The old Tree by Tricia Martin It's summer and Mike has a new neighbor, Mari. He has been to the park many times and has seen something strange with the old tree. He starts discovering more about it and goes inside the tree where it appears to be huge inside-much larger than the outside depicts. He shares the secret with Mari and she also goes inside to investigate. An old family friend Bob has come to visit with her father and he's part of the old tree as well. They travel to his world and become acquainted with their ways and how to defend with things they are given. They meet many others, in different forms and follow their lead to the battle-to rid the world of evil. They are not to despair and must have hope to win all battles.. Mike loved his new adventure and can't wait for the next one... Loved the descriptions and the action involved.
Fans of C.S. Lewis will love this book. It is a great way to teach spiritual warfare to children. There is a part in it that symbolizes the crucifixion and another part that represents the Road to Emmaus. The book is well-written and the fantasy in it would appeal to children.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Old Tree story. I highly recommend this book to both young and not so young (adult) readers. Enjoy reading the whole Old Tree series.
Summer vacation had begun. Sitnaw (alien) greeted Mike. He wanted to know about the old tree. Mike went to see if Mari (neighbor) was home. Park He took her to see the old tree. She liked tennis, skiing, swimming, & bike riding.
Mike liked football. Justin (Mike’s BMF) was headed for basketball camp. In the old tree Mike & Mari were transformed into another dimensional kingdom. What did Mike & Mari find out about Joshua (mutual BMF) from a King? Herald was to train Mike & Mari in warfare.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great colored pictures & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s fantasy story book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s fantasy movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. It wasn’t as exciting as I hoped so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

This is one of several free eBook downloads that I've been putting off for far too long but my reading goal for 2021 is to catch up on my very long to-read list and at least make a dent in it. I picked this one first because it's so short and I'm all for a quick read as long as the quality makes up for the lack of quantity.
Anyway, I started this book without knowing what I was getting into. The bio clearly states, and I quote, "This is a children's fantasy adventure for ages seven to twelve." So with this in mind, I began reading. It didn't take me long to discover why it's geared for that age range. The writing style and the dialogue were very immature and at times a bit ridiculous. Now mind you, I'm not saying this in a negative way. I'm merely stating facts.
Then it happened. This very childish read slowly became (in my opinion) a watered-down version of Narnia. Talking animals, children being trained in battle, good vs evil, gifted weapons, Christian themes overflowing every page...all of it was there. As for the Christian themes, I believe they were well played and encouraging. The battles we (Christians) face are not of this world and must be dealt with on a spiritual level.
So overall, it wasn't a bad read. If you're going to read this, you must keep in mind the age range.

Whether young or younger still the Old Tree is a door into a mystical adventure where life isn't always as it appears to be and lessons are learned through overcoming. This book invites children to explore how decisions affect the world around and beyond them and it allows the childlike to re-embrace the realities of the once real but forgotten invisible realm. The Old Tree Series may very well be like a Chronicles of Narnia for this generation.
