After entering in this giveaway on Goodreads with all fingers crossed that I would win, I was extremely pleased and grateful to find out I actually did win. Being the second in the series, it took a while to fit The Diving Path into my reading schedule. I am so glad I finally came across time to read it.

I love the concept of this novel. There are so many elements that are not found in other similar genres. The ‘divine power’ is something that is completely different than other books that include magical powers. The divine is unique in the delivery and the lack of control, which in turn makes the book wildly interesting.

The characters are probably the main reason my love for this book runs so deep because they change and grown in front of your eyes. Johnston perfectly develops his characters. Their interactions were authentic. I felt so much compassion for Kade and Darcienna. Kade is described by his father as the lesser of two evils, not something that is all too flattering. But that is exactly what is demonstrated throughout the book. He tries his hardest to be a good person, but at times is overtaken by power. We see Darcienna grounding this personality trait, making her an even more loved character.

The amount of action in The Divine Path tripled from the first, which is saying a lot since the book is based off action scenes. In this case, the action may have been too much is Johnston had not written it to flow the way he did. Every scene was vital to the entire story and it was clear that each fact given was to be useful in the future.

Overall, I loved this book. The suspense mixed with the uncertainty really added to the plot of the novel making it a great read for those who like action and young adult, fantasy novels.

I stayed up late to finish this book last night. I just couldn’t put it down and go to sleep not knowing how it ended. The climax at the end of this second book was even more engaging then the end of the first one.

Mr. Johnston picks up this second book right where he left off with the first. The early part of this book spends some time reconnecting Kade with his parents and slowly introducing them to what he has learned. I enjoyed learning more about the relationship between Kade and Darcienna. I love how they are sometimes playful but when they become faced with danger they really work together as a team. They are a great duo for this story.

The central part of this book has Kade meeting an unlikely group of allies that at first are set to do battle with Kade and his travel companions. What I found most interesting was the level on which Kade was able to connect with the leaders of this new group, particularly the female leader of the group. After fighting a fierce battle together against a common enemy, the group really comes to respect and admire Kade. For me this seemed like the first time that Kade began to see himself as more than just an “Apprentice” Chosen. Kade shows excellent skills in not only mastering the Divine but connecting with creatures from many walks of life and emerging as a leader to be respected and revered.

With this new relationship solidified, Kade sets out to continue his quest to find the Master Chosen to help in his fight against Morg. The climax of this book again came at the end with a wonderfully, creatively written battle that you just have to keep reading until you finish. The battle gets your heart pounding as you wait to read the outcome. The end of the battle…not what I was expecting to happen! I was so glad I stayed up to read it but it definitely left me wanting the next book ASAP.

It was after discovering, reading and thoroughly enjoying The Divine Apprentice (The Divine Series Book 1), I hastily snapped up the following novel in Allen J Johnston's The Divine Series Books and was not disappointed in the slightest. We follow our hero Kade in his further magical and engrossing adventures, guided by the spirit of his dead master in this epic story of fantasy and emotional development.

The author Allen J Johnston has a wonderful skill of drawing you in to the novel, bringing a sense of mystical realism to the characters, their relationships and the various sub-plots that leave you on the edge of the seat from start to finish. The sense of suspense throughout is matched with a beautiful sense of empathy and mystery in the characters, especially Kade and his relationship with Darcienna, which makes this a truly great novel and a fitting sequel to The Divine Apprentice (Book 1).

I barely put this book down, another fantastic novel by the author... and I cant wait to follow Kade in The Divine Unleashed The Divine Series Book 3)

This is the second book in the series and continues where the first one left off.

Both Kade and Darcienna grow and mature throughout the story. I felt real compassion for Kade when he visits his family and his father describes him "the lesser of two evils." Kade is a good persone but when he feels the power of the Divine, he almost becomes like his enemy, Morg.

The story flows well and the action and suspense kept me riveted as each scene unfolded., making me turn each page to see what happened next. This books is more action-packed than the first and we learn more of the Divine Power. I really enjoyed the book and can't wait for the next installment.

I won this book in a goodreads giveaway.

Like the first book in the series, this is just as addictive. Characters grow further and you get to understand better about each individual and the story plot. Once again, this is a must read book.
