When seventeen-year-old Flo Kennedy is forced to up sticks and trade her life in London for a sleepy seaside town on the south coast, she’s anything but excited. Walden-on-Sea could win awards for being Britain’s dullest town, and with a population consisting almost entirely of over sixties, teenagers are an endangered species.
Silently struggling with her parents’ death and separation from her sister, Flo’s convinced she’s in for the worst summer of her life.
But when she meets the guy in the ice cream shop, things start to change. It’s not long before she lands herself a job, a new set of friends and maybe even the beginnings of first romance. For the first time in several years, she’s happy. But Flo knows all too well that things can’t stay perfect forever, and after all, being on top of the world only gives you further to fall.
A really cute story about summer love. I loved the relationship between Flo and Daniel, Flo and the rest of her friends, and especially Flo and Nora. The only thing I can really complain about is the fact that it all felt kind of rushed. Like, I wish there were more scenes where we got to see a little more of the rest of the characters, but above all, it was well written and had a cute plot.
It was difficult to land on a rating for this book. If you’re into fluff, then it would definitely be 5 stars. It was written really well and I liked the storyline, but for me personally I felt there weren’t enough twists, drama or excitement for the majority of the book except for the final chapters. It was a great book, but it wasn’t really for me.
3.5/5 stars Ahhh! It was so cute, I loved it! It's not exactly the most exciting book I've ever read, but it did fill me up with some very exciting emotions... THE FEELS!
I loved everything about this book! The writing, the characters, the romance, the relationships... GAHH! Leigh describes everything so clearly and it's perfect and I feel like almost everyone can connect to the main characters.
This book has a lot of feelings. You laugh, you cry, and you almost want to yell at a character during some parts. It's a really good coming-of-age book for people who love contemporary romance.
So why only 4 stars? Because it's a four-star book. As much as I love it, it's a bit unoriginal but I think Leigh does it in a way that is almost memorable.
