Set against the backdrop of the temporary phenomenon of general lockdown, Perumal Murugan's novel deals with some of the permanent problems of human life. There are two journeys in the novel. One is a road trip and another is the inner journey through life. Both travel in parallel lines influencing each other in the narrative. The novel examines the values of love against the backdrop of the inevitable nature of real life. The novel takes a closer look at the nature of love, its transformations and the pains it causes in the context of various elements that try to penetrate the natural attraction between a man and a woman. It signifies the strength of love that cannot be controlled by social values and customs. The novel unfolds from the perspective of the youth of today's generation and appropriately accommodates the views of the generations of yesteryear.

With every next page, with every next book, perumal murugan just keeps me getting intrigued more and more and makes me want to read more of his works. This is my 9th book of his and I have ordered the 10th book as I am writing this review.

Story revolves around the values of love against inevitable nature of real life. Storyline was set to happen during Covid Lockdown.
Murugasu and his view about life, Love. Reality of escaping the suppression by his father and mother's care. Loved the way Perumal Murugan described it. Exploration of Murugasu during the Ride back in search of His mother. The backdrop of Society's pressure of intercaste love. The pain caused by the same.
Love doesnt have Age. The way this Novel Ended was pretty heavy. But giving out a happy ending for Murugasu's mother.
This Novels tells about the Nature of Love, The Pain Caused because of the social issue within our society.
Unfolds the perspective of the youth of today's generation and appropriately accommodates the views of the previous generations.

A beautiful love story intertwined with a pandemic storyline. Perumal Murugan’s prose feels like a warm embrace as usual. I read this one after finishing a rather bleak novel, and it was so refreshing to read the beginning chapters that I didn‘t want to put the book down. I am usually against love stories that glorify not moving on, but here somehow it did not seem grating because of the nature of the parting. I did not care much for the pandemic storyline, and would have content for this story to focus exclusively on the mother, but I understand that the structure adds mystery to her disappearance. Once again, I love how Perumal Murugan‘s novels focus on how the rigidity of our societal norms often denude people of their compassion and humanity. Despite the basic human need for belonging, the characters in his novels find happiness only when they escape the confines of society. It is also this desperate need for belonging that forces some characters to commit extreme deeds.
I wanted to write a longer piece in Tamil, but it’s been over a month since I finished the novel and I have read 3 other books since, so the points I wanted to convey are lost to time :) :/
The author's introduction provides great insight into this novel and the principles behind his work in general - highly recommend reading it after the novel.

பெருமாள் முருகனை நம்பினோர் கைவிடப்படார்!
இன்னுமொரு அழகிய நாவல். ஆரம்பத்திலிருந்தே நம்மை அவர் உருவாக்கும் உலகில் ஈர்க்கிறார். அவர் எழுத்தில் எப்போதும் இருக்கும் எளிமை இங்கும் பெருமளவில் இயங்குகிறது.
இந்த நாவலிலும் மீண்டும் அசுர உலகத்தை கையாள்கிறார், பெருமாள் முருகன். ஒவ்வொரு நாவலாக இந்த உலகத்தின் பின்னணி விரிவதில் எனக்கு பெருமகிழ்ச்சி. MCU, LCU என்ற வரிசையில் PMU என இவரது அசுர உலகும் பிரபலமாக வேண்டும்.
நாவலின் முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரமாக இருப்பது இளம் வயது அசுரனாகிய முருகாசு என்றாலும், நம் மனதில் பதிவது அவன் தாய் மற்றும் தந்தையின் கதையே. அவர்கள் தான் இந்த நாவலின் உயிர் என்றே சொல்லலாம். அம்மா காணாமல் போனதை வைத்து ஒரு suspense நாவலாகவே படைத்திருக்கிறார். அதனால் கதை அவரை விட்டு வேறு இடங்களுக்கு நகரும் பொழுது கொஞ்சம் பொறுமை இழக்க வைக்கிறது. இந்த பகுதிகள் நாவலுக்கு கூடுதல் வண்ணம் தந்தாலும், மனம் அவர்களின் கதைக்கு போகவே காத்திருக்கிறது.
பல்வேறு காதல் கதைகளை இதில் இணைத்தது சிறப்பு. ஒவ்வொரு கதையும் காதலை பற்றியும் மனித இயல்பை பற்றியும் ஏதோ ஒன்றை சொல்கிறது.
மேலும் இவரின் நாவல்களை படிக்கும் ஆவலை இந்த நாவல் கூட்டியிருக்கிறது என்றே சொல்ல வேண்டும்.

ஒரே அமர்வில் படிக்க ஒரு புத்தகத்தை நம்பி எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்றால் அது பெருமாள் முருகனுடையதாகவே இருக்கும். பெங்களூர் டேஸ் திரைப்படத்தில் வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேறி மகிழ்ச்சியாயிருப்பார் தந்தை. அவர் சென்ற வருத்தமில்லாது நகரம், வெளிநாடு என்று பயணிப்பார் தாய். அப்படி ஒன்றை எதிர்பார்திருந்தேன். மங்கா-மதுரன் வாழ்வோடு முடித்திருக்கலாம். கற்பனை ஊர்களையும் சாதியையும் எழுத்தாளர் பயன்படுத்தியிருப்பது புதிதாக படிப்பவர்களுக்கு நகைச்சுவையாகவும் எல்லாம் தெரிந்தவர்களுக்கு அவலமாகவும் இருக்கும்

Really loving his style or the way he integrates his ideological/philosophical themes with the story without too much explanation.
In நெடுநேரம்,there is a touch of Inter-caste relationship & its repercussions in our society ,especially women, for choosing a partner of their choice.
Balances both the need for choice and sacrifices due to societal constraints.
It is narrated through an adventure type- unraveling style which felt unique.
