A fascinating biography of the life of Clary Palmer-Wilson who was born in Nairobi in 1907 and spent his incredible life as a hunter for 52 years in what was Tanganyika (now Tanzania). The book, written by his son, is refreshingly honest describing the ups and downs, family life, blunders, financial hardships, and struggles of trying to earn a living doing something he loved in a land he loved so much. Clary Palmer-Wilson worked hard to earn a living and support his family, trying various regular jobs but always returning to his beloved bush country and its flora and fauna. This is much more than simply a diary of various hunting exploits, though there are plenty of those, it tells the story of a man who loved the wilderness and the animals of his country and devoted his life working to be amongst them both as professional hunter and conservationist and a time that will never come again. Highly recommended!
