Not so much a book you read but one you keep on the shelf and study from. Although the Roland VG-8 might render the topic more to history than to practice, this book puts Joni Mitchell's tunings into a clear a format as the complex topic can be. Besides a tuning index for each song, the sheet music includes notation and tab, even for songs originally recorded on piano, such as "One Week Last Summer."
Mitchell's influence on other songwriters--such as David Crosby, who credits her with much of the success of his prolific Act III--promises to be of use to new songwriters who might not be able to invest in too much electronic hardware like the Roland VG-8.
