I met Babes when I was 5 years old- I remember her being so wonderful. She provided me with a signed copy of her book- at the time I was too young to understand. I pulled this book out two years ago (25+ years later) and I feel so blessed to have met woman so brave! It turns out we lived in the same neighborhood where she was during the war. It was hard to believe all the events that took place right in our own backyard. Truly an amazing book and person!

This is an excellent book that gives a detailed firsthand account of life in northern Holland during WWII under Nazi occupation. The horrific conditions under which the Dutch had to live during this time aren’t widely known. The author gives a riveting recounting of her life and that of family and friends under these deplorable living conditions along with efforts by the Dutch Resistance to combat the Nazis.

Incredible story. I would pray that I would be so brave, but I doubt it. Thank God for these heroes!
