Rate this book
Malena, the reluctant heir to the Calderón mafia family, is forced to marry Emmanuel Vera after her father dies.
Emmanuel and Malena hate each other after a toxic teen relationship and an even worse breakup, but when the Calderón boss left him in charge of his business and the protection of his daughter, Emmanuel took the chance to make her pay for what she did to him almost a decade ago.
Malena chose Santiago Alemán, a good boy from a decent family, but she realized he was a weak man and a terrible boyfriend. After she dumped him, he tried to accept his real self while he got into business with the Vera brothers and quickly learned when you work for the mafia, you become the mafia.
Miguel Ángel Vera seduced Malena just to spite his brother, all the while surveilling her, but he ultimately delivered her to Emmanuel. His loyalty is tested repeatedly as he witnesses his brother torture the woman he loves and deals with the aftermath of his betrayal of her.

I am the first person to say that I’m generally not a huge fan of why choose. I tend to get personalities mixed up, dynamics confused, and honestly I get stressed trying to remember who is who. This book is the exception.

Each of the 3 guys has their own distinct personality, their own dynamics both with Malena and each other, and watching those dynamics change throughout the book was so fun. I also really enjoyed the fact that so many of the characters are queer, which is something that’s uncovered kind of slowly from some of the characters throughout the book. I also loved that we see Malena be dominant with Santiago but more submissive with Miguel Angél and Emmanuel.

There were definitely times that the plot seemed to just vanish and there was just spicy scene after spicy scene after spicy scene. But, honestly, they were all hot so I didn’t mind at all.

My only complaint is that some of the early chapters felt a little choppy and I was lost trying to keep up with who was who but that was worked out pretty quickly.

If a book claims to be reverse harem & mafia, it’s an immediate read for me. The beginning was a little confusing with several time jumps, but once the timeline was more established, that confusion was cleared up. Malena and her three men are funny and compelling. I love the chemistry between her and each man individually, but also the group dynamic established with her, Santiago, and Miguel Ángel. I’m excited to see how Emmanuel battles his possessive ways in order to make Malena happy. The end was a light cliffhanger & I’m hoping to see Malena unleash herself on all these mafia men in the next book. (I received this as an ARC)

Calderón Heir had me absolutely captivated, I really enjoyed it. From the very first page, I was drawn into a world of intricate characters, and compelling narrative. With each page, I found myself becoming more emotionally invested in the story.

What truly sets this book apart is the spice and passion evident throughout the story. I personally liked the way the author combines the elements of Cuban mafia with a passionate romance. The contrast between danger and desire adds layers of complexity to the narrative. Although I didn’t have much time lately, every time I did read, it was impossible to put the book down; I always ended up reading five more pages.

The characters come alive with raw, authentic emotions, and their connections are electric. My favorite characters were Malena and Miguel Angel. Although Malena has a connection and history with Santiago and Emmanuel, I felt that she and Miguel Angel are drawn to each other like magnets, I felt their chemistry practically sizzling off the pages.

For me, this book is a sexy 5-star journey that I can’t recommend enough, especially if you’re looking for a story filled with spice, love, passion, and unforgettable characters, set against the backdrop of the Cuban mafia’s dangerous allure.

Let me introduce you to your new favorite book boyfriends! ⭐️5 🌶️5

This is a mafia romance, so be sure to check trigger warnings. There’s some violence but not a lot and it’s not super graphic, the focus is definitely more on the relationships and character growth while still having solid and gripping plot.

The story is multi POVs, but each character is easy to distinguish from each other. If you’re like me and usually constantly have to flip back to remember who’s pov you’re on, I doubt you’ll have the same problem with this book. You just KNOW.

Let’s start with Malena, our FMC. Does she make bad decisions? Yes. I’m I with her on them 100%? Also yes! She makes petty and maybe (only slightly) bratty decisions that you just can’t help but cheer her along! (🎶They had it coming, they had it coming, they only had themselves to blame!🎶) the story takes place after her father (the mafia Don) passes away in a tragic accident, her grief is very well written, it never feels like the love interest magically “cure” her of her grief. As a result of his death, she’s dragged kicking and screaming into the mafia world she wanted no part in.

Then there’s Emmanuel, the man dragging her kicking and screaming into it (with some help* but we’ll get to that later). She broke his heart when they were young and he’s determined to make her pay for it because my man can just not let it go. I hate him. But, I also love him and I hate that I love him. He’s stoic and a jerk but also caring and protective (touch her and die☠️😏)

Santiago, her spineless ex fiancé who will drive you absolutely up a wall but then back down, gets ‘dragged’ in with her when he starts working for Emmanuel in hopes of winning her back. Did I hate him at first? Yes. But his growth as he comes to accept his trauma and sexuality is such beautiful and truly impressive character development you can’t help but to end up loving him.

Then finally there’s Miguel Ángel (the help* also known as MA), he’s Emmanuel’s brother, who started seeing Malena just to spite him. I absolutely LOVE this man. He’s brutally honest, never afraid to step in or put someone in their place. He’s witty and smart and will absolutely put his money (or hands) where his mouth is. He brings the best out in everyone with his straightforward attitude, he’s never hesitant to call anyone out when needed.

All in all, their individual personalities work beautifully together, each one is important and well rounded. The plot keeps the book a page turner and the romance and relationship dynamics keep you thoroughly entertained the whole time. It flows well and reads easily, so you’ll definitely get lost in the story!

I was lucky enough to beta read this amazing book.

5⭐️ 4 🌶

First, this is a dark mafia why-choose, so expect the spice and violence to be present. Violence not as much as spice, but it is there.

Malena is a take no crap kind of girl, but she also petty as heck. Which I love. She does have a way of not making the best decisions, but you start to see her develop slightly in that regards. She definitely has the snarcky attitude and I loved her bringing the men that try to dictate her to their feet with her wits alone. She is in mourning and being forced into a marriage really makes her act out in ways, but I think she has every right to that reaction.

Emmanuel is the jerky ex/forced marriage man in her life. He and Malena had a thing in their younger ages and it did not end well. You see he still holds a grudge for it all these years later, but also can not seem to lose the hope and love he had back then either. I had a love-hate relationship with him and I hope he develops more in future books, bc I would like to love him. He is so protective and it makes me melt.

Santiago is amazing. You go from hating him, to feeling for him in this book. I loved him coming into himself and learning it is okay to be whatever you want, and this is some thanks to Malena. Their dynamic is one of mistakes, forgiveness, and acceptance and it was honestly wholesome.

Now to my favorite character, Miguel Angel or MA as the book sometimes coins him. He is amazing and I can't help but adore him over the other men in Malena's life. Yes, their start was not the best, but his feelings were for real and he fights to make that known to her. He goes against his brother to make her his. I loved how he claimed her and let everyone know that he refuses to change his mind. He is kind, funny, and just adorable, but he could also flirt his way into a paper bag if he was challenged too. He is unapologetic and he is my favorite.

This book deals with death of a parent and does have a dark theme to it with the forced marriage and mafia theme. Y.L. Zamora has also wrote this book with her culture in mind and I feel she has definitely showcased it beautifully in these pages. This book is more character driven, but the plot is still there and I was honored to read this book.

I received this as an arc read. I would say the time jumps in the beginning were a tad confusing at first when it all made sense in the long run. But this reverse harem book is a 10/10 for me. You get action, mafia, morally grey mmc, a little bdsm quality, and not to mention the fmc owning her body and her men❤️❤️❤️. The spice in this book is 🌶️🌶️🌶️🔥🔥🥵. These fictional characters are all working through their own individual problems while trying to figure out their relationship(s). I can't wait to read more because the cliff hanger had me screaming.

I got this as an ARC!! I absolutely loved this book!! I loved all of the characters. This is a mafia why-choose. Malena Calderón was forced to marry Emmanuel cause her father died. Emmanuel was going to become the Don now. I would have to say I loved Miguel Ángel, Santiago, and Malena together better than Emmanuel and Malena. But I also loved the hate/love relationship that Malena and Emmanuel had.

Oh my goodness, blown away, cruel, and spicy! Just the right amount of plot to go with the spice! I’m a sucker for mafia books bc it’s always touch her and die and this lived up to that hype. Our main girl gets herself in trouble in more ways than one 😉 but manages to get saved just in time. I certainly hope you can write the next one super quick bc that cliff hanger 👀

I recently had the pleasure of diving into the captivating world of "Calderón Heir" by Y.L. Zamora, and let me tell you, it's an exhilarating rollercoaster of a spicy Latino mafia romance that left me utterly spellbound. At first, I admit, I was a tad bewildered by the multiple POVs and non-linear timeline, but as the story unfurled, everything fell into place, and I was hooked. What makes this book an absolute gem is the undeniable sense of fun and sexiness that permeates every page. From the sizzling tension between Malena and Emmanuel, stemming from their tumultuous past, to the fiery queer tension between Santiago and Miguel Ángel, the chemistry in this story is off the charts.

The intense blend of passion, revenge, and redemption in "Calderón Heir" makes for an irresistibly magnetic tale that keeps you glued to the pages. Y.L. Zamora has crafted a vivid and thrilling narrative that keeps you guessing, all while celebrating love in its many forms. If you're looking for a heart-pounding, steamy romance set against the backdrop of the dangerous Calderón mafia, don't miss out on this electrifying read. ARC review

The chemistry between Melina, Emmanuel, Miguel Angel, and Santiago is off the charts, adding an extra layer of sizzle to the story. This book offers more than just steamy romance. Melina shines as a strong and capable protagonist, stepping up and taking charge when the situation demands it. Her transformation into a true boss is a joy to witness.

While this book delivers on the spice factor, it also leaves tantalizing hints of an underlying story that I hope will be further explored in the next installment. I can't express enough how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a captivating blend of passion, intrigue, and empowerment.

Title- Calderón Heir
Author- YL Zamora
Method- kindle
Length- full length novel
Tropes- whychoose, force marriage, mmfm
Spice- 5/5  🌶
Overall-4/5

Summary-
After the death of her wayward father, Malena is faced with the reality of being the only daughter of the Calderón group. A well know mafia group. She must marry a guy she has a harsh past with, but she still kinda in lust with her ex-fiance and she is now falling for her future brother in law.

My opinion-
So first thing first, Latin heavy culture is a huge plus for me. As a mixed Latina its hard to find really good books that show up us and mix the culture of America and our heritage. I really loved her inclusion of Spanish. Also, its a hawt 🔥  book. So spicy. I loved every scene and it was amazing. I know others said it may be a little too much BUT I think its was perfect. Each male character has such a unique style and mannerism I really loved how they interacted with each other. They are the reason I gave 5/5 spiciness.

So why I gave it 4 out 5 in just overall is because it was a little choppy in the beginning and I didn't know who's point of view it was right away but a page or two later I could easily tell so it wasn't that huge of a problem for me. I'd definitely buy and read again, especially with the spicy art with the three men.

I'd like to thank the Author for giving me this Arc for my honest review. Remember this is my opinion and my honest review. I have the right to feel like this.

Truth to be told, as much as I wanted to like this. I couldn't ☹️. I tried to read this many times but this isn't my cup of tea. I didn't enjoyed reading it.

It was confusing but mostly importantly. I couldn't vibe with the characters. I didn't like any of them, I didn't care for any of them and I was uninterested with them.

Something that made me uncomfortable were the main leads talking about the female main character and also when the spicy scenes were happening. How the characters were talking to each other, it didn't make me feel interested but instead uncomfortable. Majority of the people will like that, but for me I didn't.

I really wish I could've enjoyed it and read it but sadly, I couldn't.

So delicious

Words, I need the words.

I enjoyed this book immensely, I loved Malena, I loved the dynamic between her and each of the male character, Emmanuel, Miguel Angel, and Santiago.

Each character had and kept their own unique voice and personalities throughout the story.

I will say the story is more focused on the characters than the plot and I cared very little because the characters were giving me everything.

The spice was spicy, the steam, steamy, and the smut, smutty.

In books the female main character always has the pet names “baby girl”, “little one”, etc. and that was present here but you know what else was “good boy” AND I MELTED FOR IT.

I read the book twice before giving this review. I’m reading again to annotate my favorite parts.

This book sends you on a roller coaster, not in a bad way!

It's a dark mafia whychoose that keeps you coming back for more. Malena doesn't want her father's crime life but that doesn't stop it from coming after her. While dealing with being the Heir, Malena has to deal with her old relationship, Emmanuel, her current fiance, Santiago, and her situationship Miguel-Angel.

These men are hot, dangerous and head-over-heels in love with Malena. And honestly, I'm all for it! The smut was amazing and I loved the dynamic of the group. The plot line was great, and I can't wait to see how it unfolds in the next book!

This unfortunately turned out to be not my jam :(

The beginning of the book with the jumping timelines and the pov switches in the beginning - without the characters being properly introduced - was very confusing, and unfortunately, that did weigh heavy for me.

After that, it definitely gets a little better, and I can see the potential of the story. It's very, very spicy!

Loved the last chapter! Reminded me of The Godfather.

This book was spicy 🌶️ and I can’t wait for the next book!
The beginning was a little confusing going back and forth between the past and the present. It is a why choose mafia romance. Malena knows what she wants and is not ashamed of it. She loses her father and has to marry Emmanuel who is now in charge. To say these two don’t have a past is an understatement. She is also dealing with her ex fiancé which she dumped Santiago and Emmanuel’s brother Miguel Ángel Vera.

I got lost A LOT, but the story is there.
The spice was okay, kinda felt like it was written by a teenager. It wasn't smooth flowing, if that makes sense.
And as a preference, I like the translations in the para (mainly with physical books as Kindle does it for me), but that's just me being picky!
I'll definitely give the second one a shot after that ending though!

eARC review: I was a little confused in the beginning with all the different timelines but after a bit more reading I was able to get back on track. I thought the book was good, it had some errors between POVs with Santiago and Emmanuel. Other than that, the spicy scenes were good. Definitely had me blushing throughout the book. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the second one!! The beginning was a little hard to follow at first because I went in blind but then I read the excerpt here on Goodreads and I was able to grasp exactly what was going on. And once I did I loved what I was reading. There is a ton of spice and the different dynamics of her relationships with the men LOVE!!! I don’t usually like why choose romances where all the guys aren’t on board from jump street but I liked this one and I have a feeling everyone will come around by the second book. I hope we’ll get more of the underlying story in the next book because I loved seeing her as a badass in times when she needed to step up and be the boss! Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I usually have a favorite man in the group but I loved each of them!!

eARC review
The beginning of the book was quite confusing, multiple time jumps, as well as multiple pov. I found myself a bit lost, and I didn't really start to have a clear visual of the setting and the characters until about 30% of the way through it. I wish there was a little more character building in the beginning to compensate for the time jumps.
The story itself was interesting, and the spice was definitely spice-ing
At around 70% completion of the book, I was honestly rooting for the other characters aside from the FMC

Once I started to read this I could not put it down and I was blown away. It was spicy with just the right amount of plot to go with it. This was only the second book by Y.L that I have devoured in one sitting. This was a different read from worthy of a raven book but I enjoyed it just as much much.

"She was a little crime princess hidden in the suburbs while her dad put the fear of God in the city, and I was. . .well, a delinquent. . ." - Emmanuel

Malena has remained sheltered and as far away from her father's mafia world as she possibly could. Even choosing the "normal/good boy", getting into college with a legal career in mind, and more. But when her father's Will is read her past comes back for her and she's forced to face Emmanuel. A boy who broke her heart many years ago that is now a man in charge of a mafia group!

Malena will not be forced back into the mob world without a fight! She has to navigate through these unsure waters and fast as things are changing very quickly for her. Not to mention old feelings that were locked away are now surfacing along with new ones as she may be falling for more than one man! Will she ever be able to escape the mob life?

"She was gorgeous, sassy, feisty too, and I couldn't stop eyeing her thick thighs. . ." - Miguel Angel

Unfortunately, none of us can choose the lives we are born into, we just have to make do with them the best we can. Malena certainly never wanted to be the daughter of a Don! Her father sheltered her the best he could from the uglier sides of the mafia world but still, she wants nothing to do with it. Part of growing up is realizing that when you are an adult and of legal age, you can make your own decisions and walk away from things!

Only right as Malena believes she is free, something or rather someone pulls her back into that life. I loved how Malena didn't put up with anyone and spoke her mind! Even to a hardened man who was now the acting Don. Malena agreed to things because she had to, but she made it very clear that she hated every minute of it!

Malena's having boy troubles with her ex-fiancé, her ex-first-love, and a man she was hoping to start a relationship with. As you can imagine, drama between all the MMCs as they try to sort out their jealousies and attractions. We get multiple POVs to see how everyone is really feeling about each other. I especially enjoyed reading the banter between Miguel and Santiago! Not to mention the crazy sexual tension building up between those two! Emmanuel wasn't my favorite, but I am interested to see how his arc will end.

"I'll shoot you if you act stupid." - Miguel Angel (to Santiago with love)

I really loved getting to understand more of the Hispanic culture as I devoured this book. The author is wonderful in adding cliff notes at the end of every chapter so you can understand the dialogue that took place. The book is centered around a Cuban mafia family who hang onto their roots/culture. The descriptions of the dances and what they symbolized was phenomenal!

The author is Cuban and with this work I felt like she really allowed herself to be free and proud about that! I could see and feel a lot of healing happening for the author and the characters on the page. I was really drawn to all the raw emotions displayed throughout this book! You will feel a spectrum of emotions with this read. We have so many healing arcs and arcs of overcoming past traumas and controlling parents. Growing up and realizing that you may not ever be enough for someone but are you enough for you?

Please read over the TWs, there's a long list of them. If you are like me, you don't really mind a lengthy list. This is a mafia book so expect blood, violence, and gore. Language is very prominent in this book both English and Spanish words. There's talk of grief and the truth of how it never just truly goes away. Panic attacks, depression, some of the MCs have heavy pasts and things they had to go through. Mention of alcohol and drug abuse.

I appreciated the authenticity of the female body and how yes, hair is a thing! The MMCs not caring at all about the au naturel female body. The spice in this book. . .the spice in this book was off the charts! We get fun scenes with a Dom female and a Sub male! Power plays along with back door play and different pairings. (MF, MFM, MFMM, and MM) "Teach Me", "Good Boy", "Good Girl", some degradation play and more! Make sure to have a partner, a cold shower, or a battery powered friend available, that's all I'm going to say. . .

This first installment just has so many amazing things in it this review could go on! But you will just have to read this wonderful book, with yes, a cliffhanger. I cannot wait for the second part of this duet to see what's going to happen. There's a unique timeline at the beginning of the book but it helps to really set the stage for everything! I love how it was done and am excited for more.

Enjoy the why choose mafia romance with different burn rates, tropes, and reps. Some of the representations do include ADHD, autism, plus sized FMC and LGBTQ+! Ah! Just read the book and don't forget to give the author some stars!

📕BUNNY’S🐰 ARC REVIEW 📕

Book rating: 4 / 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice level: 4 / 5🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Okay the beginning with the time jumps was kinda off putting and confusing but as you push on forward it becomes easier to get a grip on. Finished it in 1 sitting!

The storyline is brilliant, it takes place in the mafia world mixed with spice. Lots of ups and downs. Flashbacks as well. Very thorough plot and doesn’t have missing holes. You can tell how well thought out it was because the entirety of the book flows incredibly smoothly. I won’t give you too many details because I need you whoever is reading this to stop what you’re planning on doing for the rest of the day and pick this book up ASAP.

There are 3 lovers involved with her, who all have their internal battles that they have to face for them to realize they want to be deserving of her and they will do whatever it takes to be with her. My personal favorite is Miguel, he has just unleashed her demons to her fullest potential and she finds so much freedom in him that she allows herself to let loose in her sexuality. They all bring their own thing to the table like Santiago brings out her dominant features and he submits to her every need and whim. Emmanuel is her first love and we all know you never really get over your first love, with them it’s that firey enemy to lover energy. It's all consuming and the more you deny it the more you can't. He brings out the submissive part in her. I love how in a way all three of them bring out her best features at the same time balance her flaws as well.

Our female MC embodies dark feminine energy, she is a female fatale. Deadly looks, oozing with sex appeal, strong-willed and my favorite stubborn as hell. She takes what she wants and she won’t apologize for it or settle for less! Including the 3 men who are on their knees begging for licks and her love. 😏🙈

SPICE WAS OFF THE CHART when I said my kitty was in a CHOKEHOLD. I am not exaggerating! It was top-tier spice without the cringe words! Thank goodness for that! Kitty meow meow purrring, and twitching and had to cool down a few times not gonna lie. Lets just say drenched. No more like FLOODED. 😂🙈👹 Had to fan it down there! 😂 Had feral moments but also some very tender ones as well. I do love the duo lingo part to it as well. Adding that extra layer of spice on top. Picante baby. 🌶️😏

I do wish there was more fulfilling moments in between all the smexy scenes, like there needs to be a balance and not it just being straight up “lets scratch that itch” for a whole chunk of the book. Not complaining cause I am a simp for that! Just wish it was a little more balanced out. More fillers in between kinda if thing.

Leaves off on a cliffhanger and I 100% know Imma be first in line to read the next book. Now if you could excuse me I'm off to reread it! 😂🙈🫡

Received as an arc and all opinions are truthful and solely my own. Thank you for the opportunity 🖤
