Years ago, an investigative news show uncovered a secret bunker in the Blue Ridge Mountains, built for the President and the Cabinet in the event of a nuclear attack. With its cover now blown, the government auctioned off the property. Its new owner, Danny Reynolds, knew this would be the coolest place for his illegal, underground poker games and what would become the East Coast's richest, literally underground, poker tournament. But someone else has decided he wants to own it, and he'll stop at nothing until he does.
Like so many other successful people in Central and Western Virginia, Danny spends a few days each week during the warmer months relaxing on the shores of the Chesapeake. He keeps his boat in a marina over near the quiet little town of Mathews. But the tranquility that Danny enjoys there is about to be shattered. Small town corruption is about to hit a brick wall, and that wall's name is Danny.
Hi! Glad you took the time to read about me, though my Coastal Adventure Series is really much more interesting. But hey, click my "Follow" button and see what kind of trouble I get into. It beats reading the newspaper! (I try to stay out of those these days...)
I was born in Palm Beach County, Florida, and escaped in Y2K, 40 years and 1.1 million new neighbors later. I hate crowds, and by then the lines at the boat ramps on the weekends were hell... Anyway, in my early twenties I crewed on sportfishing boats. I started flying when I was old enough to see over the instrument panel and got my license at 16. I've logged time in over two dozen types of aircraft. I got my start as a real estate investor in my latter 20's. I've owned retail stores and was even a small-town mayor once. Why? I'm still asking myself that question now, several decades later.
When I moved to Virginia, I fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore (VA & MD), as well as the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and that's why my books are set in this area. I write books because it's fun. I create characters that I enjoy 'spending time with' because I write every day.
You're still here? If I haven't put you to sleep or chased you away by now, please feel free to click the button next to the "Follow" one and send me a "Friend" request. Like Belushi said about grabbing a beer in the opening scene of Animal House: "Don't cost nuthin'!"
Don Rich has put together one of the best reads I have ever read. Full of suspense, divergent twists, and ugly villains that get their due in the end.... but you will wonder if Danny can overcome all of that.... hang in there, it is a 10 star book in my opinion.
I loved this book. I read the prequel and I just knew Don had another home run here. I'm beginning to want to see that slice of the East Coast.
The characters here are believable and I just live Danny, the main guy..has manners, is tough, smart and I hope he'll stay with Brandy...this book has love, romance, illegal businesses, Russian bad guys, a peek into politics. a what more can you ask for?
Good job Don..btw, I've read ALL of Don's books and not one single disappointment. You should try them.
I knew when I read the prequel, Mobjack Creek, that this was going to be another barn burner of a page turner series. Mobjack Gamble is the first book in a couple of years that kept me riveted to my seat and held my interest from cover to cover.
As with his cast of characters in his "Coastal" series, Rich (the author) has created another fine crew of likable, relatable core characters.
When I first encountered this author, I knew I would be left waiting in anticipation for his next offering. However, I had no idea that my virtual bookshelf would eventually have a shelf set aside for his books. My only disappointment is that, as I have read everything he has published, I will have to wait until he publishes another.
With the start of Mobjack Mystery I now follow three series written by Don Rich. All three can stand alone or find itself in another series. I love it!
Really enjoyed this, the writing is along the line of the "Coastal Series ". The story line was great, kept you interested ! Hopefully he will continue with this series !
Chesapeake Bay Family large project plans foiled by new Pub Partner
MOBJACK GAMBLE is Book one from Don Rich in the new MOBJACK Mystery & Adventure Series. But, it is not the FIRST BOOK ! A prequel, MOBJACK Creek was issued several months ago in limited distribution. Now, that book is offered from the Author as part of the series premiere. The locations are Western Shore Chesapeake Bay near Mathews, Virginia and Crozet, Virginia which is west of Charlottesville.
Recommended - the prequel read first to get full overview of the characters and the series. But, not necessary as Rich revisits the basics in Mobjack Gamble where he opens in the Prologue with a mystery. The local Sheriff, “Tiny” Clifford has been called by his Marine Deputy who located, Billy Clifford, floating deceased (Sheriff’s) family member. Sheriff and his family have great control of the area, owning much of the County and are engaged in endeavors one would consider not quite on the right side of legal. Foul play suspected with Billy’s lifestyle as meth dealer potentially indicates not an accident.
Danny Reynolds, an enterprising and successful businessman owns Pub and Winery in Crozet. Additionally, he has a Moonshine Still and Conducts a Gambling Club Operation. He and the local Sheriff went to school and grew up together so there is protection and warning. Danny goes to Mobjack Creek Marina to purchase Sabre 36 Express boat. While there he meets his next door houseboat neighbor, Brandy McDonald, the Bartender whom works for Cam the Owner of the Rivah Grill & Bar at the Marina. The Clifford family is trying to take over the Restaurant so Danny heads off the takeover by becoming half owner of Rivah.
Thus begins an adventure full of twist, turns and excitement as Danny and the Clifford Family become entangled in business ventures the Clifford’s want no one else involved. Danny’s purchase cancels a large project from which the Clifford’s expected to make a lot of money. Additionally Sheriff Tiny Clifford is looking for a way to charge Danny with Billy Clifford’s demise. Don Rich has put together a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat and if you are like me the book will not leave your hands until the last sentence is read! Recommended- Five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Star Thank you for looking at the REVIEW that I hope you find Informative, Interesting, Useful and HELPFUL! 😃
Don Rich has a way of planting seeds of seemingly innocuous thoughts and items into a love story and then smacking you in the face with a suspense filled ride at the end. It keeps you turning page after page to uncover what happens next and to find out who lives and who dies. Characters are often being transported by Jeep, boat, and train, and Rich has you strapped in right beside them. Enjoy the ride.
Hopefully, you have read Mobjack Creek. It is short, it is free and it is a very interesting way to introduce the reader t the main characters. Danny Reynolds is a moonshiner. He has the best in the state because he uses the best ingredients. He has branched out to owning a gambling house that sometimes hold high stake games. Vetting to become a member is very strict and anyone caught cheating is removed. To get away from the craziness he buys a houseboat, cheap. Cheap because the marina is about to be taken over for condominiums, and not in a gentlemanly way. Danny decides he needs to help them out. Meanwhile, some Russians are trying to move in on his gambling house. If you are a fan of the Coastal series, you will definitely like this series. There is even a cameo appearance of Coastal's most colorful characters.
After reading the prequel I had to read this book and I was not disappointed. The details in the description of the landscape make you want to visit. The characters are well thought out and are excellent. The pace of the story is good and I didn’t want to stop reading. I have read all of this authors books and can say he is one of my favorites. Thanks Don for your contribution to the readers of the world.
Great Story , l have read many of Don Rich’s books and this is another great one. He always seems to surprise me with his plot twist and turns. Can’t wait for more adventures with Danny & Brandy !
Wow what a story from the series author I really like lots of action and I mean action set up with bad guys everywhere. Glad I started this new series getting out of the Keys but never ending action ciao from Bobbie and I from Costa rica....
An extremely fast read that will make you hang from a tree limb over a deep rocky ravine, waiting for the next exciting story to arrive about Brandy and Danny’s exploits! Mike R. Beche aka Aquamanmike
So many words to describe nothing. About halfway the story gets very interesting. As the first book, I understand why the author needs to set the stage but I still think that he went overboard. Overall I liked the book.
