Believe is the profoundly moving story of Eric LeGrand, the former defensive tackle for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights football team, who suffered a severe spinal cord injury and was left paralyzed by a crushing on-field tackle during a heated game with Army. A remarkable true account of a courageous young athlete whose unshakable faith, spirit, positive outlook, and rousing motto, “BELIEVE!” would serve as inspiration to legions of fans—and as motivation in his own quest to walk again—Eric’s story has received national attention, heavily covered by ESPN and Sports Illustrated. It will lift the hearts of every reader, not least of all those who were affected by quarterback Tim Tebow’s bestselling memoir, Through My Eyes.
This book is about a person named Eric who was paralyzed in a football game for Rutgers. This book was great because Eric never gave up and always believed that he would get back on the field.I recommend this book to anyone who has problems and needs motivation.
The book: Believe The Victorious Story Of Eric LeGrand: by Eric LeGrand is an inspirational story based on a true story. Eric LeGrand had an active childhood. He always was outdoors and playing with his friends. He liked many sports such baseball, football, and basketball. He played all of them and had fun doing it. His mom was always on the sideline cheering him on. Knowing that he enjoyed all those three sports, he has a favorite which is football. He loves the adrenaline that rushes through his body while he plays. Throughout his childhood, he kept playing the sport he loved. The month of October of 2010, he had an injury which changed his life. It was on a kickoff when one of the players from the college Army, trucked Eric which left him on the field hopeless until one of the medics came to help. He then later found out that he was paralyzed from the neck down. That turned his life around. The doctors said that he will never breathe without a ventilator. A month later, he can be able to breathe on himself for one hour and thirty minutes. He still believes that a miracle can come to give him the power to walk again. My personal opinion about this book is that it was really inspiring that he still has hope that he can walk again and try to keep a smile on his face for the ones around him. Overall, this book is well written and said throughout the book. I would recommend this book to most anyone who likes to read true stories about inspirational people overcoming challenges that they face in there life.
I think some of my students will like this book more than I do. It is an interesting memoir of growing up as a mostly normal kid in Colonia (Woodbridge Twp.), NJ with an unusual talent for football, and a strong work ethic that got him to Rutgers University on a football scholarship. Eric LeGrand's dream was to play in the NFL. When a spinal injury from a tackle in a Rutgers - Army game paralyzed him, his dream was rerouted, but through a combination of faith, positive attitude, hard work, and help from others, he has been able to realize his dream with unimagined modifications. This story is not great literature, but it is quickly and easily read, illustrates a variety of strong positive character traits, and may be motivational for aspiring athletes with or without significant obstacles to overcome.
This is a good book, It is an very inspirational story about a football player whose had some tough battles in his life. He became paralyzed during the middle of the game. He told us moments of when he thought about giving up and how he viewed his life as something that wasn't life anymore. He never gave up on himself and overcame obstacles and now he is happy with his life and making the best of it.
This true story is for anyone who loves football. I don't really understand football yet I still was moved by Eric's story of dedication to his goals. His drive to walk again after a cataclysmic injury inspires us all.
Amazing story! He has an amazing attitude and great support system behind him. As a book, it’s very “fluffy.” I feel like he doesn’t say what he really wants to say all the time and for that I deducted some but the story itself is great.
April Book Review Believe: The Victorious Story of Eric LeGrand Eric LeGrand This book was about the life of Eric LeGrand growing up and how he believed after his dangerous injury that heavily impacted his life. In this book the main character was Eric LeGrand he was a very smart, kind, athletic man who always tried his hardest and believed. In this book there were many events the first event talked about was him growing up as a child in New Jersey. He was always playing sports in grade school and did not care for school by not doing his homework and projects. Another event was when he started playing high school football he played three games with the varsity team as freshman and did so well that he got so many scholarship offers, but Eric ended up picking a full ride scholarship to Rutgers University. A very awful event happened in the story, it was the fourth quarter with a few minutes left a close game against Army, Eric was going in for a tackle and hit the opponents collarbone and became paralyzed. Since he was paralyzed his Rutgers coach felt devestated so in 2012 he signed Eric as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This book was filled with themes but there were a few that really stand out to me and i knew they were important. The first one was Believe, this is a theme because throughout the story Eric was believing before games and after he got hurt. Another theme was thank god for what he does. I knew this was a theme because Eric was wondering why he got paralyzed but then found out everything happens for a reason and he later got signed by the Buccaneers. These themes were very important for me to understand and think of.
Believe is a story about a young man named Eric LeGrand who was an outstanding athlete throughout high school and into college. His main sport was football but he loved both baseball and basketball. Growing up he lived with his mom and his dad didn't really have an impact on his life. He grew up poor but had a love for sports and the build for sports. Eric was always the biggest kid in his grade and he took advantage of his size by working hard at sports. Education never really was big to Eric and when he was little he could hardly pay attention in class and that was shown in his grades. Eric ended up getting tested and it was found that he had ADHD. After finding out that he had ADHD, his mom would give him rewards for doing good in school and in sports. His favorite reward was when he got Nike Hyperflights for doing good in school. He would also get stuff like cookies for hitting homeruns and scoring touchdowns. Eric's hard work payed off because he made the varsity football team as a freshman! This is the year that Rutgers offered him a scholarship to play football there. This was big news for him because he new he would be soon repaying his mother for everything that she did for him. His life ends up changing big time on October 16, 2010 on a hit that he made on an Army running back. To find out why he will never stop believing read the book, "Believe: The Victorious Story of Eric LeGrand." "Believe", is one of my favorite books I've ever read. I've seen Eric's story on things like ESPN and Sports Illustrated, and that's what made me want to read the book. By reading the book I found out a lot more about his child hood and about what he does to try to get better everyday. Eric has inspired a lot of people to keep fighting no matter what the situation. The plot is happy but sad at the same time, a poor super athletic kid makes his way out of a rough situation and then gets a life threatening injury but inspires other people along his road to recovery. The main theme of this novel is BELIEVE. Eric LeGrand has affected many people, one person he affected was Tim Tebow.Tim Tebow said that Eric was " My friend, one of my heroes, and a true inspiration." That shows what many people think of Eric. This novel is a biography written in chronological order from his childhood to present day. I hope that Eric recovers from his injury and keeps inspiring people all around the world.
Believe is truly a heartbreaking story that will leave you with tears at some points in the book. Those who love overcoming odds or tragic stories will love it, and of course football fans it it an amazing read it will even leave the die hard football fans crying. Believe is about hop for a miracle and how everyday Eric Legrand wakes up thinking maybe i can walk. The book explains how hard his mother who is his caregiver it is to take care of him. She has to constantly drop whatever she is doing for Eric. Eric's life was changed on a beautiful day in the middle of October in 2010. Eric had just made a huge sack which lead to his offense driving the ball in for six. He then when out for the kickoff team where he runs as fast as he cans and tackles whoever has the ball little did he know it would be his last tackle. Eric was confused and unable to move at all, he broke his spinal cord and was paralyzed from the neck down. That one very play changed his life. He does not let that beat him though he overcomes many odds and is still involved with football just in other ways. He fights on every day and one day he believes he will walk again. This book is an autobiography writtem in the young adult and adult categories, as well as sports and non fiction.
The people who would be most interested in this book would be sport fans. This book is about a football player, so that's the main thing, but it can also be for people who went through something tramtic. This story is great for people that went through, or are now going through something that seems impossible, and nothing can be done, but it can with believing.
My review of this book was that it was very inspirational. I have seen Eric in the news before, and I wondered about his story. Reading this book made his story known, and almost brought me to tears. Eric saw his darkest moment in life, and thought that all hope was lost. He thought that he would never be happy again, but out of this dark hole, he finds the light. Through his book, he talks about his life before the accident, and after, and how he lives his life to the fullest.
Believe is an inspiring story about a young man named Eric LeGrand. He was an avid football player that always just wanted to be helping his team. Eric started playing football at a young age, and always loved the game with a passion, until he suffered a serious spinal injury during a football game in college. It made him paralysed from his neck down, and ever since, he's kept on believing that he'll return stronger. This book was a great book about determination and believing. It had a very good theme, and was written well. Anyone who enjoys books about football, or determination will enjoy this novel.
True story of Eric LeGrand, a football player for Rutgers who was paralyzed after a bad hit. His story sounds like a Cinderella story up to the moment where he is injured. He is raised by a single mom in tough circumstances but his football abilities open the door to a better life. All that comes to crashing halt with his injury. LeGrand doesn't want pity. He uses his injury to inspire others. He is grateful to be alive.
Believe is a book about a guy named Eric LeGrand and his life before and after he gets paralyzed in a college football game. I like Believe because I get to know what kind of life he lived and I got to read about all the cool stuff he did related to football. I suggest this book to people who like football or sports books.
The book I read for marking period three was Believe The Victorious Story of Eric LeGrand by: Eric Legrand and Mike Yorkey. Eric LeGrand played defensive tackle for Rutgers University ‘s football team and grew up in Avenel, New Jersey. He was paralyzed on a kickoff in one the games which ended his career. Mike Yorkey is a popular author who has wrote over seventy-five books and has wrote many of books with other people. The historical/geographical context in the books includes many quotes and facts from Legrand and his team. The books takes the reader through LeGrand's journey of being paralyzed and before that. The plot ends being much different than most people expected it to be. In a game in 2010 against Army LeGrand was paralyzed from the neck down. LeGrand was an athlete that everybody loved and an outstanding teammate. However, he believed the year after himself being paralyzed was the greatest of his life. He now has a college education, has been teaching others about his experience, and has pursued a career in broadcasting. A theme the book addresses is One Should Not Give Up on His Dreams. LeGrand knew he was not going to play NFL football, and the main reason he was at Rutgers was to get a education and he did. Another theme the book addresses is Educate Others Under All Conditions. LeGrand was in the worst condition, and most people who are paralyzed would probably never do what he did. However, LeGrand continues to educate others on how to conquer everyday problems. The style in which the book is written is first person, and very serious. LeGrand goes through some very hard times and gets into the situations very well. The reason I picked up the book and choose to read it was because my older sister goes to Rutgers. Also, I heard about the Eric LeGrand story but did not really know about the details of what occurred. Consequently, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to read the book. My impression and rationale with the book was very deep. At sometimes, the book was very sad and just made me feel very sorry. On the other hand, at other points I felt extremely excited for LeGrand since he was able to turn his life back around. The types of readers that would enjoy the novel are people who are very patient. LeGrand goes into different moments of his wild journey and it can be slow at times since he explains in so much detail. People who would not enjoy this book a lot would be the readers who are all about excitement and an up-down plot.
