This saddens my soul. . .

This whole series reminded me of Doubt, Judge and Secret. This felt like a very toned-down version of the previous volumes that was so good. I loved all of them because they were so unique. This series story combined all of them and gave it a bit of Squid Game vibes.

The main character had no backbone.

I hope the next Yoshiki Tongai series will be miles better than this toned-down version of all previous works.

Ryosuke Miyauchi, having killed in order to save Ryo from her death game, has come to the attention of Sakura, EDC executive with a plan to take down the company. And he wants Miyauchi to help. Reluctantly, he does, but is in for a surprise when he sees what comes next.
While an interesting end to the series, there were several moments that felt surprisingly rushed through and underdeveloped - such as the outcome of Ryo's death game. The ending also seemed like it was opening the door for a sequel, but then finished feeling more like a Twilight Zone episode. Though a good series overall, the finale was underwhelming and felt too rushed.

La fin est proche pour la dernière série de Yoshiki Tonogai, une série aussi courte que son œuvre précédente Secret. Jusque-là, l’intrigue est très prenante, mais à la fin du second tome, j’ai eu l’impression que les choses s’accélérait, un peu trop à mon goût même… Et malheureusement, il semblerait que ça soit encore le cas pour ce tome.

Le point le plus dommage avec cette série, c’est qu’elle avait beaucoup de potentiel, mais que malheureusement, le résultat n’est pas complètement au rendez-vous. On ressent rapidement que l’histoire s’accélère avec ce dernier tome, alors que l’auteur aurait largement pu continuer l’intrigue et mieux développer certains points et certains personnages. Au final, il n’y a aucun personnage qui ne le soit réellement, même Ryosuke qui est le protagoniste n’est pas vraiment traité plus que ça, et il n’est même pas attachant, aucun personnage ne l’a été pour moi. Dans ce genre de série, il avait l’habitude de jouer un peu avec ses personnages, ça a encore été un peu le cas avec Ryosuke, mais le résultat n’est pas aussi intéressant et frappant.

Lui qui nous a habitué à des thrillers qui nous tordent les méninges, j’en suis fortement étonnée. Déjà que Secret, malgré son originalité, n’était pas très intéressante, cette série en rajoute encore une petite couche. Avec ses deux dernières séries, on voit qu’il cherche un peu à se renouveler, afin de ne pas nous proposer toujours la même chose, toutefois ses changements semblent assez maladroit… raison pour laquelle il a essayé de revenir sur les idées de ses deux premiers récits, mais avec un point de vue différent, et franchement intéressant. Mais encore une fois, peut-être qu’il aurait mieux valu prendre un peu plus de temps pour le peaufiner et éviter les éléments dont je parle plus bas.

On sent une intrigue qui aurait pu être intéressante, la fin montre que le mangaka avait des idées derrière la tête. Malheureusement, ça n’a pas été assez amené, la fin est rushée et plein d’éléments sont survolés. De plus, les personnages sont fades alors qu’on sent dans ce tome qu’ils ont le potentiel d’être intéressants ; mais le manga ne prend pas le temps de les développer… Quel gâchis.

Almost but not quite redeemed by the ending. Unfortunately a series with diminishing returns, but still a good horror concept with hints of Running Man/Chain Gang All Stars and the Saw/Cube/etc movies.

A decent ending but also kind of boring. This whole volume felt rushed and we didn’t really get a sense for some of the characters. I feel like this idea was so good and interesting but it got rushed and ended up focusing on the wrong things.

This was another twisty, gory, ride, and I’m a little sad that it’s over 😆.  It was fast-paced and I couldn’t look away from watching everything unfold.
