Jackson Falls #4

Redemption Road

Rate this book
A decade ago, she walked away from everyone and everything that had ever mattered to her. Now, she has to face her past to find her future.

Whenever Colleen Bradley Berkowitz had imagined her homecoming—which hadn't been often—she’d imagined sweeping into town on a wave of triumph. Never had she pictured herself limping in with empty dreams and emptier pockets, behind the wheel of a car that should have long since met its destiny in the crusher. Forced to depend on the goodwill of the sister who's a virtual stranger to her, Colleen has just two goals: to avoid all family entanglements, and to escape from Jackson Falls the minute she has enough money socked away.

But life is what happens while we're making other plans. Her sister is determined to rebuild their precarious relationship. Attractive single dad Harley Atkins and his twelve-year-old daughter, Annabel, start worming their way into her heart. And when a surprise visitor shows up at her door, the stakes are raised, forcing Colleen to reevaluate all those bridges she burned years ago.

REDEMPTION ROAD is a heartwarming story about love, about sisterhood, and about second chances.

Love Love Love this Author! After only a few pages I easily transitioned right back to Jackson Falls Maine. She uses enough details from the other books in the series to solidify story lines without excessively repeating plots. At this point in the series the characters felt like old friends to me. I loved learning more about Colleen's life after she left town. Sometimes in life you have to come full circle to find yourself. The story embraces that you have to allow yourself to make and learn from mistakes and move forward. Sometimes people can use their fear of others disappointment in them to continue punishing themselves. My only complaint is that I wanted to read more and felt the ending was a little rushed. I say that only because I never prepare myself for the book to inevitably end and feel disappointed when it is over. I am looking forward to her next book already. I want to continue seeing more of Rob and Casey but also excited to see where life takes Mikey and Paige.

I loved getting to know Casey's younger sister, Colleen. Hers is a painful tale and as the title suggests, it's about redemption. Most importantly, I think the redemption finally comes because she learns to forgive herself. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll be anxious for more of this saga by the end. Personally, I'm still waiting for Mikey's and Paige's story. There is a small glimpse into that here. For the fans of Rob and Casey, you'll get more of them, too.

One of my favorite parts to this story was the introduction of Harley Atkins. He's a fun addition to the Jackson Falls family and a perfect match for the acid-tongued Colleen. His daughter, Annabelle, will surely provide material for future stories. Each time I dive into the world of Jackson Falls, I can't help getting excited for the many tales left to tell.

So, I have read all the other books in this series. (I actually made sort of a marathon of the last 3.5 books) I read #1 over a year ago, and it was one of those books that actually took me THAT long to get over the book hangover. I couldn't revisit this story until my heart had healed.
Anyway, I am loving this series and I can't wait until book #5 comes out. I am thoroughly hooked on The Jackson Falls series. I will read them if she makes 20 or 30 of them. I don't think I could ever get sick of them. And, I love that each book revisits Casey and Rob, and also Danny. I miss their story, and I love seeing it continue. But, let me say, they seem to have the strangest family. Somehow 3 families have grouped together in multiple couples. It's crazy and until you read it, it does sound a little incestuous. (Please don't take that as a bad thing, its just crazy how they have all kept themselves so intertwined) I hope everyone reads this series. It's so beautiful and I can't say enough about it. Please read them. All of them.

This is one of the best series I have read. I love hearing about Casey and Rob but it was good to find out what was Colleen's story. It was sad why she left her son Mikey but it was good that he found out that she didn't just walk away from him when he was a child. I also loved the added bonus of Mikey and Paige. I thought this was the end of the series but have since read there is a another book coming out. I like to see what is going to happen with Mikey and Paige and also where Colleen and Harley end up. I also thought that Casey and Rob's story was finished but what happened at the end of this book I just hope that we get to see them add to there family and finally put the past ghosts behind them. Fantastic book and series. Look forward to the next installment.

Good BUT...

I love this series but this was probably my least favorite of the bunch.

Colleen's story with so many others as well...

It was a good story but a lot of it seemed about Mikey and Paige as well.

So we finally learn why it was that Colleen really left. She didn't just walk away from her son.

Harley is great. It took him & Colleen more than half the book to clue in. Pretty much up to the last few pages she was still leaving come spring and then BAM!! she is staying and POW!!! HEA.

I will be generous and rate this book 1 star. I got taken in by the series but this book was a complete and total waste of my time. It dragged on for ages and said nothing. I knew the story line by page one. If she writes another book in this series I will not be reading it.

From what I knew of Colleen in the previous books in the series, I was all ready to dislike her, but I found I just couldn't. I think she was more lost than anything.

Colleen comes home again after many years when her rich older husband Earl dies and his kids kick her out of the house. Earl left her everything in his will, but his kids had other ideas and Colleen is too upset and tired to fight them. She goes back to her parents house, only to find they don't live there anymore, but a handsome stranger named Harley and his teenage daughter do. With nowhere else to go, she goes to her sister Casey's house with the intention of staying long enough to save some money and move on again. Casey and Colleen haven't been close since their mom died when they were young.

The harder Colleen tries to find reasons and money to leave, the more the universe keeps making it impossible for her to do so. Her son Mikey shows up at her door after leaving college saying he needs to stay with her because his Dad won't have him. This sets up his book which is after the next one in the series.

Rob and Casey give Colleen a job and an apartment over the garage to live in. Casey has a miscarriage and Colleen takes care of her. Then Casey decides to buy some sheep and go into the wool business, but doesn't know anything about it and needs Colleen's business degree to help her get started. Plus there's Harley. He's an attorney turned farmer and she can't help herself around him.

I love this series and this group of characters. I will be sad to see the series end. It's heartwarming and realistic with relatable characters. No one is perfect, everyone is human and flawed, but loveable and endearing.

This was cute. I really liked reading about Mikey and Paige's (Face the Music, Beyond Jackson Falls 1) background, but I also liked the main couple's (the heroine, Colleen, is Mikey's mother) story.

Another great story in the Jackson Falls series.

So happy to get incite into Colleen, Casey's younger sister and her not so easy life. She quickly became one of my favorite characters in this series. It takes until almost the end of the book to find out what her true story is. When she has her heart to heart with her son you really feel the pain she has experienced in her life. You got a glimpse into Colleen's maternal instincts when she helped Annabel with her problem so perfectly, Thank heavens for Harley coming into her life to ground her. Harley was so sweet, who wouldn't love a dog rescuing, single farmer dad who used to be a lawyer who builds you your own romantic ice rink... NO ONE!!

My favorite scene in this book was when Rob tricked both Casey and Colleen to sing together. He knew just what these estranged sisters needed to open their hearts again to each other. They needed each other in the past and would always be there for each other now. Bonus song >> Love Shack!!!

This story does not have all the tears and anger the first book made you feel but the love was there for sure. What made me happy was the amount of time we spent catching up with Casey and Rob who I just adore and all the other characters of Jackson Falls. Mikey and Paige and their young love was very sweet and naïve at the same time and you worry that they will make some of the same mistakes others have made close to them.

Again another great read by Laurie Breton. She never disappoints. I am always hoping for more and wonder who will we read about next, although I can never get enough of Rob and Casey.

Possibly my favourite in this series so far, possibly because I really loved the Mikey and Paige storyline. I really liked Jesse's story so I guess like father like son. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the continuation of what happens to Paige and Mikey.

One of the things I have loved with this series is the music reference. I grew up on all kinds of music and don't recall at time when music wasn't a big part of my day, I particularly loved the references to all things 80's and the differences between the adults and the teenagers in their tastes.

These books are a steal at only $0.99 through Amazon.

This series is turning into a guilty pleasure for me. I enjoyed Colleen's redemption story but frankly could have lived without the chapters from Casey's POV. She is so perfect - maternal, musical, beautiful, loving, etc. - that I wonder if she will be canonized by the end of the series. I find the secondary characters much more interesting. I hope Breton doesn't drag out Paige and Mikey's story for too long - she runs the risk of falling into the Susan Wiggs/Daisy Bellamy trap, where she built up the tension for so long that by the time we got her story it was a disappointment.

Redemption Road by Laurie Breton must have one of the most unique moments for the two romantic leads to meet. I really liked the development of the characters, especially Colleen, who is much deeper than she seems. Once I started reading, Breton had me hooked. I finished the book as quickly as I could, and I plan to look for more from the Jackson Falls series. Definitely worth the read...I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway in return for an honest review.

While this is technically Colleen's book, I still got plenty of CaseyandRob time. Loved Harley!! I am holding out hope that this isn't the last of this series. Since the author started out back in time, and this book was still behind us, I am HOPING that means that we will get another book -- maybe featuring Mikey and Paige? A girl can hope right??

Meanwhile I am in that odd limbo one gets into when finishing up with a great series of books. I miss these characters already.

I love this series, it paces really well and you get really invested in the characters, my favourites will always be Casey and the rather wonderful and lovely Rob. (my fave), so happy they are still an integral part of the stories. so glad that colleen got to have her own. Harley was perfect for her, I've noticed only today that they'll be another book, I'm guessing it's about Mickey and Paige, hope so, looking forward to it.

OK, plodding through this series because clearly I've committed to it. Still a bit of rehashing, and even more revisionist history

All these people do is snort. Snort, snort, snort. And they are, of course, still speaking softly. Argh. And I knew in about 5 minutes what was going to happen to a couple of the main characters.

Off to the next and final installment in this series.

When I discovered Laurie's books last year I thoroughly enjoyed the roller coaster story of Casey, Danney and Rob. This is a wonderful story, principally about Colleen; Casey's sister but you still get lots of Casey, Rob and the rest of the clan. I do hope she writes another instalment with the wonderful characters who almost become real people. This is a book worthy of 5*

It's always great to be back to Jackson Falls, though Redemption Road is book for Colleen story, Casey sister, we still got to see glimpses of one of my favorite couples, Casey and Rob Mackenzie life. And there's some part about Mikey and Paige story too. All in all it's a good book while there's some boring spot.

A short book, a quick read and a continuation of the series. I like to occasionally immerse myself in a series that I can forget about my life, my problems and my everyday happenings. I am doing that at great speed with this series. I am enjoying the times at Jackson Falls... and am on to Book 5!

I love this series, and this one was no exception. Although it predominantly about Colleen, it actually tells several interwoven stories. It was great to learn about Colleen's life. I always wondered about her. Cant wait for even MORE Casey and Rob...and Paige and Mikey

Another great book in the Jackson Fall series. I loved reading Colleen story,I was very surprised and very happy to see more of Rob and Casey. I expected to see some glimpse, like in sleeping with the enemy, not to see their pov on the story. I hope the next book about Paige and Mickey

I was soooo looking forward to more Casey and Rob. And I got it! And a whole lot more. More lovable, deep, achingly beautiful characters. I can only hope there will be more in this series from Laurie.

This book is impossible to put down. I couldn't stop log enough to charge my Kindle: I had to read with it plugged in. Laurie keeps the characters fresh at every turn of the page. I am so looking forward to her next book.

liked the set up for a spin off series, one I would whole heartedly read. Wish there had been more depth to Colleen/Harley-Colleen/The sister and mother. Still a good satisfying read. Cannot wait to read The Miles Between Us.
