Theirs to Claim

The claiming ceremony happens once a year, and in between, there is no contact with members of the opposite sex unless you’re married.
So really, there’s absolutely no pressure at all in attending. Right?
I've graduated early to get my ticket to graduation, desperate to get out of the dorms for single women. My best friend and I are in this together, ready to get dressed up and essentially speed date our way to our soul mates.
I'm nervous, waiting for a connection to someone I've never seen, never heard of, and certainly never met. We get ten minutes with them, and then we cycle through the rest of the eligible guys.
That's not even the craziest part, though. The crazy thing is, after we meet with everyone and we know who our mate is, we get married right then and there and skip off into the sunset together.
Why am I the only one here with more than one mate, though?
