I've been a beta reader a couple of times now and I really enjoy that. Being able to read a book before it's out and giving honest feedback to help an author is great. This time it was for Sam West who wrote her first book in the DI Keva O'Connor book series. And it's out today!

This was a book I thoroughly enjoyed. A child goes missing and her mother Keva, being a detective, knows how the investigation goes. Except, she is not allowed to do anything of course - it's her daughter that's missing. The past is coming back to her, following her and it eventually leads to an epic conclusion, one that keeps you glued to the pages.

You get to know the characters quite well, especially how they act in a difficult situation. That's when you really get to know people and the authors managed to convey this to the pages very well. The story is well written with some twists and turns that make you want to keep reading. You just need to know what happened and why. That's a big plus from the author - she is very capable of making sure the reader can't put the book away.

Absolutely a recommendation!

I cannot believe this is Sam West's first published book. I, quite naively, assumed she'd been writing and publishing for a long time.
It's beautifully written - no kidding! - the story is highly compelling and Sam's style offers a distinctive prose that creates a fast-paced reading experience. Mind you, fast pacing isn't necessarily a good thing to me; I know this goes against the grain as most modern books have much faster pacing than other works which were written years ago, but I personally believe it has to be done for a reason, and within No Trace there is a very good balance in every chapter.
I'm not even usually a fan of novels that have endings open for sequels, though I'd consider Sam's novel a happy exception. She has me hooked from page one and once I'm hooked, my inquiring mind wants to know. I need to know 'what happened in London'...
I can't wait to read Book 2.

This book was one of the first I'd read as a beta reader - and, uh-oh - it's set my standards for crime so high!

While this story contains one of my worst fears, I couldn't put it down. Sam's writing, even in those beta stages, well-polished and a breeze to read.

The story is fantastic and I truly felt as though I'd been sucked right into a TV crime mini-series. The pacing was amazing, the characters were relatable and there was the perfect amount of mystery and several suspects to keep me guessing until the very end!
