening. I've been looking forward to the Starbind Ceremony, so that was a lot of fun to finally see happen. I kind of wish this had been the bonus colored illustration, but I still enjoyed the black and white illustration of it.

I actually was expecting a bit more from the Starbinding, but the in-story reasons are enough to explain why we don't see more. Plus, that is hardly the important part of this volume. :P Even with Rozemyne spending most of her time in the library transcribing things, it didn't take long for things to take an exciting and stressful turn that really speeds along the plot.

I loved every moment of this, but this is a volume to read when you have plenty of time so that you don't have to suffer through work interrupting you. :P I won't say anything about where the plot is going by the end of this volume, but I'm dreading this future heartbreak (and really hoping something happens beforehand to change things). I cannot wait to get my hands on the next volume (curse being caught up with the physical releases).

As for the epilogue, it is told from Hildebrand's POV. It is him talking mostly to his mother Magdalena both about events he was unable to witness and about changes happening at the Royal Academy and his future--as well as his own desires for said future. I feel so bad for him--I both want him to attain what he desires while it also not being what I want for the story at all. :P He just seems so sweet.

The first bonus story is told from Lady Adolphine's POV. This makes me feel so bad for her, of her trying to find a way out of her engagement, of her not being able to, and of how Prince Sigiswald treats her. I never realized how unhappy she was.

The second bonus story is from Hortensia's POV, and it explains an exchange that happened earlier in the main story as well as adds more context to some of the problems Ehrenfest has been facing. It also has some behind the scenes worldbuilding, of Hortensia doing her job at the Royal Academy as well as conversations she has with others.

Finally, the bonus comics at the end. I loved the first comic as well as 'The Most Critical Issue.' The others weren't bad, either.

Overall, what a volume. I could hardly put it down. It had the same charm as always, and delving further into the worldbuilding is always fun, but it also was super stressful and heartbreaking. I LOVE the cover (especially after learning what it was representing). The inside color illustration seems an odd choice (especially with the Starbinding as a more interesting scene), but the author wanted Hannelore to be included, which really narrows the choices. I honestly think this is one of my favorite volumes, and I'm dying to get my hands on the next volume.

georgine is really shaping up to be the big bad of the series. yes, i do care about what happens to rozemyne and how she reshapes the world around her in her own image. but what i'm more intrigued by is just what the hell is georgine's deal.

After a few volumes where i couldn’t think of much to write about, the fifth instalment of part five sees the setting beginning to change dramatically!

Rozemyne is again faced with the troubling demands of those above her, but this time she is more prepared than ever to negotiate her position and squeeze out all the benefits that she can on her own!

Here we are also introduced to some new characters and reacquainted with some side characters in a way that invites speculation as to who will become the next protagonists, and who, the villains!

While there are no battle scenes in a literal sense in this volume, we see the occurrence of very significant events that thicken Kazuki Senseis wide reaching plot considerably! How will all play out? We will have to wait for the next volume!

It's good, but less good than some of the volumes. It feels like any time we expand the scope of this series, the quality downturns for at least half a volume.

Of the criteria required to become the Zent, Rozemyne has identified all four. To wit, she has also decoded the varying correlations among and between each criterion. Cool beans. But what the heck is she going to do with all of this information?

ASCENDANCE OF A BOOKWORM v26 is the type of volume for which longtime readers will surely gnash their teeth and rub their temples: opportunities persist, but allyships go sideways; secrets and suspicions emerge, but uncertainty guides narrative progress; arrogance and ignorance demand recourse, but empathy saves the day. One problem rolls into another.

Rozemyne has come a long way. In this volume, when the young woman is confronted with sacrificing her hard work for Ehrenfest and nearly strong-armed by the royal family, Rozemyne cuts the small talk and gets down to business. Now isn't the time for mopey heartbreak; now is the time to leverage all of her skills and experience to get what she needs. Her printing industry? Ferdinand's safety? Ehrenfest's economic and mana stability? It's time for "the merchant saint" to take charge.

The Archduke Conference has come around. Rozemyne is supposed to be the low-key translator of old slabs in the underground archive. As such, she's accompanied by Hannelore, her dear friend, as well as Prince Hildebrand and his mother (Magdalena, third wife). She is also supposed to be the seen-but-not-heard administrator of Prince Sigiswald and Lady Adolphine's Starbind Ceremony. Neither of Rozemyne's two duties go particularly as planned; and yet, the results of both prove remarkably intriguing.

Indeed, that whole conversation about the current and/or future Zent needing to possess the Grutrissheit? Rozemyne's studies in the underground archive reveal a connection to various events that make the fabled text's acquisition markedly simple. For example, whenever one enters the hidden archive, Schwartz and Weiss remark something akin to, "not enough elements" or "not enough mana." It turns out these rabbit-like-tools were actively referred to the criterion to obtaining the Grutrissheit: (1) continuous prayer to the primary deities, (2) possession of superior mana and mana control, (3) omni-elemental status, (4) royal bloodline ("registered" with, or married into, the royal family).

But what now? Almost nobody can consolidate their mana while so young. And what about the abandoned shrines peppered throughout the property surrounding the Academy grounds? Could they be related to the mandate for continuous prayer? These criteria sound easy, but since the end of the civil war, a chain reaction of missteps have produced few omni-elemental heirs, who don't pray, and aren't familiar with the ancient language of the old tablets that would properly instruct them to become the Zent.

More and more questions emerge. Particularly when Prince Anastasius and Lady Eglantine nose their way into the knowledge Rozemyne thought (but failed) to keep from them (Anastasius: "Anything that you attempt to hide will surely evolve into something monstrous behind the scenes," page 169). The interaction between the two royals and Rozemyne, surrounding their apparent obligations to obtain the Grutrissheit, results in remarkable tension. The leisure companionship Rozemyne thought she hand with these two turns somewhat sour when she realizes their willingness to sacrifice her comfort (and her desire to protect Ehrenfest) comes at an increasingly distant second to their parochial political directive to save the Sovereignty.

ASCENDANCE OF A BOOKWORM v26 has a fun and compelling way to shift its most consequential character relationships from antagonistic to entertaining to friendly. But it would appear the author is not above doing the reverse: If the royal family wanted to pluck Rozemyne from her backwater duchy, it could. Absolutely. And upon learning that the knowledge to acquire the Grutrissheit is within reach, it will try to obtain it. Undoubtedly. But Rozemyne's been here before. People have snatched her from friends, family, and books before. Except, this time, the young lady isn't going down without a fight.

The result? One of the volume's latter chapters, "The Merchant Saint," is one of the most hilarious and flawlessly entertaining chapters in the novel series thus far. Prince Sigiswald, full of ego and vigor, attempts to coerce Rozemyne into doing the royal family's bidding. Instead, what he gets is the ultimate smackdown that will leave readers cheering.

Not everything goes well, though. The events of the current volume occur over the course of a few frantic days, and much of what happens is kept between archduke families and the royal family itself. There's disagreement about who rightfully owns the knowledge to acquire the Grutrissheit. There's disagreement over the role of nobles in supplying mana to sustain the Sovereignty. There's even disagreement within the Sovereign temple (two factions emerge, and one is clearly more hostile than the other).

Other examples abound, such as when Sylvester is informed that Wilfried's teenage angst is inhibiting his development as future Aub. Sylvester makes (or, rather, repeats) a consequential decision that one might rightfully interpret as neglectful parenting. Another great example concerns Lady Adolphine, newly married to Sigiswald. Adolphine is shrewd and incisive, but the role of the passive homemaker is clearly not for her (she'll leave that to the simpering Lady Nahelache, the second wife). A further example will leave readers pondering about little Hildebrand. Poor guy. He's doing the best he can, but he can't catch a break. One wonders if the efforts of his closest allies might be doing more harm than good.

Again it seems like I have skipped a whole book but i think it was worth it due to me reading that the previous book was quite boring.
This book though Ohh my rosemyn your negation skills are legendary, there are some times that forget that you have held so many profession and being a merchant was one of them. She was a mixture of benno and Ferdinand and it was amazing to see the first price squirm. I am glad he has learn something and hope that he soon grows from it because just like Sylvester says rosemyn know how to raise people so let hope the makes the royals better.

Rosemyn is scary, amazing, and aww inspiring when she is determined to protect who is her family. I can’t wait to see Ferdinand’s reaction when he find out that she threatened royalty and guilted them for taking her guardian away from her just for him to be a bit happy. Girl you better find that thingy so the first price can be kind and return Ferdinand to his home duchy.

This volume is quite eye-opening.

We had quite a dive into various characters. For one, Bonifatius is a really likeable character, what with his immense love and plentiful affection for his granddaughter. But here, we see that he still is a noble and an archduke candidate through and through. We see his views on the temple, his views on Rozemyne's social circles and socialization, and his perspective on the current archducal family. It was quite a nice and eye-opening read.

Another eye-opening character is Sigiswald. All along, I had this idea of him that he's pleasant and a true-blooded royal prince. But alas. We are shown how he really is. I imagine him to be Wilfried if Wilfried hadn't received the Rozemyne-intervention. Also, time and again, I had to remind myself that Wilfried is just 13 years old. It was a challenging endeavor trying not to hate him.

We also see the real deal in the 'friendship' between Anastasius, Eglantine, and Rozemyne. To be honest, that part has me holding back my anger. There's simply too much difference in how they view each other and their friendship.

Aside from this, we see more of the chaos slowly but surely bubbling underneath all the chatter about the royal ceremonies. I am very much suspicious (actually, I am quite sure he is one vile character) of Raublut. I look forward to the day Rozemyne and Ferdinand wipe the floors with him.

This volume is really tense. Rozemyne's world is yet again turned upside down. Only now, no one's here to fight tooth and nail for her. Sylvester is quick to surrender and everyone can only seem to accept that Rozemyne is yet again slipping from everyone's grasps. I feel somewhat sad that Rozemyne's future was decided that fast. But alas, even she stopped pushing back against the royal family.

I can't wait for everything to be better. Thus, on to the next!

This was an exciting installment in the series, with lots of political maneuvering, holy rituals, and unexpected consequences.

I feel like this book tied several threads from previous books in the series together. I look forward to seeing where things go from here! Also, I love the cover of this volume. It's so pretty! 4.5 stars, rounded up.

The volume starts with the archducal family discussing the rumor that Rozemyne is in love with Ferdinand, which seems to be spreading, so Sylvester decides to talk to her.
Unfortunately Wilfried is particularly against her at the moment and the suggestion that she'd start caring for him like she does with Ferdinand mostly results in nagging which Wilfried doesn't appreciate (he probably already found her annoying from the start).

It was kind of sweet how her retainers seemed fully knowing and supportive, even though not explaining it to her caused a few issues. I can imagine how some will criticize where this is going, personally I don't think the age difference is an issue because she was already older than him before dying so technically she's always been an adult in a small body.

The Royal family is beginning to understand that threats might motivate her, but they will soon backfire because they can't contain her. Her exchange with Sigiswald was quite satisfying, few people can successful deal with her and he clearly wasn't one of them.

No, i did not read this one in Japanese. Just couldn't find a paperback edition in English on Goodreads.

Anyhow, there's lots of intrigue at the Archduke Conference. Engagements are made and broken. Deals are being made in hopes of finding the thing that will make the King/Zent the legitimate ruler. No one seems to have the positions they want or the romantic partner they want. There's lots of negotiations going on. Meanwhile, Rozemyne makes a tour of the shrines at the Royal Academy, and gains new powers, but still can't enter some parts of the library that she wants to visit. Poor girl is caught up in politics and power and religious rites and all she wants to do is read books she hasn't read before

Rosamyne is getting even more involved with the Royal family and she finally realizes why her family has been admonishing her to avoid them. Asked to perform the Prince's Starbinding, and to help search the archives for the key to beoming Zent, she finds herself caught in the middle of political intrigue. In this volume the story is finally getting exiting again as it reaches the point that the reader could have predicted many books before hand. We also have the introduction of a few new characters and some insight into others in the epiloges which are always written in the point of view of those other characters.

sooo she's about to be wife 3... to the wilfried-esque prince... but I think she'll be able to handle him...
I'm also a bit nervous about Hortensia because it seems like the mole is the knights commander... also also I can't wait to see wilfried's reaction to rozemyne not being married to him anymore and about no one being able to marry outside of the duchy... personally I want charlotte to be the aub... but lets see if sylvester allows it... if he doesn't allow if and still wants wilfried to be be aub even though he suuucks then sylvester is officially on my shit list.

This is very much about the political machinations of the royal family and Rozemyne finally understanding why her adoptive family were so worried about her getting too close to the royal family. But the understanding comes too late and she and her adoptive family have to deal with the consequences. I enjoyed reading this volume even though it is definitely a set up for what will follow next. I am looking forward to the next volume that comes out in September.

9/10. Read it a long time ago through J-Novel. I was so angry at the royals. The idea that they think they can do whatever they want is frustrating. Myne simply going along with their wishes is also frustrating. Also, she obtaining everything she needs as requirements to becoming Zent in just one volume is quite shows a bad pacing. How come are some volumes slow with nothing happening and here everything happens is one day.

And we are back at the Academy in this one, but for the Archduke Conference. But just being there is a simplifying assumption, especially because so many of the characters are not there. And the plot really seems to move in this one. And almost completely non-cringy. Though some of the male characters ... sigh ... are written to be pretty awful. Sylvester comes off as being pretty reasonable. Lot of bargaining, lot of deal-making. But not bad.

The whole point of this book, i really hate Royal Family. They keep making unreasonable demands to Rozemyne and Ehrenfest.

Our cinnamon roll Hildebrand just a cutiee, can't help but get anxious about him in next volume. I know what will happen, poor baby.

Rozemyne take everything to safe Ferdinand in Ash land, "of course he's family to me" u sureee????
but for her brain book maniac gremlin probably it is

In a way this was a frustrating volume to read as the nobles continued robbing Rozemyne of everything she hold dear. She also learned the hard way that . It certainly made me dislike a certain character and many other nobles, particularly the royal family.

The quality of ranobe decreases over time. I still enjoy the idea behind the world but routine chores look redundant now. Rosmein still thinks about her family, books but all that goes to the second stage versus Ferdinand and all Jurgenshmidt political future... It was quite boring to read regarding staff that doesn't matter anymore

Well, it finally happened. If you know, you know. These last 2 books have remained very political, and in a way i’m glad Wilfried gets to make his choice, and Charlotte has the option to stay. Sounds like Sigeswald is going to get a rude awakening when it comes to dealing with Rozemyne. The whole royal family is i think. Lol.

Major developments in this one. I was so excited on the shrine quest & to see what happens next. Rozemyne cannot be Wilfried's wife. That is not in the cards. As much as I know she wants to stay in Ehrenfest to be close with her family, she's destined for bigger things.

Amazing

I freaking loved it. Rozemyne is going above and beyond for her mentor. I'm in shock she can't be the ruler. Furthermore her country won't be the same without her.
