Luca Squared

Rate this book
The second edition of Luca is here. Grey Huffington has changed, rearranged, and added to the original version of the notorious book, Luca. After a full year run on the best-sellers chart, Luca is revived. He's BIGGER and BETTER.

She’s an angel.

And she doesn’t mind dancing with a demon .

That’s why I’d move mountains, dry seas, and hydrate the desert if it made her happy. She brought goodness to the world. It was only right that I made it hers, along with the two tiny beauties that shared her hazel eyes and perfect smile. For them, I’d do whatever. For them, I’d become whoever .

He’s a protector .

And, a far cry from the menace they’ve labeled him.

He’s just misunderstood. That’s why I’d climb the highest mountain, cross the widest seas, and conquer the desert if it brought us closer together. He brought so much wholesomeness to the world. It was only right that I made him a part of mine, along with my two minis that shared my story and sentiments. Because of him, we’d found happiness. Because of him, we’d found home.

Still amazing

Luca2 was still amazing. Although I knew how this story would end, it was still delightful to get the chance to hang with Luca and Ever again. That man loved this woman with his entire heart. Luca shows men how to be Real Men. I am so happy that Ever was able to make it past her sadness. Because she had the most amazing man and beautiful family who were willing to step in and be her backbone. She made it through the storm. Thank you, Grey, for shining a light on women's issues with grace and a realistic point of view in this story.

By far the best Love Story!! The way this book came together was so heartwarming. Patience, Determination, Dedication and Resilience made this story. Luca was a man about his word and about his love for family. Ever was about love and finding herself. Having both of these beautiful souls connecting made magic.

I truly love every bit for this book and if I don’t have a “Luca” I don’t want him lol 😆

Nothing on earth could have prepared me for how horrible this book was!

To start, this was instalove from hell—I already hate instalove, but Luca and Ever really took it to new (unbelievable) extremes! Within the first twenty minutes of him driving home he did not play about Ever, who was ASLEEP. He decided he wanted her before he even saw her full face. And when she wakes up, she is head over heels and wondering if this man who's killed a man is feeling her. GIRL!

Next, I'm glad Ever isn't my mom because although Luca seemed to turn out okay when it comes to whether you can trust him around children (I would not trust him around adult women who can say no to him), the quickness with which she let him be around her children, at times unsupervised, was downright tomfoolery. Even if you think a dude is decent, that is way too soon for your toddler and early elementary daughters who are leaving an abusive environment made so by their father! There is a difference between a father who steps up, and a man who bursts into the scene, punching walls and trying to pry heads off of bodies with their bare hands (this really happened) who slaps his chest and says "these are my kids now."

In the beginning, Ever and her girls are living with Lyric for free, and there's a scene where she's on her second bath of the day and has drained the tub three times just sitting there. Have some DECORUM!

Luca is a f r e a k (derogatory). Not only did he love bomb the ever-loving mess out of Ever, there were many, many times he sidestepped her boundaries or refused to take her stances seriously. Like, how did the dog end up sticking around just because Ever wanted to hurry up and blue skidoo up under Luca? He is extremely manipulative and strange and scary.

The entire first 60% of the book takes place in under four months of them meeting. 90% of that 60%, during the first week of them meeting. The last 40% of the book is lost to Luca and Ever's breeding kink and repetitive, jarring sex scenes where "Ummmmm" is written as a moan and Luca keeps talking about his semen and they have sex while their small children are unsupervised (and I do believe in one scene in Ever's novella the baby is IN THE BED WITH THEM (AND PERHAPS FEEDING—IT WAS TRULY UNCLEAR)!!!!!!!). Ever's ex is a caricature of a villain who says "If I can't have you, no one will!" like a Lifetime Movie Network scene reenactment. For how scary he is meant to be, he is neither ominous nor nefarious enough, and his actions were incredibly predictable to everyone except Ever and Luca, whose mind should be so much sharper than that if he really bout it, bout it.

Every single side character was the worst, even Ever's parents and Luca's entire family. Lyric is a bad friend, because why would you push your best friend to get up under your ex-con brother who hasn't adjusted to society when she's leaving an abusive relationship? And why all the commentary wondering if Luca and Ever were having good sex? YUCK.

The writing is extremely elementary, cringe, overly wordy, often unnatural, and flat-out not good. I kept hoping that even though I didn't quite love the writing that the story would redeem the experience, but nothing really happens in this book either. Ever leaves her abusive ex, falls under a love-bombing, controlling freak of nature within FORTY-EIGHT HOURS, and stays there until he drops fiftyleven more kids into her in a depressingly short amount of years. Speaking of, Ever's novella centers around her postpartum journey, and I felt like it was written so carelessly. Doctor's didn't work, so Luca takes Ever on a tropical location, sexes her up, and she's able to start to heal? JAIL!

I've read urban fiction for more years than I haven't. This was reminiscent of some of the worst I read in middle grade, and I cannot state that enough. This did not do what booktok/bookstagram said it would, in my opinion.

LUCA!!!!! Baby Luca was everything. This is the kind of love story I like. It was real black, real wealthy, real love, real hurt, real pain. This is my first Gray Huffington book but it definitely won’t be my last.

— I missed the Eisenberg family, so I was happy to visit them again. No one could ever make me hate Luca. That man treats Ever like the queen she is and loves her daughters like he birth them.

Luca, by Grey Huffington, is another one of those books that will keep you engaged from the first page until the last page. I first read this book last year and was pleasantly surprised to see that an enhanced version, titled Luca Squared, was recently released. Even though I knew the storyline, it was great to be reacquainted with the characters that started my love for the entire Eisenberg crew.

In short, the story centers around Ever and Luca who aren’t aware that they need each other until they meet. Both characters are looking for a new beginning and not necessarily looking for love at that moment, but one glance seals the deal. The story takes you on their journey as they get to know each other and let go of baggage from the past. However, some of that baggage shows up in their town and greatly tests their connection. Luca is definitely an alpha male and constantly demonstrate to Ever that he is the only man for her. Surrounding the couple is a village of family and friends that will do whatever is needed to support them. If you love a good alpha male character that embodies taking care of business and his family, then this is the book for you. If you are sensitive to certain topics, please pay attention to the disclaimers at the beginning of the book.

This book started my journey with the Eisenberg’s and their extended family, and they are one of my favorite book families. After reading this book get ready to binge on the rest of the Eisenbergs and their extended family. I can’t decide which sibling is my favorite, but Luca is definitely in the top half of my alpha male book leads. He is THE man!

I 100% prefer this edition over the first one. In this version of Luca and Ever’s story Grey adds more texture and details. She changes and adds a few things that help make the story more complete. The new ending is way more satisfying. I think it brings the story more full circle in a less forced kinda way. I appreciate her allowing Ever to explore and express her feelings more. I think this helps the book Luca connect with the Ever better since her sadness/depression doesn’t seem as random as it did before. My ONLY issue are inconsistencies and discontinuances in some of the scenes. Like in one scene Ever says she’s know Lyric for 10 years but in another Lyric says they’ve known each other for less or she describes Ever showing side boob in her romper but then writes that she’s putting on a bra. I think this is due to this just being an edited version of the 1st edition. Seems like you can tell where she just hopped in and added shit w/out paying attention to what all was going on before she threw extra shit into the mix. This isn’t a huge issue or hinders the story at all. I really really fuckin enjoyed this book. This will make my third time reading Luca and Ever’s story and I’m certain it won’t be my last. Major Comfort Book vibes over her!

P.S. I forgot how much the prologue drags. Them first few chapters of just Ever’s POV was a trek! That part didn’t need no shit added to it.

Started the Series off Just RIGHT

Luca came out the gate (no pun intended) showing who he was as a man. I’m sure Ever did not know she was getting herself into going with Lyric to pick up Luca. The fact that when Luca met one of Ever’s little girls, he knew he would take over being their Father. Whew child that spoke volumes. I loved that Ever and Luca balanced one another out, as much as Luca wanted to lead in a major way, he stepped back because he didn’t want to loose Ever. Them girl’s “daddy” deserved what was done to him because he really did way too much trying to get back at Ever. Lastly, the chapter’s regarding Ever battling postpartum depression was top tier! I was happy to see Ever come through it AND once again Luca showing who is a man standing by his wife through it! Okay, off to the other books of this series…

I wanted to love this book like a lot of you did … and in the beginning I was all in | but by the 50% mark I found myself bored with both Luca and Ever.

Their love story was to be inspired by and aspired for … but the storyline just became stale, thoughts and conversations were repetitive and I really only pushed through because I find myself interested in at least reading Lyric.

By the time I got to the Ella Portion I was just skimming the page just to get a feel of what the extra was about … needless to say I was not interested.

Even though I got tired of this book, the author did do a good job of making me interested enough in the other characters to continue with the series.

Lyric could be my last, or the one that pushes me forward with this author.

Additions We Didn't Know We Needed

Want to start by saying Happy 1 year to Luca! Before writing this book, Grey primarily wrote novellas and short stories, and I was so excited a book of this length was coming. Fast forward a year later, and these Eisenbergs have led us to the promise land forreal, lol.

I thought my favorite major additions to the original book were great because it wasn't until I read this version that I realized how important they are to the story. Don't expect a completely new or revised plot, because that's not what this is.

Some things moved around, some things added, some removed, but still the same five-star read.

Unfortunately I didn’t make it past the TW of this book 💀

I’ve heard loads about this book but there were a few immediate red flags for me. Who approved the format of the authors name on the original cover? Why is the male cover on Laike the exact same man on this cover but flipped and zoomed in? How can you include a general tw list instead of saying what the actual triggers in the book are??? Saying “here are some triggers that may or may not be included in this specific book” isn’t helpful at all. It’s honestly worse than not including a warning at all. So for now I’m gonna have to charge it but hopefully I come back at some point for this story 🤞🏾

I honestly don't understand how this book or the original book got so many 5 star reviews. This is my 1st Grey Huffington book and probably my last. I wish I had read this version and not the original. The extended prologue and extra chapter were fine, but to change details is weird. In the original book epilogue, the name change gift was a birthday present while pregnant with their 2nd child, but in this book, it was a wedding gift while pregnant with their 1st child. Also, when the events happened in the original epilogue, she was 6 months, but in this new anniversary edition, she's full term and goes into labor. In my opinion, it's disrespectful to the readers who are invested in these characters to change events like that.

Happy Anniversary Luca!

When I first started reading this book, I realized that it was basically the same book that I read before. But it did have a few tidbits in it that wasn’t in the first book. I loved it the first time that I read it and I enjoyed reading it this time. Luca and Ever were made for each other. I loved the way that Luca loved Ever and her girls unapologetically. He accepted them as his when he chose to date Ever. Very well written, flowed well and definitely kept my attention.

I read this book the first time it was released it and this newer version was just as good as the first time. I got lost in the emotions of Ever and Luca once again! They were so right for one another! How that man took on the responsibility of not only Ever but Essence and Emorey was so hot! He was a man's man and I loved it! Dewayne and Scar definitely got their karma served up on a silver platter, the message don't mess with The Eisenberg's effect! Loved it all over agsin! What a family, Lyric was that true friend! Keep up the great work Grey Huffington!

I read the original Luca like a year or two ago & this was my first time doing a reread or reading the updated version & honestly the story still hits. Luca & Evers story seems far fetched to a lot of people but in reality there are ppl who have insta love & are engaged and/or married within months of meeting each other. Some times when you know you just know. Luca immediately seen Ever & he knew he wanted her. It was more insta love for him than for her due to her trauma & history. Luca will always be a good man. He set the tone for the men that follows him in the huffington universe.

I loved Luca and Ever’s beautiful heart tugging Love story the first time I read it so I was very curious to see what Luca Squared was all about. Well all I can say I enjoyed it just as much. The author seems to have simply updated portions of the story providing a little more insight on Lucas attachment to Essence and Emory, and what happens when two additional children are added to the happy family. So basically same story with some up grades. Still an enjoyable read.

That’s a Good Man Savannah

I listened to Luca when I read it the first time a few months ago. This was my favorite book of the year so far. I been chasing the feeling this book gave me and so I couldn’t wait to read this edition. You made me love this couple all over again and then some with the addition of Ever. I had not read Ever before now and it was an amazing continuation that makes me want more of them.

4.5 stars!!!! The way Luca had me saying "My Man, My Man, My Man"! This was just an amazing read. It was a love story with pain, joy and love scenes that make your goddess tingle. The way he bent her over outside and then had her for dessert on the table. Gooood gawd!!!!! They way they both were able to overcome past pain to make their relationship work was just beautiful. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.

Luca and Ever….but Luuuuca!!!

This is my second time reading Luca, first time reading Luca Squared! Oh my heart!! So beautiful. Luca and Ever’s relationship progressed so beautifully. Grey has a way with words and a heart for romance for sure. This book was beautifully crafted. I love the reality of their story too. It’s life, and love and love in life.

a twist on the original

I enjoyed Luca Squared! The author was able to flush out a few more things in the plot and go deeper. I also appreciated that it was combined with Ever’s story. I would have given the story a higher rating but there were some misspellings and grammatical errors that impacted the smoothness of part of the sections.

I need this remix! The fact that I reread it like it was my first time says how good of a writer Grey is. The additions to the original story brought so much more understanding and conclusions that made the reread so much better. I think we need one for Lyric and Laike. Think about it Grey
