The Great Shang dynasty has been in power for many years but the Gods find fault with the new emperor. Instead of submitting to their will at the expense of his people, the Emperor resolves to throw off the Gods' yoke and free humanity. However, not only the Gods but a rival, the young Zhou who submits to the Gods' will for his own purposes will face him!
The fate of the dynasty, nay, the fate of all humanity will be determined by this great battle between the forces of Heaven and Earth!
Zheng has gone in two volumes and completely set the stage for an epic man vs god battle that into the next volume I can see us rushing into full force. Not to be forgotten the coloring and shading of this entire series so far has been outstanding and I’ve caught myself multiple times just staring at frame by frame admiring the detail even after reading its textual content. That and this epic representation line up we finally got to see a bit with the gods and something tells me the pestilence god and our bad*ss human protagonist our about to come blow to blow with each other in these next few pages… I can’t wait. 4.5/5
All manhwa has two aspects. The story and the art. When I write this, I have read up to chapter 92.
Art: The art is to die for. Every page is in color and the drawings are absolutely amazing, from the character expressions to the action scenes. It is an intricate story, with a well built world and the artist has taken great care of everything, making it a treat to just look at the images.
Story: The gods are tyrants who think of all humans as slaves. The King of Shang, Zhou gets sick of this and rebels. He is cut down by the leader of the gods, the only ancient god still alive, Tian. The thing is, Zhou always knew he would start this war but not end it. The next one to rise is his son, Wu Geng who survives the war because of his mother, a goddess, who sacrifices her life to help him take on another body and hide in plain sight. It is from here that the rebellion slowly starts building.
Wu Geng spends the next four years laboring in a mine, extracting blood stones for the gods. It is here that he learns the real meaning of freedom. After the mine, one by one, friends and factions join him: from a group of rebel gods who also want to change the world order and are led by his grandfather, to the Dark Ones - a race of people pushed into hell by Tian a hundred thousand years ago and thirsting for vengeance and a chance to live under the sun. Wu Geng is first trained by the rebel gods and then by his uncle, his father's younger brother, Zi Yu.
That is a blunt summary and a rough introduction of some of the main characters. But in truth the plot is as intricate as the art. From the fact that Wu Geng happened to be an absolute spoiled jerk until this happened to Zi Yu solely surviving to eventually help his nephew, everything is linked.
The Wu Geng we see initially thinks the world owes him everything because of whose son he is. The Wu Geng who is fighting the gods has learned that if he wants something, he has to take it on his own power. He is finally in accordance with his father, after he has lost him. He has all the arrogance of King Zhou, the power to rival the gods, a nasty temper and willingly listens only to his wife, Bai Cai.
I can go on. Right now, I absolutely adore this manhwa but I cannot do it justice. It has to be read to be enjoyed. It is definitely a must read for anyone who has ever read manga, manhwa or even comics or just plain like action.
I thought i wrote a review for this great manhua. Apparently i didn't, so i must correct that mistake. Feng Shen Ji was my first contact with Chinese comic-book (manhua) world. I am a long time Japanese manga fan, and reading them i knew what to expect with every new one i pick up, regarding the style it's done in. But this one showed me a new part of Asia, and a whole new world of "comics", that now when i look at it, is mix of western modern comics and classic Japanese manga. Full of colors, details and various array of fonts really bring another dimension to the story. But let's talk more about this piece. Feng Shen Ji talks about struggle between humans ( and later other factions ) and gods. Gods are pompous pricks who live with the idea humans are their slaves, and that is all. Well, one Emperor thought differently and started a fight with gods, showing other humans that freedom is most important thing, and all have right to it (in my country we have a saying for this,"better grave than slave"). When he heroically died, everything is left in his sons hands, as he ventures into the world, getting stronger and ready to end the reign of gods.

This is, without a doubt, one of the best manga series I have ever read. It is artistically masterful, with beautiful and rich drawings and colorations. The story is intense and subtle, and tackles high-minded themes with grace and charm. The characters are phenomenal. I really cannot praise this manhua (漫画 - since it is indeed of Chinese origin) enough.
In this season I got Shi Xing backstory which is very sad. Fuck those gods and their stupid rules. And also Bai Cai meeting with the Dark Ones and all of them preparing and waging war with the gods. Ngl, there are some fight in the war that feels kinda dragged out lol but yeah I enjoyed most of it. Shi Xing, Zen Chan and NiTian EnXing characters stood up the most for me in this season and also, Wu Geng cocky moments lmaooo.
I also really like the time after the war, Dark Ones lead by Wu Geng built their own City/Civilization, definitely one of my most favorite parts in the whole story 🗿👍
Not as good as volume 1. I don't think Ah Gou has ever won a single fight by himself and comes off as super annoying in this volume. Zi Yu is the real main character.
2.5/5 stars.
Mesmerizing piece of coloured manhua characters are fantastically created but the story lost its charm after (SPOILER ALERT) battle in the realm of gods in which the seemingly main antagonist dies and with it the whole point...
This series is so charmingly Aesthetic. Every Chapter has been carefully drawn and coloured, not unlike Japanese Manga, who usually do not Give ink to their Chapters. The Story is gripping & have you on the edge of your seat, especially the Battles. A fine Fantasy War Thriller!!
Interesting epic fantasy with Chinese inspirations. From prince to slave to... rebel! A bloody read, unsuitable for those sensitive and staying away from dead (mutiliated) bodies.
