This is an almost lyrical account of love at first sight blossoming into an enduring love that lasts a lifetime. It is short and sweet, even vague in the details, but it sparks a hope and a fascination of what that all-enduring connection might look like. I found it entrancing and uplifting.
I really enjoyed the way that this one started. The words and the images it evoked were powerful and pulled me right into Emma and Ethan's world and feelings.
Beneath the Moonlit Sky by Vicky Peplow is a short story delineating the courtship between two strangers, Emma and Ethan. During their first meeting, the two literally bump into one another. Emma is on her way to the tiny bookstore she owns. A true bibliophile and someone dedicated to her career, she carries a stack of books. When these are dislodged, Ethan helps her gather her things. They share a moment during which they both realize this chance encounter could lead to something more, something special. I liked the author’s description of Emma. “Her quirky sense of style, a mix of vintage dresses and mismatched socks, complemented her vibrant personality perfectly.” She sounds like someone I’d enjoy meeting. Both main characters, Emma and Ethan, share a playfulness which I love in characters. The relationship builds, and during Emma’s struggles, her best friend, Sarah, supports her. Sarah urges Emma to not let her fears keep her from getting to know Ethan better. She convinces Emma to take a chance on the relationship and the possibility of a forever yours union. With her friend’s help, Emma believes such a thing is worth seeking and putting oneself in a position of vulnerability. The novel proceeds with descriptive snapshots of the key moments in the couple’s relationship, culminating in an obvious ending. That would be my only complaint. There isn’t much in the way of conflict or tension, and any difficulties are quickly surmounted. However, it is a beautifully written, lyrical description of how wonderful an enduring romance is. One could say this short story is an homage to love.
It's very tropey, which is not necessary a bad thing. The prose is good, if a bit cliche. There's little new here, but some people care for that. It could use some finer editing. For example, in the first few pages the main character meets the love interest and somehow knows his name without being told. In fact, he's introduced and it's stated, "Ethan, as she would later learn." Then the next page has her call him Ethan even though she was never told. She meets him again later and he knows her name somehow as well. There's stuff like that throughout.
The dialogue is very unrealistic. Characters in books do not need to talk exactly how people do in real life; however, there is a balance between lifelike and artificial.
The love interest is a charicature. He is given no personality whatsoever. The plot is very procedural as well with almost no conflict. This happened and then this happened and then this happened. A lot of things are told when they could have been shown through action. There's an entire chapter about them facing a "difficult obstacle" together, but it's never even stated what it is! It's just "unexpected challenges." The entire thing reads like a template of a romance story that wasn't filled out.
I can't say that I'd recommend this. With a lot more work it could be made better. I think the editing must have been just spelling, grammar, and style, not developmental. It's not bad, but it's not good. If you have nothing else to pass the time with it would do fine. But there are so many better options.
This is the story of Emma. She’s found a relationship she’s interested in pursuing, but worries that her past, where she got hurt, could prevent her from falling in love with Ethan, the new guy in her life. This type of story definitely has it’s audience. It’s for people who like happy uplifting tales, where the characters face their problems head on and grow because of it. It contains a strong romantic components without sexual content. The author is fairly skilled at turning a phrase, though she needs to understand how to write that into the author’s thoughts. The writer engages in omnipresent narrator. It’s like watching a documentary with a narrator talking about a relationship. This is fine when watching true crime stories or historical accounts. It falls flat in fiction, though. The book would have been better if the author had stuck to the character’s perspective. That makes the reader feel the character more. The characters don’t talk like people actually talk. They seem prone to cliché statements that are meant to sound profound. The reader won’t usually go, “Oh how profound. They’re more likely to say, “No one talks like that.” Overall, I can’t recommend this book. The execution is too lacking.
Beneath The Moonlit Sky is a very sweet romantic short story. Emma and Ethan meet by accident and fall in love. The short story follows their initial meetings, courtship and then their relationship with each chapter seeming to represent a different stage of their relationship.
Honestly, it is a little too sweet for my taste as it is lacking in conflict or tension and lacks even a hint of closed-door sexual content. At times the story feels more like an overview of Emma and Ethan's relationship since it contains very little detail about the issues they face. These are often summarized with dialogue dispersed through the narrative rather than creating any true conflict, but fans of sweet romance may appreciate this more.
I would expect more from a full-length romance, but the style does work well enough for a short story, and it is a quick and easy read with a lyrical turn of phrase.
“Beneath the Moonlit Sky” is as cozy as the title. If you want sweet, but wounded characters, Emma and Ethan are for you. If you want a sweet, innocent love, look no further. If you want a sweet setting filled with bookshops, holidays, and picturesque descriptions, give this book a chance. Some say cliche stories are too predictable, but if that’s what you want to read, then read this story-filled with feel good love, check out Vicky Peolow’s “Beneath the Moonlit Sky.” I thoroughly enjoyed its soft words, kind relationship, and humble tone.
Beneath the Moonlight Sky - by Vicky Peplow. The author has a beautiful writing style - the words almost sing from the pages, the wonderful love story of Emma and Ethan from their meet cute to their wedding day. This is a story of unconditional love, a bond so strong that it carries them through the bad times and the good to a life full of love and happiness. A beautiful and well written love story!

This is a sweet cozy read about Emma and Ethan who meet accidentally when she is approaching her workplace. She just so happens to own a bookstore. From books spilling onto the ground, to love at first sight, these two start a sweet romance that grows.
I found this to be a very sweet romance that was quick to read. It was a "hard to put down" book. I've read a few of this author's books and will continue to follow her journey.
