I still enjoyed this, though it might have been a step down compared to previous volumes.
The plot involving the church coup has progressed, but didn't reach a conclusion. I have a hard time finding what you might call the Goldilocks Zone when it comes to Light Novels. Some stories breeze too quickly through the early game as I call it, which I tend to enjoy the most, and then other series will drown in the swamps of early sidequests and go in plot circles without ever giving a sense of progress. It's difficult to find a story that walks line and finds balance.
This story has pushed through the enjoyable early game worldbuilding very quickly, but hasn't provided too many payoffs for the overall storyline. This is mostly a symptom of being so ridiculously short. I know Light Novels have page limits, but that's not the problem here as the Epilogue and Side Story chapters began at the 75% mark on my Kindle!
For a book that's only 200 pages, that means only 150 pages were committed to the actual story. That by itself isn't a problem, but it makes it a little more frustrating when the story doesn't knock my socks off. This volume specifically had a couple plot contrivances that were a little annoying.
That being said, the story still does a good job of providing that nostalgic feeling of grinding levels and running dungeon raids. I will most likely read Book 4 and then have to make a decision whether the series is giving enough bang for the buck to continue.
This series has quickly become a favourite - from the first volume, honestly. And they just keep getting better!!!
I really hope the wait is not very long for the next book, considering this one just came out… my one solace is that this one was written a few years back but translated this month, so hopefully it won’t be too much of a wait for the next one to be translated.
Seriously an excellent series, one that hits upon so many of my favourite tropes/things & executed them wonderfully.
I picked up the first book...then read the second...then read the third..then got a J-novel membership and pre-paid for the fourth book so that I could read what chapters there were. Of course, this now leaves me with the knowledge that the series as a whole will probably go on for at least a few more volumes (altho possibly not too many from the way things are going)...but that that at least means months or years... -_- Ah well.
Charlotte, known as Sharon, manages to advance her job to Cleric. All she has to do is offer a prayer to the Goddess Flaudia and she gets a quest. Heal three people and she is a newly-minted Cleric.
The series is cute. Sharon overturns the common sense of the world she’s in by sharing her gaming knowledge.
Why is this book randomly high stake… this volume has a LOT of level grinding so it isn’t my favorite of the series so far, but the next arc looks so fun and promising, I’m excited!
More like a 4.25. Things are surely going to get intense from here on out, now that I'm done reading this. Good thing I got to read this series. There was never an annoying moment, at least for me.
