Another twisty, toxic marriage story with unreliable characters. Lately both Prime Video and Apple+ release amazing book adaptations. So, all wives forgives their cheating husband. Even tho one of them got a bj while they have been married less than a year. While the h forgives her cheating husband even tho he had an affair with her continue to see her even tho H says that H ended up but instead H made a sex tape with Ow. Then, bought a necklace to ow saying love in welsh (h and H’s country language)
h sleeps with the bf of ow once (I think) and kills ow thinking it was her husband. Then, kill the boyfriend of ow bc he found the necklace that H gave to ow and was going to tell the police.
h isn’t found guilty and lives a “happy life” with her cheating husband waiting for the next time he cheats. h is already following a woman from his new job (they come back home from nyc) in case she needs to intercept. h killed a man before when she was a teenager (her crush)
Long story short, they all suck

thoroughly enjoyed Wilderness, a brilliantly paced character driven drama/ psychological thriller hybrid with a fascinating central protagonist who gets just a little grumpy when betrayed…
An affair uncovered and a “healing” road trip to the wildest places soon becomes a twisty, addictive tale with Liv scrambling to deal with unexpected spanners in the works and save her marriage. Assuming she wants to. Girl changes with the weather so the whole novel is beautifully delightful.
Insightful human drama mixed with plenty of edge of the seat near misses and a coolly immersive central premise, Wilderness is a great read.
Recommended.

A road trip across America, the chill of the desert at night and all the dangers that lurk there, the unberable heat of the day and the danger in the car? A wife hell bent on revenge on her husband. No one to hear anyone scream ? Now THAT is a premise and a half.
Just a postcard review for now. This is good. very good. You be needing an adventure this weekend - read this book! Hang out of a *stationary* car window for full effect.

I read Halfway by B.E Jones last year and liked it enough to say a big, fat YES when I was asked to be on the blog tour for her newest book. But I was blown away but how much I loved Wilderness compared to Halfway! It had a completely different style of writing and plotting compared to her previous book and it worked perfectly for me! This is a brilliant psychological thriller with plenty of “love to hate” characters and lots of twists to keep you on your toes!
Liv has discovered her husband is a cheat. They have relocated from Wales to New York and she is now obsessed by his affair and the lies he is still telling. A road trip to discover the beauty and wilderness of the national parks is also a test for him to prove he is still a worthy husband because if he isn’t then she’s in the perfect place for him to “disappear”. But this book is so much more than I’ve described here! It’s a brilliant insight into the breakdown of a relationship but with plenty of unexpected twists and turns throughout!
I absolutely devoured Wilderness! It took me a little while to get my bearings, mainly because it wasn’t what I was expecting after reading her previous book, but I was hooked pretty quickly into the nightmarish and ugly breakdown of their marriage that clashed so well with the beautifully wild and unstructured setting. None of the characters were particularly likeable with their flawed, direct demands on themselves and others and I trusted absolutely NO ONE but, for me, this is my perfect storyline. As all paths lead to a shocking denouement, I had no idea how I was going to fight through the tangled mess that had been left behind but it all came together with a very satisfying ending.
I can highly recommend Wilderness for anyone who loves domestic noir psychological thrillers as much as I do and this is definitely one of the best I’ve read this year so far! Absolutely brilliant!

Thriller set in the NATIONAL PARKS, USA
Will and Olivia have moved from Wales to New York City for his work. Whilst he spends long hours working, Olivia is getting to know her neighbourhood and the city. One day, however, she discovers that he has been having an affair, and it may well still be on-going.
After her devastating discovery she decided on a plan of revenge. She will stalk his lover, send her threatening texts and more. She also decides on one liaison herself with a specific purpose. And then she and Will are off on holiday to the National Parks – to Yosemite, Death Valley, The Grand Canyon, and Mariposa Grove. This is a 1,500 mile grand tour of reconnecting, only Will is unaware that she has set the bar quite high for him. He has tasks to complete, essentially to show her that he is doing penance and that the she is still the special person in his life. One push is all it could take to end things between them. She is a woman who already has form and a dark side to her nature.
Back in New York the police inevitably become involved after events back in the West and the author feeds into the story, to round off then conclusion.
The author does a great job of portraying setting and at the end of the book she talks about Dream Holidays with Dark Visions!! She also provides a great Playlist to accompany the Wilderness road trip.
So, if you fancy a trip via a good, tense story to the National Parks, then pick up this book! Recommended.

I received a free eARC of Wilderness but that has in no way influenced my review.
I loved this book. It’s the first book I’ve read by B.E. Jones but I can safely say that it won’t be the last. Boy, can this author write a dark and dangerous character! If you’re a regular visitor to the blog then you will know that I am a sucker for characters. The plot and the setting (which are both brilliant in this novel, by the way) can be ‘okay’ providing the characters stand tall and leap from the page. I want living breathing people who make me feel something – that’s not asking too much, is it? Wilderness is a cracking example of exactly how to write incredible, believable characters and also tick the all-important plot and setting boxes with confidence and flair! I absolutely loved Liv. I’m still not entirely sure I was supposed to love her as she’s very much a character on the edge. But hey, I do like a dark undertone and it’s often the more complex creations who appeal to me more!
Liv and her husband, Will, are living the dream. Following Will’s promotion, they up-sticks from picturesque Wales and move to the hustle and bustle of New York City. Everything is perfect…until Liv discovers that her husband has been unfaithful with a colleague. Will apologies for his error of judgement and promises it will never happen again. And then it does. Liv is utterly heartbroken and enraged by the deceit and immediately starts to plan her revenge. One ‘dream’ holiday to America’s national parks and three chances for Will to prove he’s sorry. If he fails, well…..sometimes terrible accidents happen in the wilderness, don’t they?
The plot, the characters, the setting, the cover, the blurb – I loved absolutely everything about this book. It’s very likely it will feature in my top 10 books of the year list in December. Liv is pushed to her absolute limit – the repercussions of which were fascinating to watch. I couldn’t look away as she slowly unravelled before my eyes and I HAD to find out how the story would end. It’s not often I wish for a happy ending in my books but I was desperate for life to turn out OK for Liv. Does it? Well, you’ll have to get hold of a copy of Wilderness and find out for yourself.
Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. It’s one that shouldn’t be missed and the perfect Summer holiday read partly due to the fabulous setting (maybe not the murders!). Speaking of the setting, I loved how the author conveyed the stark contrast between the two locations in the US. You have the wide open space of the national parks versus the built up and somewhat claustrophobic feeling of New York City. It’s all so beautifully written that you can’t help but ‘live’ the locations with the characters. An absolute joy to read! Highly recommended.

I have come across this fabulous author before and I have another of her novels, Halfway on my Kindle, although I've yet to read it. Naturally, this latest one,
Wilderness
caught my eye and it certainly did not disappoint!
The plot was fabulous, intense and so intriguing - the story goes back and forth in time between a road trip that married couple Liv and Will Taylor are taking to revive their relationship and the events that lead to the deterioration of their marriage. I appreciated the way B.E. Jones gradually disclosed soupçons of information allowing me another perspective on what I'd just read and on the next piece of the story. There were no elaborate twists, instead the story had a wonderful subtlety and a multitude of pivotal moments that linked seamlessly into the rest of the tale.
B.E. Jones is the master of good characterisation. It was so easy for me to empathise with Liv because I could feel many of her emotions, the anger, paranoia, pain, insecurity and indecision. Although Liv wasn't likeable, by some peculiar reader-manipulation B.E. Jones made me desperate to know what was in store for Liv, regardless of her personality traits. Will, I found even less appealing than Liv. He was not as fully fleshed out, he struck me as rather an unsympathetic character, and I wasn’t particularly invested in what happened to him, though he was obviously, in my opinion, extremely relevant to Liv's journey and the overall story.
I enjoyed the author's descriptions of the road trip settings interspersed throughout the novel as they provided an aura of eeriness, highlighting the couple's isolation, and adding an atmospheric feel. An interesting psychological thriller, Wilderness is very highly recommended for those who favour morally ambiguous, tense, character-driven stories.
I can't wait to see what B.E. Jones writes next.

Olivia’s husband Will is a cheating bastard. I’m really sorry, pardon my French and all that, but he is. He has forgotten that when he took Olivia for his lawful wife and promised to have and hold her for better or worse, it was only supposed to be Olivia, he was not supposed to add some skinny girl at work to the mix. Liv found out, was furious but decided to give the hubby and her marriage a second change. Except that the hubby went and forgot all about his promises all over again and now… Well, Liv has had it and who can blame her?! It’s said that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and Liv is that woman if ever there was one. While she’s going through various stages of grief, feeling like the Will she knows and loves is gone, she eventually realises getting over her grief would be a lot easier if he was actually gone for real. And she starts to think that maybe she could help fate a little with that. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time she exacts revenge. But a little wrath goes a long way, sometimes a much longer way than anyone could foresee…
I loved Olivia as a character. Yes, she’s so furious that she spends half her time seething and plotting and calling both her husband and his mistress names whenever she thinks about them (which is pretty much constantly), but I couldn’t really blame her. The more I found out about her though, the more I began to suspect that she has perhaps a bit of a psychopathic mind. I felt I could never quite grasp her true nature and it had me tapping my e-reader as fast as I could. Liv as a character really carries this story, and it’s trying to figure her out as much as the suspense in the story itself that made Wilderness a very enjoyable read for me. One definite WTF moment there as well; you may all see it coming, if so then kudos to you, but I sure didn’t. I had stopped reading at a pivotal point in the story and I thought I knew what had happened and what would follow (so blasé, I know). The next day, I continued reading and found out that I had known diddly-squat! My jaw dropped and I went back to reread the previous chapter, had I missed something?! I hadn’t, Ms Jones had fooled me fair and square!
One last shout-out: I adored the setting! Ms Jones and her husband went on a road trip in South-West USA, it was where she got lots of ideas for Wilderness, and it really shows. The hubby and I have been on a similar road trip (for the record, neither Ms Jones nor I fantasised about offing our husbands!), and I recognised lots of what Olivia and Will encounter. The vivid (but to-the-point!) descriptions of the scenery, locations and situations brought back some very fond memories.
A suspenseful story in a gorgeous setting, recommended!

Despite having seen the television series, I still enjoyed reading the novel. It turns out that the adaptation was very close to the book and, even though I knew what was coming, I loved the twisty nature of the story, watching how far Liv is willing to take things.

A truly grippimg psychological suspense thriller. I have to admit this sat on My tbr pile for a long time before I got round to reading this book I should have read it sooner be cause I enjoyed t a lot. Recommend for all thriller loversThis book will have you on the edge of your seat. !

I loved this book. It does have a Gone Girl esque to it. I could relate to Olivia's frustrations in her relationship, although thankfully not the cheating element, nor do I have murder in mind! Well written, good tension, descriptions of the trip, I now want to go on an American road trip!

New York, bright city lights, the start of a new life, a new adventure but what if it’s not all what it’s supposed to be, what if your husband has an affair and your life starts to fall apart. That is precisely what happened to Liv and her husband Will, so what did they do to try and put their marriage back on track? Jones did what you wouldn’t really expect, putting them in the close confines of a car as they set out on the Great American Road Trip, the delights of El Capitan, Death Valley awaited their admiration and awe. Jones gave you some amazingly vivid descriptions of the landscape, but it wasn’t just the pictures that she conjured in your mind that drew your attention it was the tangible tension between Liv and Will that dominated.
Will desperate to make up for his misdemeanour, but more interestingly the inner thoughts and feelings of Liv. Yes she was the victim but how far would she go to make Will pay for his mistake?
Jones flipped between their time in New York and the events of the road trip. She built up a vivid picture of their marriage, their pasts, each a product of their upbringing. I loved that Jones threw these two opposites together, Liv from a troubled background, Will wealthy with all the advantages of life, almost as if she was setting them up to fail, to test if opposites could endure and succeed.
In a way they had succeeded yet there was a mysterious darkness that surrounded Liv and Jones made us question her motives and actions. I swung between liking and feeling sorry for her to a sometimes intense dislike at her cunning, and her anger at the untold havoc that descended on those she interacted with. It allowed Jones to showcase human emotion at its best and worst to brilliant effect. It showed a woman at her limit, pushing the boundaries to protect what she thought was hers and hers alone.
Wilderness wasn’t your usual fast paced psychological thriller with action on every page. Instead it had an intensity that was at times unbearable, the tension taut, poised to snap at any moment and Jones took you on a wonderful road trip where the sights and sounds were immensely appealing yet you wouldn’t for a million years wish to embark on if you were Liv and Will. It was a journey that I loved watching as a witness, as a witness to a marriage, an affair and its devastating consequences. You could never tell if Liv and Will’s marriage would survive or indeed if any of the characters would survive which made the novel highly intriguing and, for me addictive. I loved Jones’s last novel Halfway but loved this just that little bit more, a sure sign that her writing, and her plots are getting better and more accomplished.
If you like to uncover the psychology behind the characters then Wilderness is definitely a novel you need to read.
Will desperate to make up for his misdemeanour, but more interestingly the inner thoughts and feelings of Liv. Yes she was the victim but how far would she go to make Will pay for his mistake?
Jones flipped between their time in New York and the events of the road trip. She built up a vivid picture of their marriage, their pasts, each a product of their upbringing. I loved that Jones threw these two opposites together, Liv from a troubled background, Will wealthy with all the advantages of life, almost as if she was setting them up to fail, to test if opposites could endure and succeed.
In a way they had succeeded yet there was a mysterious darkness that surrounded Liv and Jones made us question her motives and actions. I swung between liking and feeling sorry for her to a sometimes intense dislike at her cunning, and her anger at the untold havoc that descended on those she interacted with. It allowed Jones to showcase human emotion at its best and worst to brilliant effect. It showed a woman at her limit, pushing the boundaries to protect what she thought was hers and hers alone.
Wilderness wasn’t your usual fast paced psychological thriller with action on every page. Instead it had an intensity that was at times unbearable, the tension taut, poised to snap at any moment and Jones took you on a wonderful road trip where the sights and sounds were immensely appealing yet you wouldn’t for a million years wish to embark on if you were Liv and Will. It was a journey that I loved watching as a witness, as a witness to a marriage, an affair and its devastating consequences. This book was brilliant, psychological thrillers can be such a hit or miss for me but Wilderness was exciting and engaging from the start until the end. I think it will very easily make it into my top ten for this year because every time I had to put it down I was desperate to pick it back up again.
There are a few things that work really well for this book, I think the subject matter is something that a lot of people can relate to, even if it hasn't happened to you personally most people have felt the effect of infidelity or broken trust in a relationship. This made it so easy for me to empathise with Liv because I could feel those same emotions, felt the pain and anger that she was going through and the insecurity and indecision. It definitely caught me on an emotional level in that respect, especially the paranoia and second-guessing Will's every move.
Liv herself is a great character, at first I could empathise with her and then as I got further into the story she kept surprising me with a new touch of information which shone a light on her in a completely different way. Even though she does go to extremes, I still found her a likeable and relatable character, I quite liked her devious side because it's not difficult to imagine someone getting to the stage that she does.
I really enjoyed the plotting of the book too, I won't say much about details because you'll want to read that for yourself, but the story goes back and forth between a trip that Liv and Will are taking to rekindle their relationship and the events that lead them to be at this stage. The way everything is revealed always gives you another perspective on what you have just read and on the next part of the story. It isn't big flashy twists that can sometimes leave you a bit let down, it's a lot more subtle than that it has a lot of pivotal moments that really feeds back into the rest of the story, making you desperate to read on to find out how everything is going to change next.
This is the first book I have read by this author but after reading Wilderness I can say with total certainty that it will not be the last.

Wilderness is a fantastic armchair adventure. It has got a wife seeking revenge in whatever way she deems plausible. A husband who is so guilt ridden be will do anything to please his wife. They embark on a dream roadtrip exploring America's famous national parks. But, the wife has other ideas.
Now I don't want to delve too much into the storyline because I don't want to give anything away and spoil it for you readers. The synopsis is a great taster of what lies ahead in Wilderness. And with this strapline on the cover:
"It's easy to die out there. It's easy to kill too."
You know you're in for a wild ride.
What I really enjoyed about Wilderness was the way Jones had brought to life the landscape and settings. With lack of travelling allowed in these uncertain times, I felt that I had had my own vacation from the comfort of my living room. We are whisked away to the busy city life of New York. Then on to the Nevada desert. It was also nice as a fellow welshie (did I mention Bev Jones the author is Welsh, not that I'm biased in any way) to spot and recognise references to places closer to home.
Jones has an uncanny talent of making the setting become a character in itself. The more devious and darker that Livs character becomes, the setting also becomes more hostile and dangerous. It blends well together, as a reader we don't know wether to worry what Liv will do, or what may accidentally occur out in the wild.
Wilderness has a past and present narrative that works well to develop the storyline and gives the reader a better understanding of Liv's character.
This is definitely a roadtrip you'll all want to take. But, be careful where you step. Who knows what or who may be lurking behind

This disturbing but gripping story unfolds through Liv’s eyes when she finds her dream chance at a new life in New York City shattered by her husband’s affair. Devastated and traumatised, she tries to give him a second chance but can she deal with the betrayal and its aftermath?
This isn’t so much a revenge story about a wronged woman as an exploration of the damage that betrayal and lies can cause to an individual and a relationship, as Liv questions what she thought was her happy marriage and tries to determine if one mistake should wipe out a committed partnership.
Of course Liv has trauma of her own in her past that she’s never dealt with, colouring her judgement, leading to a gripping journey of ‘will she, won’t she’ as their road trip and their lives unravel.

A fast-paced thriller with a definite psychological edge...and one that might have you watching your nearest and dearest very closely indeed.
The story seems fairly straightforward in some ways. Young married couple move to America. Husband has an affair with a co-worker. Wife finds out and decides to forgive him...but then organises a road trip to give her errant husband the chance to show he’s changed. Things aren’t going well, and it seems the wife is going to take the opportunity to remove her husband from the situation. But things don’t quite work out like that.
Our narrator, Liv, is definitely cut from a very special kind of cloth. As we learn more about her actions over time, I couldn’t believe she was still walking round free. A dangerous woman, but the level of her danger doesn’t really become clear until the end.
This is certainly a story it’s best not to know too much about before reading. It’s a fast-paced story and one that was certainly unsettling. There’s a lot of coincidences within the story, but it was still a good read.

Olivia and Will, a Welsh couple, living in America after he gets a job there. Olivia discovers he’s been unfaithful and so makes various plans for their road trip! Warning - do not upset Liv, you might not like the consequences. Loved this book from the very first sentence and ended up slowing down and rationing it simply because I didn’t want it to end! Brilliant descriptions of the vivid U S wilderness/New York, the weird, larger than life characters and especially Olivia who was amazing but not in a good way! A must read book, definitely. I was given this ARC by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wo fängt man da nur an? Ich habe das Buch nicht zu Ende gebracht, dafür war es zu unerträglich. In diesem Buch fehlt Spannung (vor allem wenn es ein Thriller sein soll), es fehlen gut geschriebene Personen. Die beiden Hauptcharakter sind so eindimensional, ich konnte es nicht ertragen. Vielleicht ist auch nur die deutsche Übersetzung sehr schlecht, aber alles in allem war das hier mit Abstand das langweiligste und schlechteste Buch aus meiner eigenen Leserfahrung. Zumindest etwas konnte das Buch scheinbar.

I've decided to give it a go since it will be shown on Prime in September. It felt like a less psycho version of Gone Girl. I think Will is a serial cheater and Olivia is just a psycho killer. I'm not particularly fond of books set in forests or the wild. This one was just an okay read, nothing too shocking.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book and the pace improved the second half just as I was tiring a little of the intensity of each paragraph. Each was written to approximately the same size, some could have been shortened or lengthened to improve the pace and each acted as it's own short chapter, ending with a cliffhanger. Which is great every now and again but when every single paragraph uses the exact same formula it becomes repetitive and I quickly lost my attention. Having a deficit in that arena makes it increasingly difficult for me to resist skimming when it wanes. The overall story is good but I didn't feel it matched the psychology of the protagonist, which meant the ending didn't ring true. She just didn't come across as a killer or nasty in any way. There's little dialogue in this book but lots of exposition which makes this a literary rather than psychological, thriller. All in all, a good original character-driven plot.

I think we’ve all been there, set off on a holiday with our other halves feeling the pressure for things to be perfect only for tensions to rise to the surface, though few of us have had this much deadly baggage!
A story about obsession and justifying our actions - the urge to lash out when we’ve been hurt or wronged. Though it’s hard to actually ‘like’ someone as damaged as Liv, I found myself on her side all the way despite that.
It’s definitely a case of ‘will she, won’t she’ as the story unfolds and flashes back to the happy days of their marriage and the aftermath of the affair. Kept me hooked all the way!

To start, the pacing of this book is difficult- nothing really happens in the first third of the story, and I would have dnf'ed if this wasn't for a book club. Characterization feels inconsistent throughout, and the plot hinges on a series of coincidences that border on the absurd. This book is relatively well-rated though, so maybe I'm the problem here.

Oh Olivia… you poor soul, taking back the man you love but who betrayed you… only for him to continue to prove the scum bag he is…but then again is testing your man without telling him fair? Especially as he doesn’t know everything?! Are you so perfect?!
I loved the way the story jumps from their make up roadtrip to NYC as Liv discovers the full extent of her husband’s infidelity. The imagery of the natural terrain of the road trip inspired my imagination as Liv and Will hiked through the national parks.
The more I got to know Will, the more I couldn’t make him out. He’s a dooshbag, a romantic, a worrier, a liar. Which one was really Will?!
As the story progressed, I started to feel less comfortable with all the characters. They all made me doubt them. But that’s the sign of a cracking psychological thriller. The unreliable characters. Who could I trust? Whose intentions were true?! What a road trip this was! If you like your psychological thrillers, I recommend giving Wilderness a try. It ticked all the boxes for me in its own dark and twisted way!

Hard to read with 40 adjectives in one paragraph and the main character going off on random thoughts that weren't pertinent to the story. Didn't like it. To much nonsense that were fillers I think.

This is going to be a hard book to review without giving away too much plot, but this book is a wild ride in so many different ways. From the narrator to the locations to the intertwined timelines, to the exploration of relationships, infidelity, how people react to it and whether we can really ever know the people we are with, there are so many amazing facets to this brilliant thriller.
The book is narrated by Liv, who has just found out that her husband, Will, has been having an affair. Her seemingly perfect life ripped apart, she decides that they will take a road trip to try and mend their marriage, exploring some of America’s beautiful National Parks. But does a trip in to the wilderness heal or expose the rifts in their relationship, and where does the greatest danger really lie. Liv is a fantastic character to lead the book. The quintessential unreliable narrator, Liv is a deeply flawed and troubled soul dealing with a situation that has rocked her world and it is immediately apparent that she may not be psychologically equipped to cope with what has happened to her, Throughout the book, as we dive backwards through the events surrounding the revelation of the affair, and forwards through Liv and Will’s road trip, all the layers of Liv’s psyche are peeled back, and more and more surprising facets of her character are revealed, so we are always on our toes and never know what to expect.
But Liv is not the only troubled character in this book, demons seem to haunt everyone, secrets are everywhere and it is impossible to know whose version of events to trust and who is telling the truth. The author builds up such a complex web of lies and deceit that, even the most heinous of characters end up with seemingly ‘reasonable’ justification for their immoral behaviour and one of the main questions becomes, who are the real bad guys here, and who amongst them deserves the consequences they end up suffering. Being able to make the reader feel some sympathy and solidarity with characters who are less than clean cut takes some skill, and is brilliantly done here.
The settings of the book really grabbed me too, and perfectly reflected the events taking place. The author makes the teeming city of New York and its vast skyscrapers feel both like a place where it is possible to hide and get lost in order to carry out nefarious deeds, uncaring and impersonal, and a tiny community where you cannot avoid the consequences of your actions at the same time. Then, when the couple hit the open roads of the American West, the vast empty landscapes are actually made to feel claustrophobic and menacing, because of the danger that lurks along every step. The book has an extremely oppressive atmosphere, which really ramps up the tension throughout. There was actually one point where, reading this in bed late at night, one of the WTF Moments (more later) happened, and I actually physically jumped, as I would when watching a scary scene in a movie. Making a book so vivid and immediate is a gift. This book is a joy for an armchair traveller, really bringing a sense of place to the narrative, albeit an ominous one at times.
There were so many themes in this book that are there for unpicking, I think it will reward multiple readings. How well do you know the ones we love? How well do we know ourselves? What are we capable of when under threat, and are we always looking in the right places for danger in our lives? This book has so many twists and turns, and so many things I did not see coming. Just when I thought I could see where things were going, the author spins us off on a completely different track and there was more than one point in the book where I was actually internally shouting, ‘WTF just happened?!!” at the pages. And the ending? OMG. This book is a fantastic and creepy thriller that I read in a single day and had to force myself to set aside in the wee small hours of the morning because I really did not want to put it down.
I absolutely loved this book, it was an extremely rewarding, edge-of-your-seat thriller that did not disappoint on any level. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Will and Olivia are attempting to establish themselves in their new lives in slick and sexy New York City! Will seems to fit right in. Work’s busy, and he’s loving life – just a little bit too much it seems. Olivia is struggling to find her feet in her new life. Not quite what she’s used to after a quieter pace in Wales. And when she discovers that Will has cheated on her … and lied to her … repeatedly, she has nothing to occupy her, other than to obsess about his indiscretion and the home-wrecker he’s gone behind her back with!
But she’s on her own, far from home. What’s a girl to do? She decides that rather than telling Will to leave, they should attempt to re-kindle their ruined marriage by going on an all-American road-trip. In typical male style (apologies to the non-cheating males reading this), he’s completely relieved, thinks that his affair (actually more than one) is forgotten and that they’ll just pick up and carry on where they left off, with everything being hunky-dory. In other words, he basically sweeps it all under the rug, and it’s ancient history.
Ummmm … no, that’s not quite what Olivia has in mind. She has other ideas: 3 tests for her good-for-nothing partner, and if he passes them, he gets to live. But if he doesn’t … he won’t be so lucky! The funny thing is, she doesn’t intend telling him that he’s being tested!
And so we delve into the deeply disturbed mind of an anxiety-ridden, twisted scorned wife! What lengths is she willing to go to to ensure that Will pays for his misdemeanours? This is a dark and chilling journey with a troubled, unstable soul. I felt uneasy throughout, and had a constant, irrational need to look over my shoulder! But just like that proverbial car wreck on the side of the road, I couldn’t tear myself away.
What would you do? In a similar situation … would you stay or would you walk away? Would you do whatever it took to exact your revenge? Would you spend your entire life bearing a grudge? Or would you ensure that you made the problem go away?

The men in Olivia’s life are just vile. In fact, most of our main players in this story don’t have many redeemable qualities yet I was still able to empathise deeply with our main character. Wilderness is an entertaining thriller that really gets you enraged at some points and is thought provoking at others. It’s a little different than your standard feminine rage/revenge story as Olivia is not quite the cunning femme fatale she might like to think she is! The authors weaves quite an intricate tale without the facts getting swallowed up in themselves and the twists are the kind that you can get involved with, puzzling them out as you move through the story. Exactly what I look for in a thriller. Let me play detective please.
Slow to get going it suddenly kicks in and the pace rolls along consistently with everything snowballing. It wrapped up a little too neatly for me, I like things a bit more open but I know I’m in the minority there. I’ll absolutely be tuning into the Prime adaptation of this as I’m really curious to see how it has been interpreted!

Anyone who can’t get enough of revenge and those who enjoy a sassy, entertaining, good old fashioned thriller with a fed up and flawed character (my favourite kind). This would make a perfect holiday read….just perhaps not for your partner 😱
