This is a creepy page-turner. Pol McShane’s dark well-written novel centers on a loving couple, Maggie Walts and Steve Penton, who go to Thunder, Texas, after the brutal death of Maggie’s mother. They discover the citizens of this small town, including her parents, are hiding a horrific ancient secret that very much includes Maggie and Steve and Maggie’s newly-learned pregnancy. No spoilers but a warning: readers will find when they look up from the novel at the objects around them that they recall the opening words – “Don’t touch anything!” Recommended.
