When a homeless young omega comes by Burke’s pub asking for work, Burke doesn’t have the heart to send him away. He lets the boy help with some chores in exchange for food, and soon, Emerson’s visits become regular. Then one frosty December night, the boy keeps his head down, hiding in a corner until closing time and looking like he wants to disappear into the ground. Emerson is about to go into heat, and he has nowhere to hide.
People say Burke is ugly and scary, but Emerson has never been afraid of the burly pub owner. The big alpha has scars down the side of his face, but so what? He must have been in a lot of pain once, poor man. When snow covers Dalton City, and Emerson realizes he’s only days away from his first heat, his feet carry him to the pub by themselves. Burke is the only alpha Emerson trusts not to hurt him. And given the choice between freezing to death or getting abused, Emerson would much rather offer himself to Burke.
Except Burke is probably the nicest man in the entire city. Stunned, Emerson finds himself safe and warm during the snowstorm, without having to sacrifice anything. Maybe he’s even a little bit in love with his rescuer.

I need to make a shelf called Hell yes, Roe Horvat because every time I finish one of his books my mind does a Baaaazingggaaaa eye-bulging, sex cartoon animation thing. This book is HELLA hot, yet it also manages to be super sweet. How??? Just How??

I've read a bunch of omegaverse books from a few authors, and I can be a bit hit or miss, but Roe Horvat is hit almost all the time. Seriously, the perfect blend of sugary sweet yet insanely spicy. Amazing.

I loved everything about this book. Yes, it's mostly just sex but it's good sex. I couldn't stop reading it, and I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to finish. I adored the age gap, the scarred male MC, the dynamics and how they couldn't get enough of each other. I loved it all. Plus, heat books are super sexy, so this was just next level for me.

My first favorite of 2022, Ugly is a winner for when you need something next level erotic.

Absolutely perfect: angst, romance, size kink, age gap, pain/comfort, and holy-hell-I-need-a-cold-shower NSFW sexy scenes!

I love both MCs so hard.

Emerson has been homeless since age 15; at 19, he's weary and scrappy. But he hasn't lost all hope, not when men like Burke exist.

Burke has been letting Emerson take out the trash at his pub in exchange for burgers. The garbage bags are bigger than Emerson, so it's not a great deal for Burke, but that's the kind of guy he is.

Burke is big, broad, and has scars on one side of his face. He looks mean, but he's a gentle giant.

That's why Emerson asks if Burke would let him stay for the duration of Emerson's heat; it's why he asks Burke to be his first.

The tenderness and love between Emerson and Burke overflow. The story focuses heavily on the emotional and sexual connection the men share, but there is a side plot involving the cook at Burke's pub who takes an instant dislike to Emerson.

Of course, Ugly is salacious as hell, but it's much more than that. It's romantic and poignant. It speaks to loneliness and despair, to dreams and promises and forever.

I read it in one sitting, ignoring real life, and am not even a little sorry.

Another hit entry in his omegaverse from Roe, Ugly manages to be the sweetest romance ever while raising the lid as one of the hottest.

The dirty talk in this book is exceptional and I felt every bit of the scorching heat between the shy teenage Emmerson and scared and lonely Burke.

The plot is simple, no need to over-egg the pudding, and I adored watching Burke open up as he realised Emmerson was there for him because he made him feel safe.

Emmerson also realises he's a bit of a size queen after Burke nurtures him through his first heat with not only kindness but also some ridiculous, pants meltingly hot sex 😁

Really loved this one and I'm hoping there may have been small hints for who else might be getting a book (Richard and Kirby please Roe if you'd be so kind!)

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

I take it back, Roe plays Erotica like a guitar and he writes his smut into the most gorgeous melody I've heard.

“Can’t help it,” I whispered, letting my words flow uncensored. I told him the truth. “I’m glad that I’m little and that you’re so big. Your cock takes over my whole body, and then nothing else matters. Will you breed me again? Please, Burke.”
He hummed into my ear, and the vibrations traveled all the way into my guts. “I will. I’ll fuck your womb open until my old cum leaks out of you, and then I’ll give you a fresh load. I’ll take care of your hole, my little Emerson. I’ll fuck you long and hard and keep you stuffed full.”

Quirky tropes:
💟 Omegaverse
💟 Age gap
💟 Size kink
💟 Protective alpha
💟 Homeless and utterly pure omega
🌶️🌶️🌶️ Spicy as HELL (although not AS raunchy as his previous books)

I honestly don't have much to say about this steamy book other than I had so much fun and delight reading it. I adore our MCs of this book, they're such ✨ soft bois ✨ it makes me heart MELT okay

It’s the worst combination I know—I’m cold, hungry, and afraid.

Emerson's past with how he was homeless and how he fought for his survival day in day out was truly devastating but his resolution at the end? 🤧 Tears of joy.
“It was weird. There was this day, a moment really, when I realized I’m in it alone. That no one has my back, and it’s all up to me, you know?”

And Burke's struggle of acceptance with the scars tattooed to his face and his body, the reminders of his pain every time he looked at the mirror, I just want to give big guy a hug OKAY.
Over that time, I hadn’t even thought of having a mate. I’d just assumed that some parts of my existence were over.

Ugk, I have no words to say other than this won't be my last Roe 😏😌

Revisiting my very first Roe Horvat book. And you see that first quote down below? Hell, that scene wrecked my heart once again.

4**** lovely stars

Awwww, this was so freaking cute! ♡ And I really love that cover.

“I’m a virgin. I swear. […] You can have me.
A virgin in heat, that’s good, right? Just let me stay. Please?”

Sweet nineteen year old, homeless, omega boy Emerson seemed so lost, afraid and desperate at the beginning I was on and about to climb between the pages to feed him, give him a warm place to stay and squeeze (like hug) the ever loving fuck out of him. Not that I would’ve been of much help to him with his first heat coming up AT ALL* lol, but the urge was there.

Fortunately there was no need for my interference because Burke was there to take care of the matter as well as of Emerson. It was a total sex fest. But with a very cute story around it. I really enjoyed reading it.

“It feels like you’re mine, little one,” ...
“Because I am. You’re my alpha. My mate. And I love you.”

Admitted, the Omegaverse always weirds me out a little (at least when it’s MM only and there are no females). Males that get pregnant and giving birth, holes that get slick and wet on their own and terms like heats, knotting, breeding, chestfeeding… and the whole alpha/omega (and sometimes beta) society. But somehow I like it.

I LOVE ME A SIZE DIFF okay, CATCH ME INSIDE BEING HORNY FOR A SIZE DIFF ANY DAY ENDING IN 'Y' BUT HOLY FUCK, WE GET IT BRO????

We get it, he's little and you're big.... HE'S TINY AND YOU HAVE A BIG FAT DI-
We get it....

The word is "little" used 112 times in a book with 188 pages........
37 x "small"
21 x "tiny"
Yes, some of these were maybe used in a different context than to Emerson's size, but majority of them was not.
The 'my boy' and 'little one' borders on age play vibes, which isn't my thing and yes, they are age gap, but Emerson is just 19... he's practically still a homeless teenager/child.,

NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG, THE SMUT WAS SMUTTING.🌶️🔥🥵
I give this 3 stars alone for the smut, and would consider this a good 3 star overall.
They fuck ALOT.. Like the whole book after 25%... ALOT.
There are some feelings, and then it gets too lovey dovey oopy goopy at the end for me but that's fine. I'm happy Emerson isn't homeless no more?

But like, I struggle to find the line, between the "Hurt/comfort" trope and "Saviour complex/...whatever the opposite is? Victim? Person in need? Someone who's weak/broken?" because is this real love? or is this... no one ever been nice to emerson in his whole life and someone has now shown him the bare minimum of human deceny and he's like... MY MATE 😍 ??????

I also struggle with "my ass was really loose these days" as a sentence. The word loose, is used very loosely used..... this whole book...... like it doesn’t have to be tight but why does the description make me feel like it’s about to start flapping in the wind!?! 🚩

But ya know, this was SLICKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY AF TIME.
But hey, that's why we are here most of the time right???
Don't you lie to me... heheheh 🤭
This is a good A/B/O if your new I think, and want to see what it's all about.
Breeding men and getting men pregnant and knotted.
🙏 Amen! 🙏

In short, Roe’s delivered what he promised😋

• Omegaverse, non-shifter
• Homeless MC in heat
• Size difference kink, breed kink
• Hurt-comfort
• Age gap
• Scarred MC
• Mpreg
• Low angst
• HEA
• Standalone ( or first book in a series?)

Roe Horvat is the master of omegaverse- in heat stories. Ugly is one of the hottest books I’ve ever read. Kinky, dirty talk, toys etc and on the other hand they are sweet and tender too.
In this book is so much more than hot smut, there is a great plot, a sweet romance. Emerson is shy and lovely and so ducking alone in the world. Still he hopes, and trusting Burke in the most hopeless period in his life.
Burke is awesome, big terrifying alpha with a soft heart for Emerson from the first look, possessive, dominant, but his top priority is the lovely small omega with huge green eyes. Awwwww
The story firstly focusing on the heat “problem”😉 but along the way they build something beautiful and special bond.
I’m huge fan of the homeless MCs and Emerson character was written well. I loved that Burke lives a modest life and the author didn’t make the poor-millionaire comparison here. This was perfect, well balanced book with beautiful writing and the hottest hotness 🔥🔥🔥

I received an ARC from the Author in return for an honest review.

3.5 stars ⭐️ No one could ever write omegaverse stories as Roe Horvat does. This story was super sweet and can read quickly.

Even though Burke has ugly scars on his outside, on the inside he was the sweetest and nicest person Emerson had ever met. Emerson was vulnerable and fragile when he met Burke. But I loved how he didn't care about Burke's scars and loved him fearlessly.
Burke and Emerson were so great together! I liked both of them.

But I don't understand why Roe added Mark’s scene. I think it's not necessary to the story.

I can't wait to read Kirby’s story if there will be one!

Roe Horvat continues his stunning series of MPreg romances with Ugly. This is a unique and beautifully structured Omegaverse, and, filled with some of Horvat’s best erotica, the couples find their thoroughly satisfying happily ever afters. Each of these novels can be read as a standalone, and in any order. So it doesn’t matter which one you begin with… just pick one, and get started!

Horrifically scarred on the outside, Burke has resigned himself to being unlovable, and given up hope of finding true happiness. Abused and neglected, desperate for any kindness, Emerson is filled with self-doubt. His insecurity is heartbreaking. Truly, Roe Horvat can build gloriously desperate longing better than any author I know. This is a wonderfully, perfectly, tragic pair.

In addition to their appealing chemistry, Burke and Emerson are sparkling-hot firecrackers between the sheets. The way Mr. Horvat builds the trust between these two, their intimacy increasing with every encounter, is simply outstanding! By the time the men let down their walls and openly express their deepest desires, I was one step away from bursting into flames. Size kink has never been so hot!

Every aspect of Horvat’s Dalton City is fascinating, and I’ve got my fingers crossed a romance between sassy Kirby and jaded Richard is up next.

Hot, Sexy & Dirty!

This was a fun novella 😍
It went a little like this:

I’m hungry and cold, says the young, little omega
I’m willing to do anything for a safe space, please he says
I’m willing to give you my first heat, he begs
No, says the huge alpha with the scars
I’ll do anything you want
No, but you can stay here
Here are some plugs that will help you
Ooohhhh, says the omega virgin
***forced proximity stuff and scents drive them both lusty***
They have sex
Dirty talk
They knot
They rest
They have sex
Dirty talk
They knot
They rest
They have more sex and more knots and lots more dirty talk
Uh oh, says the alpha
I need you
Mmmmmm, says the omega with a belly full of c**.
Some mild drama (inconsequential)
More breeding sex
More knotting
Love stuff
Size kink stuff
Dirty talk
MPREG
HEA

Just a bit of angst, a lot of insecurity, but this virgin omega and scarred hulking alpha worked for me!

Told in dual POV, 1st person, it’s the first installment in the "Winter Sun" series but can be read as a standalone. This story wasn’t my cup of tea Aside from that the plot didn’t have anything to say. If you’re going for a deep strong story line, you should skip it or read it only for your entertainment. For the romance part, it didn’t work out for me because it was only based on Emerson’s heat. All in all, it was a disappointment but hope you enjoy it more than me!

All other omegaverse authors may as well pack it in now, because Horvat has this shit on lock!!!

I enjoyed this intro to the Winter Sun series very much, warming easily to our romantic leads, nineteen-year-old, homeless omega Emerson, and fairly older, physically-scarred, gentle-giant alpha and pub-owner Burke.

These two were like fire together! Simmering in their immediate chemistry, and then burning hot and heavy when they gave into their urges, as Burke helped Emerson through his first intense heat.

It’s smutty, YES! So, so smutty! But, because it’s Horvat, there is also an actual plot, with three-dimensional characters, and actual relationship development…even amongst all the delicious smuttiness.

I loved Emerson and Burke’s bond. I loved the way they obviously adored each other, despite their shadowed pasts and perceived flaws. They fit so perfectly together, two halves of a whole.

I’m now an eager beaver to read book two (and hopefully more to come beyond that)!

* 4 stars *

Emerson is a young, homeless guy who seeks shelter a few evenings every week at Burke's pub. One night, though, he's more reluctant to leave than ever before, and it's not difficult for Burke to smell the reason why.

Burke runs his pub by himself and lives above it, so he doesn't have much free time. An accident that he had a few years back resulted in one-half of his face being left marred by a web of scars. In fact, his accident resulted in half his body being covered in scars, and that, along with his big frame, intimidates strangers. So he's used to people giving him a wide berth even though they have nothing to fear from him.

When he offers Emerson shelter for the duration of his heat, Emerson, even though he's grateful for it, initially believes that the offer comes with stipulations. Burke clarifies that he's not expecting anything in return and does his best to make Emerson feel comfortable.

Emerson, charmed by him and attracted to the pub owner, decides that he wants to spend his heat with him.

The book's first half takes place during Emerson's heat, the same as the rest of the books in this series. But, just like the other books, there are also many sweet moments where they communicate and connect with each other. They get to know each other and start developing feelings while at the same time they have to deal with the outside world and the people around them.

I liked the way Emerson saw Burke. How he didn't judge him based on his physical appearance but on his behavior. He wasn't prejudiced and didn't let the scars shadow who the man truly was.

Burke was a gentle giant. He was sweet and caring. Burke was always willing to provide Emerson with a safe place. He didn't hesitate to offer him anything he could think of to make him comfortable.

I'm glad that there were more side characters than usual this time. I liked the mc's friends and some of the pub's employees, all of whom provided some great scenes and I hope we'll see at least some of them again.

I love Horvat, and this is another one of his books with warmth and hot scenes. And I liked that. Also that Emerson was expressive and open to say things. 🤗
But I couldn't connect with the mcs, and there is a conflict with a character, which really seemed super unnecessary and made me grimace because dude, where did that come from? 🤧
I think this is the first book by Horvat that I didn't love it, hopefully it will not be repeated😓
Hope you enjoy it more than me if you read it! 🤗

Fucking hell, the author’s source of inspiration seems inexhaustible, this deliciously written story is super sexy and sweet.
A big ‘ugly’ (read: amazing beautiful) alpha and an utterly vulnerable homeless young omega.
Spending a first heat together, it’s a scorching HOT period, with the most precious promises.
Watch the aftermath, applause!!
This author writes the most satisfying erotic romances, with the most wonderful characters, lots of mouthwatering sex, nonstop arousing af, not one act is repetitive, some palpable hurt comfort, and mountains of unconditional love, dedication, and protectiveness. VERY SATISFYING!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
Format: ebook

Absolutely adored this. Had a lot more plot than Milk but the spice was still front and center which I loved.

Emerson and Burke were such beautiful characters and I loved the progression of their relationship, even if it was fast. It was still so sweet and I just really liked them together.

The hurt/comfort aspects of this book were perfect, for both characters. I enjoyed that they both had their turns caring for each other. I also loved the little bit of drama with Mark.

Yes, just yes. I begrudgingly have to finish my other books before I continue on with this series but I’ll be using the next book of the Winter Sun series as a reward for finishing those.

My favorite from Roe Horvat's Omegaverse since Precious. Loved Emerson and Burke and that both had a story to tell. Obviously, it was hot. But steam was just a tip of the iceberg. The foundation is built on intimacy, consent, trust, falling in love. Such a wholesome story with some Beauty and the Beast vibe and deep connection between MCs.

Woah baby. Excuse me while I go read everything this author has wrote. I enjoyed this a lot. I am very new to the A/B/O trope, but I am a new fan. Side note though: in this world, is there no women? Is it all men and the omegas are the ones who can carry babies? It didn’t matter to me, I am just trying to figure it out.

In this book, Emerson is going through his first heat. He is a homeless 19 year old, and he is scared because he doesn’t want someone to take advantage of him in that state. He asks Burke, the sweet pub owner who has fed him burgers for the past 3 months, if he will help him through his heat. Burke offers him a room to stay safe, but he tells Emerson that no exchange is necessary for his safety. We LOVE Burke. Eventually the heat becomes too much for Emerson, and he basically begs Burke to have sex with him. This wasn’t just because Emerson was desperate. He actually cared for the big, burly alpha. And Burke couldn’t resist the sweet, pretty boy who he also liked. And then the 10 day heat of scorching hot sex commenced.

I am kinda finicky about sex in books. Too little sex, and I am bored. Too much sex, I am also bored. This was perfect. There was enough sex and enough plot that made me extremely happy, and I devoured this at once. I enjoyed a lot of the characters in this book, so I am excited to continue this series.

If you are a fan of non-shifter alphas and omegas, heats, knotting, mpreg, etc give this a go!!!!

I'd heard a lot of great things about Horvat and his omegaverse, so I thought it was about time for me to try one of his books.

Deep regret does not even begin to cover my decision to read this.

I was told it was sappy and emotional, but for me I saw no actual believable emotional connection. I felt like the book wanted to interpret relentless dick into feelings and I could not buy into that. The alleged bond is 100% heat hormone based, and that is not enough for me here since there's nothing else to build on. Zero sap.

The only actual bond here is Mark the cook doing...something? I'm not really even sure what. He doesn't matter at all, in or out of the book, but that's the plot.

The writing definitely did not work for me, which probably exacerbated the lack of romance I felt. It was extremely repetitive and simplistic, which made it a really boring read. I skimmed a lot since it was the same thing over and over again.

Overall, this was a surprising disappointment, given the expectations I'd had for it. It's possible the high expectations led to my unexpectedly deep dislike with how it actually was for me to read. Either way, I don't think I'll be trying anything else by this author.

This was so adorable and sweet and sexy.

This does have mpreg, just at the very end in the epilogue, so if you don't like mpreg, it's up to you on whether you want to read this. And even though Emerson doesn't truly get pregnant until the end, this is still an omegaverse, and a good portion of this is spent while Emerson is in heat, with Burke, his alpha.

So there is all that, and there is talk of getting Emerson pregnant as well, dirty talk, and a fantasy/dream as well with him pregnant. So even when he isn't pregnant, mpreg is still fairly, somewhat present. So again, up to the reader on if they like mpreg, are okay with it, or just can't handle it.

If you can handle it/like/love it, then I highly recommend this. It was, as I'd hoped well written.

Emerson was just so sweet, and so was Burke. They were both sweet, but Emerson was sweet in adorable way, while Burke was sweet in a nurturing, caring way.

I do kind of wish that less time had been spent on the smut and a little more on their romance. It was there, but not as much of a build up as I would have liked. Because they go fairly quickly from being acquaintances and kind of friends, or really just a safe place for Emerson to come for 3 months, to being together during Emerson's heat, to being in love.

Now they were so sweet and adorable together, and Burke was so gentle and kind to Emerson, and the connection was certainly there, no doubt about it, but I just wish the transition from liking/being attracted to each other to being full on in love with each other had taken a little more time. It just happened a little fast.

But other than that, I did love this.

Burke is an almost 40 - or 40 exactly, wasn't sure - pub owner, and Emerson is a 19 year old homeless boy who has been coming to Burke's as a temporary refuge, a safe place when things get tough, or the whether is shitty, and he doesn't have a place to stay.

When he's going to go into heat, he doesn't leave Burke's pub because he's scared of what would happen to him if he went to the homeless shelter, which would either turn him away as an omega having his first heat, or give him to a heat club where he'd be heat raped by many...he doesn't want that, obviously, and when he tells Burke about this, Burke offers to let him stay, to have a comfortable, safe place to stay during his heat.

Burke is kind and doesn't touch Emerson, and tries to keep his distance, even as Emerson's growing heat hormones gets to him.

Eventually, when Emerson asks Burke to take him during his heat, almost begs for it, Burke gives in. But he waited until Emerson told him he wanted it, asked him to fuck him. Other alphas wouldn't have.

I enjoyed this. The sex was hot and sexy, and these two were definitely cute together, and despite the age difference, they just worked together. Emerson was also just so kind and sweet, and had such a good heart, that even though he is young, he able to be on even footing with Burke, who is twice his age.

I'd recommend this if you like omegaverse and mpreg. It was one of the strongest published mpregs that I've read, even if the actual mpreg came at the end. The omegaverse was still there throughout this and a forefront in the story.

So overall, a definite win for me. Two thumbs up from me! If you want to read an age-gap, omegaverse non-shifter mpreg story that involves heats and breeding and the like, then definitely pick this one up. It's a good one! <3

[4.5] ugh i really liked this pair

the plot is fairly simple in comparison to Roe Horvat's other omegaverse installments, but i personally enjoy these less dramatic plots during the holiday season because my emotional capacity to deal with excess melodrama is ✨null✨. size kink, role reversals (this time not the "in bed" kind 😆), unconventional beauty, and HOT HOT HOT SMEXYTIMES~

a heads up for any omegaverse newcomers: this book contains more detailed descriptions of mpreg as well as some on-page depiction.

sooooo can we expect Kirby and Richard to be next??? 👀👀

Nobody writes like Roe Horvat. His stories are not only compelling his characters are relatable and the spicy scenes are unlike anything I have come across in the omegaverse.

Burke is the kind of character I am immediately drawn to. Scarred, but oh so gentle. No one can see anything but the giant man with the scarred face and body until that one person. In this case, Emerson.

A boy with a past trying to escape the harsh winter flees to the one place where he has ever received any kindness. The pub with the beautiful, scarred man who has done more for him than anyone but his best friend. When his first heat hits he expects to be left to his own devices, but Burke can't stay away. Before either of them knows it there is more involved than just getting Emerson through his heat.

As with most omegaverse stories this was a fast passed instalove story with more than enough heat in more than one way. *WINK WINK*
