This book was recommended to me by a therapist who specializes in ADHD techniques and strategies. Naturally I remained skeptical (because that's my tendency!) Nevertheless, I enjoyed "Executive Functioning Workbook For Adults With ADHD" overall for its effective blend of story-telling, self-assessments, and actionable steps. The author clearly understands what folks with ADHD seek in terms of navigating and processing the world (and he's great about revealing what it's like when you realize for the first time that your brain functions differently from people around you). Each section provided valuable insights (although some, of course, resonated more than others for me), and I'm eager to implement many of the tools offered--decluttering and curbing impulsivity might be my first goals.
As someone new to the ADHD journey, I appreciate the inclusion of assessments and real-world examples within the book. These elements helped me feel less isolated in my personal quest for a more calm relationship with the world (maybe I can stop those walls from jumping out as I am calmly walking down the hallway?).
For adults with ADHD the impacts can be felt on every part of their daily lives. When I was young, I was always told that I was “hyper” but I was never officially diagnosed with ADHD. It became a joke with my friends to say that “…I was just being ADHD again!” to define my behavior. But it is no joke and I wish I had had this book back then to help me with my disorder. It would have helped me with the issues I was having at school, with relationships at home and how I see myself. It’s never too late to start working on your mental health and this book is a great tool for people suffering in silence with this neuro-disorder. I use this workbook to help me with my focus and organization. The 8-day journaling workbook helps you to face the challenges of an adult life and workplace. I use what I have learned in this book to help the students I work with in a high school. Pay it forward!
This workbook turned out to be an eye-opener for me. I was recently diagnosed and have been feeling a bit stigmatized and hopeless. This book has science-backed methods aimed at improving executive functioning in just eight days. The exercises and techniques provided a structured and manageable way to handle procrastination, improve memory, and better manage my emotions - These are the exact same areas that I struggle with. The emphasis on both cognitive and emotional aspects were particularly helpful. This book is a valuable tool for anyone looking to take control of their ADHD and enhance their daily functioning.
Must read for ADHD adults and teens. This book is well written and the language is easily understandable. The book provides a lot of examples and also the theory side of it all. I enjoyed the parts that were from real-life people and their experiences and situations. The book aims to help people have better focus and time management tools to help them thrive in work, relationships and home life balance. Full with places to work on the tips provided and start improving your life from day 1.
Loved the insight and suggestions for improvement in executive function. Personally, I have been struggling with non existent focus, poor working memory and time management for a year and this book has helped a lot so 5 stars.
