A tremble in the dark. A lover in the night. A whisper in your ear and a hand against your back. You may think you're alone, but you never are. Despite your lies, regardless of your misgivings, someone is always there to love you. In this collection of short stories, Kody Boye opens your mind to the power of love. From the adoration of the dead and the longing of a swan, to the supernatural gift of creation and the false dream of beauty, Amorous Things explores the world of affection and the lives impacted by the world's most simple emotion.
Kody Boye has always been drawn to escape into other worlds. Now primarily a young adult fiction author, he made his debut in the Yellow Mama webzine at the age of fourteen with the publication of "[A] Prom Queen's Revenge," and sold his debut novel, Sunrise, to Library of the Living Dead Press at eighteen.
Since then, he has authored several young adult novels across multiple speculative fiction genres. His works include The Beautiful Ones, The Red Wolf Saga, and the When They Came trilogy.
When not writing, Kody enjoys reading YA novels, playing video games, and relaxing with his three cats. He currently lives and writes in Southeastern Idaho.
Overview: I hate not finishing a story but I figured if I read at least half, that would be all that was required since all said stories were *thumbs down* for me. The stories, to me, were boring PERIOD. Sorry but I wasn't a fan 'at all' with the short stories I managed to get through. IDK what it was about them considering I love anything weird or supernatural, but it wasn't working for me here. It was either a slow story, nothing really going on, or something that just wasn't making any sense to me.
GLORIA AND THE BEAST 1/5
I was left with too many questions and quirky things that got to me. One such thing- If the beast creatures claws go back to its knees...IDK, I'm having a hard time trying to picture it. Does it walk on the claws? AND "The Beast of Turner' wasn't a mutant, or some kinda of deformed runaway pup. It was a species of canine..." How did he figure that? Just because the male had babies? -----------------------------
THE MIRACLE IN IDAHO -20/5
Now I don't often call stories a piece of crap, but that's what this one was. There was too much craziness going on in this one. The author was just jumping around all over the place. For example- I was confused with this scene. So the cousin comes over asking what's wrong. "'Our cat's dead', my dad says, 'and he's locked the door.'" So was the boy trying to get in the house...While the father was telling the cousin what happened? But a sentence later "...trying to make it outside..." Huh? So he's in the house and can't unlock the door, and his father outside? And the cousin is where?
Or these 2 lines: "...just like when a supposedly color-blind dog can see when a woman dyes her hair." What?
LOL Mom: "I have to go back to work." Boy: "Please, no. I...I might hurt him if you do." Mom: "You better not. He needs to pay the bills." Priceless! -------------------------------------
ELIJAH 1/5 Boring
So the guy has something weird going on with his hand and the doc can't even prescribe him something for the pain? Right. ---------------------------------------
DREAM 1/5
I guess this could have been an interesting story but it just didn't call to me. ---------------------------------------
WAR IS IN THE HEARTS OF MEN 1/5 Boring
I never understood why the one guy wanted to join the military in the first place? And sorry but if you're married, you do have to take into account your significant other. Also what year is this suppose to be taking place in? The "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy is still there but gays and lesbians aren't allowed to join. I'm confused? ---------------------------------------
BEAUTIFUL WOMAN 1/5
When the father and son went for a walk, the boy says the woman walking towards them is the killer, so why does the father act like nothing is wrong? Whole scene was weird there. -------------------------------------
THE GIRL WITH THE ORIGAMI SWAN 1/5
So the teacher called home to find out where she learned to make the swans? Yeah... And it's most definitely supernatural that the girl knew how to do this without help. Yup. The way the author introduced the mother, Sincere, was bad. "The violent, painful outbreaks eventually got to the point where Sincere, fearful for her daughter's life..." -------------------------------------
CAROLINE 1/5 Boring
If the priest said the bell was evil, then why was it still there? And when the two girls come across Carters body, they respond with, "It's the guy from the news!" Yet, a few sentences prior Carter was going over the fact that he would have had to have been gone for 48 hours before the police would have done anything. So how did he end up on the news? ------------------------------------
