Shadow Slave: Book6

Rate this book
Growing up in poverty, Sunny never expected anything good from life. However, even he did not anticipate being chosen by the Nightmare Spell and becoming one of the Awakened - an elite group of people gifted with supernatural powers. Transported into a ruined magical world, he found himself facing against terrible monsters - and other Awakened - in a deadly battle of survival.
What's worse, the shadow powers he received happened to possess a small, but potentially fatal side effect...

Mordret might be one of the scariest antagonists I have ever read about. I cannot believe how poignant and profound his portrayal is.

I get why he is mad and I understand his vengeance. But can he not see why everyone is scared of him?

This might be a short one, but it absolutely carried the momentum from the previous book. The ending has left me speechless. The nightmare creatures are fearful again, even though Sunny and his cohort are ascended, the nightmare desert has reduced them to mere sleepers. This unexplored part of the dream realm is more harrowing than anything we have ever seen. Great Devils are running rampant but i'm getting ahead of myself, let me start again.

The book picked up from where we left off, Sunny and Jet making their way to East Antarctica. Once they reach, Sunny does what he does best. He goes on to become a scout as part of special reconnaissance unit. He and Jet stumble upon a Tyrant with skull armour. They quickly dispatch it after leading it to the river, where Kai and Effie laid a trap for it. Sunny is a changed man now, he knows the pain of losing someone, so we see him avoid taking charge which I can sympathise.

There are a bunch of fights from here till the end. We have the awesome fight with firekeepers joining their hands with the Nightsingers and Wolves. We see 5 masters fighting a wall of nightmare creatures, this fight was especially well written. Sunny with his shadow fiend, Nephis with her immortal flame, Effie, Kai and Jet going all out as well, all being positioned according to our Oracle Cassie. The readers are left nostalgic as it brings back memories when they fought together in Forgotten Shore.

We then see Sunny take out an insidious trap laid by the Song and Valor both in their senseless feud. We see Sunny spar Morgan after which we see a shift in POV. We are now witnessing events through the literal eyes of Mordret. We see how he infiltrates Valor and makes his treacherous way towards the black skull citadel. He then masterfully orchestrates both the army to come find him. Here we see a two armies colliding with many legendary fights. Morgan fighting Mordret was tough to watch as he has the upper hand even if she is better skilled. The Sunny and Nephis facing against Dire Fang was peak. We thought killing a Saint made sunny prove his mastery over his skills but when the three category four nightmare gates opened on them, its all for naught. The journey in the nightmare desert is simply suicidal. They are forced into the third nightmare as there is no choice of surviving in this hellscape. The writing felt on par with what we saw in the legendary forgotten shore arc. Antarctica arc has been fun to divulge in, more so than Chained Isle but it's lacking in the world building and lore that we witnessed in Chained Isles.

I found the proper chapter range in the wiki but it felt weird how Sunny went all out infront of Morgan because it was stated that he had to be strong but not too much.

Anyway, 3rd nightmare is next so we'll see if it goes well.

This arc was more relaxed compared to central antarctica. It was just the battle at the end that was somewhat entertaining but nothing new. G3 uses chekhov's gun a lot which at least makes thinks to be throughly planned compared to others that skills and tools are forgotten.

There’s like 40 of these books on here, but I read the webnovel chapter by chapter so I’m stopping here. I read about 750 chapters of it and then stopped. First main arc of the book is peak, and after that it just drags its feet. At the time of writing this, there are 2866 chapters and counting.

The antarctic arc is over, onto the Third Trial. I can't wait to see Saint Sunny and Saint Neph.

Quyển 6 là bước đệm mở đầu cho Third nightmare, giai đoạn này không có quá nhiều tình tiết đột phá.
