Your letters kept me alive all these years... but I’m done waiting.
Declan Simmons’ time in the paranormal army left him with scars, both inside and out. Night after night, Declan dreams of the monster that wiped out his entire unit. Cliff is his safe harbor. He’s the sole reason Declan hasn’t given in to despair. He knows what’s between Cliff and him is special... but there’s Cliff’s older brother to consider. How can he even begin to tell his best friend that he wants to make Cliff his?
Cliff Mullins has always longed to step out of his brothers' shadows. No one sees him, the real him, except Declan. For the longest time, Cliff has had a massive crush on his brother’s best friend. During Declan’s deployment, they grew even closer. Cliff’s fox half knows Declan is theirs for the keeping, but there are other outside forces at work.
Apart from facing Cliff’s brother, the malevolent force that slaughtered Declan’s unit wants to finish the job... and it doesn’t care if Cliff becomes collateral damage.
"Protecting His Fox" is the third book in the Fox Haven series. Love and danger entwine as Declan and Cliff fight for their love and their lives. Will they find the strength to defy the odds and build a future together, or will the past's shadows swallow them whole?
Declan Simmons was in the paranormal army. His best friend’s brother, Cliff Mullins, wrote to him often and sent care packages ever since he was deployed. Cliff wasn’t his boyfriend, but he and his brother James, fox shifters, felt like family and they kept in touch with him. Cliff sent him a package every month without fail. Last time Declan had seen Cliff, he was a quiet boy. Now he was in his early 20’s. Declan went back to his bunk and eagerly tore open the package of chocolates and cookies. Then he read the enclosed letter. Cliff had become the most important person in Declan’s life over the past couple of years. His letters kept him grounded and got him through moments of darkness or doubt. Holding the letter in his hands, he drifted off to sleep.
Declan’s unit went at dawn to investigate a town where something supernatural attacked and consumed the people. Another team had gone ahead and never returned. Captain Diaz, a fire mage, sent two men ahead to scout, only to soon after say they lost contact with both of them! They entered the mayor’s house and gunfire and screams sounded! Running to the back yard, the entire ground was cover with body parts ripped apart by violence. Something with red eyes and long fangs glanced up at Declan. The entire unit except for Declan was slaughtered, despite their paranormal abilities. And he was honorably discharged with a medal and sent home covered in scars. Only re-reading Cliff’s letters kept him sane and took away the terror of the nightmares.
Declan had stayed away from Cliff and James for 2 months to try to get his head cleared. But now he is ready to face them. James has planned to have Declan stay with them for now, and Cliff is not sure how to act! Once Declan and Cliff recognize what they feel for each other, this could be awkward. And neither yet knows that the evil that wiped out Declan’s unit is now ready to kill him as well. If Cliff is also killed, it would be simply a bonus for the evil creatures! Will the monsters succeed? Or is there some way they can survive?
This is the third book in the Fox Haven series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. This is the story of Declan Simmons and Cliff Mullins. Declan has just returned from serving in the paranormal army. When his unit was wiped out and he alone survived; he has scars inside and out. The thing that kept him going were the letters from his best friends youngest brother. Cliff is the youngest Mullins son and he has loved Declan from afar for years. Cliff is tired of always being in his brothers shadows. The correspondence between him and Declan is something special that is only his for a change. Both men hold the letters close to their heart. Cliff is trying to decide which path his life should take. Declan has a few ideas on that. Now that he is back home, he doesn't plan on giving up Cliff. This is their story. I liked how the relationship built between them. They have always been family but now in a more personal way. The problem that has followed Declan home is determined to end the two of them. Only by working together will they be able to survive. This book is well written and easy to read.
We've already met Cliff in this series and now he gets his own book, finally finding his happiness after years of longing for his friend. Declan's time in the military left him with PTSD but that's not all, and it seems as though he's bought it home with him, putting others in danger, especially Cliff, the man he's loved for a long time. I liked the inventiveness of the mysterious entity that is after them. It's a good spin and not one I've seen before. I loved Cliff and Decalan as a couple and I liked Cliff's eldest brother, Shane. I was fed up with James's attitude, treating his best friend Declan horribly and being awful to his younger brother Cliff too. I can understand his sense of betrayal but his reaction was too far over the top. Once it became clear to him how deep their feelings were, he still carried on acting like a child and it was tiresome. I liked seeing Oliver and look forward to his story, with fingers crossed that James can redeem himself.
Declan is a human but he has known about shifters since he was a child. His neighbors James and Cliff were fox shifters. James and Declan were best friends while Cliff was James' younger brother. When Declan grew up, he joined the military and ended up in the paranormal branch. Declan saw lots of dark and evil things and the only thing that made it bearable were Cliff's letters and care packages. Declan knows that when he returns to the states, he will do his best to make Cliff his forever. Then came his last mission where Declan sees his whole unit killed by evil entities. He survives but is badly wounded. After he spends some time healing, he goes to Fox Haven to see James and Cliff again. He is happy to be with Cliff again but then he learns that evil has followed him to Fox Haven.

'I had put Cliff in danger, never realizing a ghost of my past would track me down to Fox Haven. The guilt weighed heavily on my conscience... But that wasn't the only truth I needed to confront. My feelings for Cliff were as undeniable as the air I breathed. How would I ever find the words to tell James that his best friend harbored more than just friendship for his younger brother?'
I really enjoyed the first two books in this series and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. I really loved it. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Declan and Cliff. I thought they were really sweet together. Declan has been through horrors and lost his entire unit, only Cliff's letters helping to pull him through. But when that past catches up to him and threatens Cliff, will he be able to protect Cliff and take care of the threat? An exciting read. 5 stars.
Never give up, never surrender! Declan, is in the paranormal army. He often experiences the unknown and the unnatural. Cliff, his bestie's brother sends care packages and writes to him. His letters are an oasis in the horror Declan is living through. While out, a misison goes wrong and his unit is slaughtered. Did the threat get neutralized or is it still active? Declan, returns home battle scarred and with PTSD. When the threat comes after him, does Declan have the tools to eliminate him? Cliff and Declan, TEAM! Nicely done! Good cover art! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Book 3 in this series has mysterious and dangerous forces threatening our MCs, Cliff and Declan. Childhood friends falling in love, eventually mating that led to their HEA. Some difficult topics like PTSD was throughout but the love the MCs had for each other and support help with the traumatic experiences both were dealing with...especially Declan. Truthfully I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first two but I really wanted to see how the outcome would be and I was satisfied with the guys ending.

This was a great book. I really enjoyed Cliff and Declan together. These two have had a connection for a while but now that Declan is home these two can't help but fall hard and fast for each other. When the darkness from Declan recent past come back, these two not only have to survive a new relationship but also protective brothers and a dark entity that was revenge.

When you survive with PTSD and the nightmares return - A page turner here!
Declan has his best friend which is his extended family. The military elite service is taking its toll and letters n packages help get him through. Cliff has had a crush on his brother best friend but this need to stay in touch is beyond a crush. When Declan returns to small town how will things unfold? Life & death and "off limits" romance? MM romance

Declan and Cliff formed a relationship from afar and in person when Declan comes to Fox Haven. Together they take down their foe with help from Oliver.
Declan comes home and brings a demon with him. Cliff helps to fight off the jinn after he causes mayhem among the people closet to Dec. After being possessed Dec comes to the rescue and all is well. Pretty good book.

This is another good addition to the series this is Declan and Cliff’s story, this is another good well written action packed suspense story and it was great seeing Declan and Cliff growing closer together the more difficulties they came across, can’t wait for next book in the series.
This has been an interesting series but this was the most interesting story yet. I got pulled at the start and couldn't wait to see how it all played out.
This is the third book in the Fox Haven series and while a standalone this is a fun series that is nice to read in order. I loved reading about Cliff and Declan and can't wait until the next book.
