As a prepper, Grayson Rowan was prepared for almost anything.
…anything other than being totally alone when the shinola hits the fan.
While he sat back and watched the United States rattle swords with Korea, play chicken with Russia, and strong-arm China, he felt sure if the lights went out, that he and his family would be ready and safe—whether it was due to a natural disaster or a man-made event. They had everything they needed at their homestead.
What he wasn’t prepared for, was his family not being home if it ever happened.
Olivia Rowan is with her sisters, Gabby and Emma, on a girls-only trip to Myrtle Beach. When chaos erupts and there’s no gas, their journey home is a nightmare, filled with predators and danger—and apparently, Olivia hadn’t learned a thing her husband tried to teach her.
When your neighbors run out of water and turn on each other, what will you do?
Jake, a country boy mechanic, never believed in TEOTWAWKI, but he’d heard his brother-in-law preach about it many times. He knew what to do; but he didn’t prepare. He lazily left it all up to Grayson—he was the prepper after all. When catastrophe strikes, will he continue to keep his head stuck in the sand while his clueless neighbors destroy each other, and his wife is stuck out on the road; or will he stand up and fight like a man?
And if you’re alone? Bug in or Bug out?
Graysie Rowan, a freshman at University, just wants to go home. When no word comes from the government, and the state capital is overrun with looters, chaos and mayhem, the college administration puts the students on lock-down. But her dad, Grayson, had prepared her for this. Now, if she can only remember what it was he said to do…
If they want to survive this post-apocalyptic event, they’ll all have to learn to fight like a man.
The end came not with boots on the ground, nuclear weapons or an EMP. It snuck in with a quiet clatter at the back door and flipped the switch, covering the states in darkness and sending this family on three divergent paths that ultimately lead home. When they collide in this surreal and gripping family drama, it won’t be without bullets and bloodshed.
[Audiobook review] This was an enjoyable series, I love this narrator so it was a pleasant listen. It was not clear to me if this series was complete or not, to be honest, I felt like it was incomplete at the end. The story follows a large cast, with various sub stories taking place. With any large cast, there is a wide array of different characters and although sometimes confusing, it also keeps the pace running. There are many multifaceted characters, some not that likeable and certainly making the story realistic. I liked that there were so many people with different views and opinions, even when some were irritating, I was somewhat surprised at the subtle, negative undertone towards women from a female author and although I wasn't particularly in love with any of the characters, overall, it is a good listen.
Triggers: substance abuse, violence against women and dogs.
So there have been several comments here about things that occurred in the series others found distasteful. It's an apocalyptic novel folks, not s Harlequin romance. Bad things will happen if events like these ever actually occurs. If you can't even read about it, we'll, that says a lot about how you would handle a real life, in your face, event.
The author did an excellent job relying a mental picture throughout the book with taking too much time away from the characters. It flowed very well from start to finish.
Very well done. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work!
I couldn't finish it. Killing peoples pets was too much
I know its the apocalypse and people die, horribly. But I'm not going to read books where peoples pets are tortured and killed. That's not entertainment to me. It goes too far especially when its so graphic. I won't be reading anymore of this authors books. There should be a trigger warning for this. I know I'm not the only person who doesn't want to read about that kind of senseless torture of pets we love.
I’m only in the beginning and already rolling my eyes. The author talks about the penny test in the freezer. Supposedly the power has been out all night (we don’t know what time he went to bed though), and apparently the cup of water had defrosted completely and the penny is at the bottom — if your freezer defrosts this quickly that’s a huge issue. We have had several long power outages and it takes 4-7 days for our inside freezer to start to defrost so already I’m not sure if I want to finish the book. Does the author not know this?? She doesn’t mention how big the inside freezer is either, our chest freezer also remains frozen for up to 2 weeks — provided I’ve got large frozen bottles in the freezer which assists in keeping the items in it frozen. I’ve never had my cup of ice defrost enough for my coin to be at the bottom.
The narrator is one of my favourites though, highly recommend anything he narrates.
I hated some of the main characters. Like hoping the next awful moment would swallow them up. I thought it would be a nice change from the books where everyone is already crazy prepared…I think I like the crazy prepared people better. I gave it five stars since the characters I didn’t like were mostly disliked by the other characters. The plot is good, it’s a wonder any of them survived. There were good plot twists and surprises.
1 -4 post apocalyptic thriller. When I was done reading book 4 I felt like I was one of the communal family and wanted book 5. But the first 3 books in this series, I read all at once and couldn't put down ans sleep until a pause at the end of book 3. What a fabulous story. Different than a lot of other emps I have read. Nice change. I recommend this series highly!
unique style of story...Blending more in-depth processes with a great story
I was unsure of the writing style of these books at first. However once I realized that it was educating me on all things prepping I was pleasantly surprised. The author is on to something with this merging of entertainment and education. I look forward to more books in the future.
Started well enough but began to notice some bigotry and toxic masculinity. I guess the author was playing to a particular audience. The ending ( book 4) seemed to be totally out of place and very unbelievable.
Loved everything about this book!! Great read. This was my first of this type of book and it made me fall in love with the characters. You'll laugh, cry and get mad.... But trust me, this series is 100% definitely worth the read.
Loved it. I can't wait to continue the story in whatever comes next. These books feel so real in comparison to other apocalyptic series. Human characters, not near god-like beings that can do no wrong.
Could not add better characters, unexpected plot twists and useful prepping advice! Well done all the way. Coming from something who has easily read tens and possibly a hundred or more apocolyptic novels.
I liked the characters and their devotion to each other. I also liked that this story took one step further than any of the other post-apocalyptic stories I've read by delving into a nuclear attack.
Well plotted and a good fast moving narrative. Irritating because of the innumerable spelling and grammar errors. Sadly tarnished for lack of a final polish.
