The book deals with the basic concepts of high voltage engineering qualitatively and, wherever possible, quanititaviely. It describes breakdown mechanism and characteristics of insulating media, generation and measurement of high voltages, high voltage phenomenon in electric power systems, and high voltage testing of equipment. In the Second Edition, a new chapter on electrostatic field estimation and an appendix on partial discharges have been added to update the contents. Solved problems have also been given to help students develop the understanding of the concepts discussed. The book is intended for the undergraduate students of Electrical Engineering offering a course in High Voltage Engineering.
