I bought this book for my 5 year old son because another kid was pushing him at school, like in this book. The book teaches children to stand up for themselves and to seek help when they are being bullied.

Bye-Bye Bully is a picture book by Stacy C Bauer, and illustrated by Eduardo Paj. The book begins with some kid playing soccer at recess, but Lenny is a bit mean, and pushes one of the other kids. The other kids start noticing that Lenny is being a bit of a bully nowadays.
This is a story a lot of people can probably relate to; someone they know being physically or mentally abusive to them. Personally, I want to like this book, but I feel like it falls flat, in my opinion. So Lenny is being abusive to these other students and Wyatt tells his parents, and the teacher. So Wyatt’s parents send him and his friends to martial arts, who teaches these kids stuff like deep breathing, how to be a peacemaker and how to focus on positive thoughts. However… This isn’t necessarily a great “solution” for the readers because not everyone can afford these martial arts lessons. Also, the book isn’t really teaching those things to the readers; it shows several instances of them, but doesn’t actually teach the techniques to the readers (especially not the breathing stuff). While yes, it does show the whole “I am KIND” and “I am STRONG” stuff, it doesn’t explain it well enough, in my opinion. So how is saying “I am STRONG” to a bully meant to help me in any way…? Or is the book just trying to get me to sign up to martial arts lessons? And for the “peacemaker” thing as well; it’s not telling the readers how to be a peacemaker, but it is implying that you need to be one, in order to deal with bullies.
And, also, even though the characters have learnt these things… this obviously isn’t really helping their situation because Lenny is still acting out, and being abusive. A lot of the ways they’re trying to help themselves just isn’t working, even telling parents or a teacher hasn’t worked for them. At multiple instances during the book, they ask Lenny to play with them, and he’s mean to them. Then, at the end of the book, they ask him to play with them and he’s magically nice to them all of a sudden? I think the book needed a lot better planning and explanation to a lot of these things. Much of the problem solving methods the kids were using were simply not working, and the only “solution” ended up being something that they had already asked him to do multiple times and failed at. While yes, this last one was after they’d seen Lenny get bothered by his brother, that’s not a good enough reason for the sudden change, in my opinion. Considering he had likely been bothered by his brother in prior events, so why would his behaviour suddenly improve now, after this scene? I was simply not impressed by the writing of this book.
The illustrations, however, are very impressive. There’s so many really great scenes where we can visualise the stuff going on. The artist has put in some immense amounts of detail in a variety of the images, like and image at the end where Lenny and Wyatt are walking along; there’s a wonderful grass texture. There’s good visual emotional imagery, so it’s easy to see what types of emotions the characters are feeling. And I think the artist has done really well with the character design in general.
Overall, I think the planning out of the events needs improvements. I would have liked to see character behaviours, especially Lenny’s behaviour, to be better explained. And I would have liked to see a lot of their “solutions” to be more useful. I felt like it was useless to bring up this martial arts thing because the author didn’t properly explain these methods to the readers. Because, as it is, it’s a pretty miserable book, and it’s clear that their solutions aren’t working for 99% of it, until the random change in Lenny’s behaviour. The best bit about the book is the illustration work.

The newest book in the Cami Kangaroo and Wyatt Too series find Wyatt Kangaroo dealing with bullying behavior by Lenny Lion. Wyatt has to navigate the disorientation of his friend treating him badly. Then he deals with the frustration of telling adults only to be subjected to even worse treatment. And finally Wyatt and his friends learn to stand up for themselves. Eventually they see that Lenny is being bullied by his big brother and the group helps him. In the end, all become friends again.
Any child who has faced a bully is going to identify with this book. I love how we get to experience all the emotions with Wyatt and get to self-empowerment in the end with him. We even get a glimpse at the motivation behind the bullying. Hurt people, hurt others.
This would be a great book for SEL lessons. It would also be a wonderful conversation starter for any child currently experiencing bullying to let them know they aren't alone and that this is hope for the bullying to stop.

They Persisted!
There's a lot of wisdom in this book. Bullying is not an easy-to-solve problem and it takes a multi-faceted approach to address it. I love that the kids spoke up to parents and teachers even though they weren't sure it would help. And the martial arts class is a great addition to the book, marking the shift from powerlessness to finding solutions. Get this book for the 5-8-year-old you know who is struggling with bullying and read it together. Highly recommended.

Great story about how to deal with a bully at a young age.
I liked how this author handles this subject! The young characters understand it is helpful to tell an adult about being bullied. They also learn tools to empower themselves in that situation. Cute illustrations and a happy ending is always a plus! Enjoyed this one!

Bye-Bye Bully is a well written picture book by Stacy Bauer with adorable/child friendly illustrations. Wyatt and his friends learn a very important message about using your words, believing in yourself, and caring for others. This is a powerful children’s book that can lead to great discussion questions. I highly recommend Bye-Bye Bully for elementary teachers and parents. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Great Story on How To Handle Bullies Calmly
This is a really good book about the challenges of dealing with a bully with a great solution on how to handle one’s emotions as well as stand up to a bully. It also shows why the bully behaves in a negative manner and how you can help them. Great illustrations too!

See how Wyatt the kangaroo handles being bullied by his own friend Lenny the lion in this beautifully illustrated book. Many kiddos will identify with this story as bullying continues to be a problem. This book displays a healthy way to handle bullying. Good read for all ages.

love it!
This is a great bullying book I can use at school. It shows many ways someone can bully, then goes through the feelings of the kids being bullied, as well as solutions. It then gets to the ‘why’ the person is bullying. Nicely done!

Beautiful book!
Lei-Lei loved this book. She even learned that it’s not ok to be mean to adults when she is mad either. She can calmly explain why she’s mad.

This book does an excellent job giving readers examples of how to handle a bully. The illustrations are excellent and they sorry is very well written.
