Kathryn Moon is a country mouse who started dictating stories to her mother at an early age. The fascination with building new worlds and discovering the lives of the characters who grew in her head never faltered, and she graduated college with a fiction writing degree. She loves writing women were are strong in their vulnerability, romances that are as affectionate as they are challenging, and worlds that a reader sinks into and never wants to leave. When her hands aren't busy typing they're probably knitting sweaters or crimping pie crust in Ohio. She definitely believes in magic.

This book is a collection of 4 individual books in the series and the star rating is an average of all 4 books. I really like that all 4 books are included in one. I often want to dive right into the next book and this made it super easy to do it.

The initial premise: Joanna leaves her small town to take a job as a librarian-in-training at a Magical University. It's a bit "Little Girl in the Big (Magical) World" as Joanna starts her new job and meets coworkers and friends along the way. 3 men in particular take interest in her and she's fully thrown into the magical world. Believing she doesn't have magic, she doubts their interest in her as the fourth in their coven. Cue the "I'm not good enough" angst. The story proceeds as Joanna develops closer relationships with Aiden, Isaac and Callum and, surprise!, learns she has magic all her own.

I felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride with these 4 books. I enjoyed Books 1 & 2 and the development of the characters, their relationship and Joanna's newfound magical ability. Light spoiler - Turns out her magic is in her writing. I found this to be the most interesting and creative magic system I've read recently. Magic of the written word becomes a strong theme throughout the series. There's also a strong found family thread amongst the main 4. And a great relationship forms between Joanna's coven and the Head Librarian Gwen's coven. I also really enjoyed how those friendships were woven into the story along with her relationships. Joanna and her coven and friends face threats and obstacles as the series progresses.

Books 3 & 4 took a left turn and I found myself needing to reread paragraphs to make sure I understood what was actually happening. I felt there were some missing pieces in that part of the story that more world-building or simple explanations would've solved. I was confused at times and it impacted my reading experience.

I liked the series and think anyone who likes unique magic systems, polycule relationships and found family will like this series too. I just wish there was some more story development, back-story or world-building to bridge all of the books within the series. Books 1 & 2 felt disjointed from Books 3 & 4.

I picked this out because I have really liked Kathryn Moon books in the past for easy fun reads and somehow ended up spite finishing this unnecessarily long book/series just so I could write this review. I’ll be sticking with her new books from now on.
I only have this 2 stars instead of 1 because the first book was decent.

Not bad, but just lost interest after book 2 (honestly after book 1 but read the second book anyway). Might come back and pick it up later
