Bitter Bones

Rate this book
The finale is here...

The Beast is bringing the battle to the mortal realm, and Prue's finally ready to face him. Or is she? Maybe. Life is complicated, but that's what makes it beautiful.

The war is brewing, the rogues are desperate, and a human enemy lurks in the darkness, threatening to derail Prue's hero era before it even begins.

And Isobel... Well. Sometimes being a hero is a thankless job. There's no need to be bitter about it.

What a great series. I'm going to miss the mix of angst, humour, antics, and fast pace near doom flow of Prue, Max, Cindy, and more!
Even the ones you should hate become someone you will kind of miss hating.

The book ends with a HEA and is well deserved. I gasped, laughed, and nearly cried reading this book. Although there was no smut, there was a warm fuzzy steam, which it something I didn't think I could experience... warm fuzzy steam...awww.
I am going to miss this book. But maybe I will get to visit the worl again through another of the characters series.

I didn't enjoy this book. There was a couple major problem.
1. Isobel. In book 3 their sisters told how she did torture them too when they were kids. They told how she abused FMC since her birth trying to get her killed when she was just a baby (Years before her dying). It was told that Isobel did so horrible things for sisters too, that they never been able to speak about those things, and they didn't even now. So how the duck it is possible that in this last book she is just a little traumatised and obsessed hating just FMC? What the fuckin kind of mother of their is just fine with her doings? How on earth everything is just fine and her doings being just little over reacting for her los of father? (oh yes, she had a loss and her sisters didn't? Duck that.) No. you can not change characters past just like that. She was told to be a monster years before FMC:s birth and their Fathers dying, She was told to abused FMC years before her dying day, She was told to abusing and torturing her other siblings when they were kids. This was bullshit to make her "not so bad" in last book.
2. I didn't like what happened to Salazar.
3. This book was not fun anymore, it was boring.
4. Wedding on the end. Yeah, so disappointed. Like everything is now cool because previously ass kicking FMC got princess wedding day. I'm not satisfied for that

Wish I liked this more… this series just doesn’t vibe the way the others do, and the only really engaging parts are when Chloe sneaks in again and ties up some loose ends from her series. Yes the arc resolves but in a way that you just want it to be done. The beginning was set up to have so many world-shaking, horrid modern world problems that I was reluctant to go forward (telling enough that this one took me a whole week to finish off, despite still only being the ~250 page count like most of these titles, and most of the others were 1-2 days maximum) …
The rushed ending ties off the problems I guess, the bad guy experiences a moment of perspective -the theme of this one- and there’s a sickly sweet epilogue but it just didn’t satisfy… while being entirely possible that I just enjoyed the other series’ so much that it would be hard to keep the bar high enough, I’m ready for a break now. I’ll get to the further adventures of Dwayne and his wolf girl friend sometime in the future, but timeouts are needed.

entertaining urban fantasy adventure series

This is the final book in this chapter of the urban fantasy adventure series. A great cast of coaches in an entertaining storyline. This is the sixth and final book improves story. The battle is getting ready to come to ahead and all the people improve lives are at risk in the battle must be fought. The question now is can they make it to the battle and can they win. Read and find out. Then go onto Chloe‘s story in the next series.

What in the hell happened here!? All of a sudden Prue is some sort of damsel in distress who needs Max and other surprise characters to save her?

Additionally, why must the author keep writing our characters as being coy with information? A bunch of “I’ll tell you later” or hemming and hawing rather than spitting out what’s going on!!! At this point it’s ridiculous. They rescue the kids but the supposed plot to summon The Beast was dropped. I mean, I understand not having the kids would delay their plans of summoning, but all the prep that was supposedly being done was abandoned? They all just went back to the apartment building? 😑🙄

Why did we come into the next book acting like none of the visit to the fae realm even happened?!! And what do you mean Isobel has always loved Prue?! That’s a bunch of horseshit. The mom sounds flighty and she has an overnight bag? Why would she have one of those, as if she’d been capable of packing things for a quick overnight getaway.

I’m still not done with the book but I had to start the review now so I don’t forget all of the things going through my mind as I am reading.

I’ve finished now….

Seriously, did someone else write this book??? What happened to Prue’s twin sisters and their abuse at the hands of Isobel? Why was Piper oblivious to that, the twins clearly said Isobel was so abusive they got away from her as soon as they could. Authors are at perfect liberty to write their books however they want, but when you change such huge pieces of an overarching plot line, the readers are well within their rights to call it out. It truly felt like someone else wrote this book.

I did not at all care for how we start the book as if nothing much had changed, we have a case to solve, nope, nothing to see here folks. I wanted more of Karlynnon/The Beast. He was in this book all of 2 pages and it was all wrapped up in a neat little bow, and I hated who ultimately was responsible for taking him down.

Bottom line, Prue went from this badass, super powerful, supposedly untouchable supernatural creature to someone cowering in a corner or falling for traps or trying to sneak away to take care of things herself, but other people did it all for her it was so weird how that happened. Just really anticlimactic yet overly complicated ending to the series.

YES, YES, YES to this fantastic action packed, humor filled epic finale. I just knew I was in for an adrenaline rush of emotions with a side order of heartbreak with the conclusion of Prue's adventures and i LOVED that i wasn't wrong. Boy oh boy Lauretta delivered big time, keeping me on my toes and biting my nails anxiously right to the last chapter. Of course there was a twist or two that was thrown into the mix but I expect nothing less from this fabulous author and it was marvellous. And that ending was totally magical making the romantic in me sing with happiness...

Prue and the gang have more problems than they can count at the moment. The rogue supernaturals are banding together hoping to rule the world and subjugate the humans. It's only a matter of time before the Beast arrives in the mortal realm, where he is determined
to eradicate those he seems unfit to live knowing only Prue stands in his way. And then there's the fact that Prue has become a target for the FBI, who wants to take her out of the picture permanently. If that wasn't enough to worry about, she also has to watch her back from the one person who's life she just saved. Isobel....

Prue kind, loving, reckless, sassy and powerful this girl has all the things I love about a strong female character and more. Her growth throughout this series was wonderful to see and I admire her immensely. I really went through the wringer with this character but I can say I don't regret one single moment of it. I adore everything about her and she will be the one I miss the most.

Max is in fine form too in this book, his devotion to Prue and all those he loves makes me swoon but it's his animalistic feral side that really made my heart pitter patter. I mean I'm used to him being sweet and loving but you kinda forget that there's a terrifying warrior beast under that surface and it's magnificent. Love him.

After the events of the previous book Salozar is now badly injured but his determination to get his own vengeance had me loving him all over again. Yeah the wily fae who I really wasn't sure of in the beginning stole my heart and he'll live there rent free forever.

And Cindy my little glowering gothflower who had me in absolute fits of giggles over her colourful descriptions to describe certain situations was freaking fantastic, she's a mini me of Prue at times. I'm definitely going to miss her.

I loved that Chloe made an appearance as well in this book and I'm glad I actually read her series first as it gave me more of an insight to her character before turning up in this one, she's another character I adore and it felt like an old friend returning when she showed up.

This was a 10/10 series for me and one I know I will read again and again because I just loved Prue that damn much. This is a must read series that I cannot recommend highly enough. I swear you won't regret it 😁

Amazing end to a great series! Wow, everything came together and all the pieces finally fell into place for Prue.

That's the kind of ending you want, one where all the threads are neatly tied off. Is everything solved? For Prue it is, but the world is one in which there's been three series and another coming, so there are things that didn't get resolved fully, and makes you want more.

I love Prue! I loved watching her struggles with her family, and all the found family she's made. Cindy, the gothflower, is one of my favorites, and she gets her chance to be triumphant for once, even if it comes with even more trauma. For such a little thing, she's had a mountain of trauma to overcome. As has Prue.

If you want a story with wild characters, a different look at magic and the Fae, all the feels, tons of action and suspense, look no further! Bitter Bones and the whole Bones series won't let you down!

Oh my sweet bones!

It is a bittersweet book 6 in a series I have enjoyed tremendously. Ms. Hignett seems to specialize in these with all the series set in this world. And yet we still have hope that we will see all of our favorite characters again in the future. We open with War on the horizon, Magic users working with government humans to bring the end of Magic to the world. No one understands why these two groups are working together, especially Prue. Once she and the others figure it has to do with bringing the Beast of Bakkanon to our realm they realize they must save the world. The battle that follows isn’t drawn out for dozens of chapters but rather builds to a climax quickly and logically. A very satisfying ending but I will be sorry that the series is done.

I generally liked this series but this was such an annoying finale. It's like all the growth and work Prue has done to be a strong, confident badass went out the window. She just whined and doubted herself nonstop. "I can't do this" was the motto of this book. Also, if they would just freaking share info instead of saying "I'll tell you later" then wasting time bantering, a lot of crap could have been avoided.
Also, why is there never any proper repercussions for humans being awful? So annoying. And we are just going to let Isabel off with the excuse that she was never actually hurting Prue? What about their sisters? They even said previously, in court, that Isabel tortured them too. Are we just goinf to forget that to try and ensure a HEA?
Anyways, Salazar remains a favorite, Isabel is a lunatic, and Cindy is a hero.
That's all.

I Am Disappointed

I liked this story idea I did. I also thought it was far to drawn out and then I can’t help but be disappointed but how predictable and easy it all was.

We are in the final book, I wanted Prue to really manifest her fae powers, but in the end we lost perhaps the most interesting character and as expected her sister made an appearance and easily ended the battle.

For what resolution there was it just all felt rushed, and I think with the number of books the author should have fleshed these characters out more, grown their powers, but they are all the same from book one to six.

Like I said it was a great story idea but it needs a lot more work to be great books.

Bitter Bones (Blood and Magic book 6) by Lauretta Hignett is a 5 ⭐️ read.
I really wasn’t ready for this book, I thought I was, I needed to know how this brilliant seres ended and now I have I’m sad, but happy because next up we have Chloe’s story.
Prue knows she’s in for the fight of her life, there’s a blood witch trying to bring her father into the human world, she’s the most wanted person for crimes she didn’t commit and her sister, the one who hates her guts wakes up from a coma and steals a magical knife that can kill her!! There’s so much going on in this book, my emotions were all over the place and yes tears were shed. I cannot recommend this author’s books enough.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I absolutely love this series and this book is no exception. There is so much going on in the first half of the book, you almost wonder where else it can go. The government is still searching for Prue, while Prue and the team are trying to find Rasputin (the blood mage). Isobel and her mom wake up as well. Her mom is still seems crazy, but is just so darn lovable. Chloe comes back to DC and surprises Prue. I just finished Vicious Creatures, Chloe’s first book, and I’m glad I read that before finishing this book! (You can definitely read this without her book, but it gave me some extra insight.) There was so much suspense, I was on the edge of my seat reading this book and not wanting to put it down. There is redemption for the characters that needed it, even if there was a sad (for me) goodbye! It was a wonderful way to wrap up this series and give all the characters the closure they needed. And even though I am sad this adventure is over, I now have Chloe's stories to look forward to!

The end is near and our heroine is going to do her best to make it a good ending. Is she ready? Only one way to find out.

This is book six of the series and its conclusion. I highly recommend starting from the beginning.

This is an urban fantasy story with all kinds of critters in it. The story is well written and easy to read. Perhaps too easy to read as it draws you in at the beginning and doesn't let go. The characters are well done, the setting is fascinating and the plot moves along at such a clip that it is hard to put the book down. Overall, this was a very fun story and I look forward to more from this author.

Highly recommended.

refreshing

Damn hea lol I’m nearly in tears.
Now that’s what I call a happy ever after ❤️

Now talk about twists, there was so many in this series. Prue was one of the best FMCs I’ve ever read. Crazy, fun, entertaining, best sense of humour and wild. I’ve not laughed so much in a long time. She was the life of this series. And I don’t know about anybody else after reading this but I want my own pixie friend. Cindy was adorable and fun and pretty much a double of Prue at times.

This this has been one of the best series ever read. Each book is addictive, fun and entertaining. Absolutely incredible series. Perfect for any age, definitely a pick me up.

I’m actually gonna miss Prue and her wild adventures.

great series must read

This was fun. It’s been a while since I’ve found a series that’s light hearted, passionate, unpredictable, and a good time.
Poor Pru died when she was three and was resurrected somewhat by her masterful witch mom. Unfortunately, she was brought back as a corpse with a soul. So she glamours her living skeleton which turns out to be a real manifestation. Which she can change.
Her mother is nuts after sacrificing herself to bind a powerful Fae warlord from another realm. Her sister hates her because she was a living corpse and feels she ruined her life. The love of her life can’t be because she’s supposed to be an impartial enforcer. Aaaaaand she gets blamed for everything, of course she does.

All the feels for this finale

Bitter Bones was. Avery fast paced book, lots going on with several characters. I'm so sad for Salozar. He did a180 in this series and was instrumental in the final battle. Karlynonn was a complete evil jackwagon. He was so cruel. I freaking love Max. There are so many great characters in this book. Also, the final battle had all the allies. I loved the ending. I also loved the character growth throughout. I wish Isobel had followed Karlynonn or at least went to kick rocks.
Series finale. Series needs to be read in order. Told from h POV. HEA ending.

I milked this book for as long as possible because I never wanted the series to end. I started this series with the oops I ate a vengeance demon (Sandy’s story) from a stuff your kindle event. I love this author’s writing so much. I am consistently laughing out loud and at the end of this series was in tears. I’ve bought every single book since the stuff your kindle event, and I can’t wait to continue on with Chloe’s story. Of course there’s a goose lmao why not. I just loved this series and this author! Not spicy but great world building, great humor, wonderful character development, satirical and honest takes on real life…. I’m just sitting here in a book hangover for a minute.

oh man

I’ve been holding on to this last book for a while now. I’ve even read most of Chloe’s series. But Prue, she’s just something special. And now we know just how awesome she is. I’ve adored this series from the beginning. I’m so sad to see it end and yet it was absolutely beautiful. I cannot BELIEVE how it all turned out. Seriously, I’ve decided Piper might be my new favorite character. Again. Mind blown. There’s been so many twists and turns and plot thickeners. Absolutely stunning. I’m a fan and I’ll definitely continue to be a huge fan!

A series that puts your emotions through the wringer but leaves you with a smile

SO much happens in the Bones series. Prue is tried and tested in every way possible, but her strength, determination and heart carry her through, with those she loves (and who love her) by her side. This book is the finale, bringing everything together for the momentous battle against not only The Beast, but those who seek to rule, subjugate and eradicate. A true good versus bad battle, with an ending that is all you could wish for.

Fantastic finale to the Prue Nakai series! The book has moments of hilarity which literally had me chuckling out loud. It also has moments where you are on the edge of you seat, reading as fast as possible to see what happens next. I cannot wait for the series this will lead into (for the amazing Chloe). Lauretta really knows how to write a good series and I love the universe she writes about!!! Cannot recommend enough!

The grand finale to this series was a roller coaster ride! Prue and crew prevail against what seems to be insurmountable odds coming at them from all directions. Whew! All the major characters were woven together to share in the victory, which I appreciated because they were all so well drawn. I love books that that have a strong supporting cast. Prue has been through Heck and back and I'm so very glad she got her HEA!

A Satisfactory Conclusion

I hate waiting for books since I read so quickly, but this time it was definitely worth the wait. I initially fell in love with Lauretta’s Immortal series and have continued to follow all of the characters in her world, but I do have a slight preference for Prue and her adventures. This is the final book in Prue’s journey, however Chloe’s story is coming up next and we will catch glimpses of our other friends once again. Enjoy!

loved the series

This is the third series in Lauretta’s universe. I throughly enjoyed Imogen’s, Sandy’s, Prue’s adventures in finding, not only love, but finding themselves. And now I am looking forward to reading Chloe’s adventure. It would be really cool to have a series for Amelia, as it seems like her story would be like riding a fun rollercoaster and party bus all in one. Please, please, please consider it Lauretta 🥹

“Bitter Bones” marks the end of the “Blood and Magic” series.
I’ve mostly enjoyed it but this final book, while satisfactory, was not the conclusion I was hoping for.
It’s a little bit of a damp squib – the Beast is finally defeated but in a totally unexpected manner.
And the underlying preaching finally got past the annoying stage. Why are imposing and handsome men given special treatment? For exactly the same reason that beautiful women are! It is not well argued.

Amazingly unique characters and surprisingly funny

I’ve been remiss about leaving a word review but I loved this story! It was kick ass & funny. It stayed on my shelf after I read another series, because I thought there wasn’t any way it could live up to my expectations. It did! If you like this genre dive in! My life can be a little too real, so I enjoy the fantasy for pleasure reading!

This book is everything I needed from the finale of Prue!
It is so hard to write a review without giving away spoilers but just know you are missing out if you don't read it! I was truly gutted this series has ended, thank you Lauretta!
Oh and Cindy mocking Prue after finding out about what the dagger can do is just the funnist thing I've read!

Loved this series! This was the first series I’ve read by this author, and am looking forward to reading more. I loved the ending. Sad at one of the deaths, but knew it was inevitable. Loved how Max was always by her side…..and really loved how her family grew and she had such love and support

What a wonderful Series

I first came across Lauretta's work with the "Susan" books and was hooked. Moved on to Sandy and Mavka and then Prue. Chloe will be the next.

Highly recommend all these books, something a bit different and very entertaining too.

Witches, vampires, shifters and humans - and some mixtures too. What's not to love ❤️

I rate the whole series and all the book so far 5 stars

This has been a wonderful series each one I've read seems to be just as wonderful as the last one. I'm just about to start on Chloe's story and I'll be sad when I finish that and hope that Lauretta produces some more in the near future.

Some part are so obvious that it’s a trap and she runs into it. And Isolbel is a good sister at the end…
I hope we will see a reincarnation of Dalozar. I liked the character and strangely, even if I really like Max and I always prefer the hero, I was rooting for him at some point so I would like to see his happy ending too.
