“It was every shade of purple you could imagine. I think we were seeing the Eye of God.”

A strange phenomenon enters Earth’s orbit . . .

Those who see it become mesmerized. Cars surge out of control, planes fall from the sky. Casualties pile up and society’s resources are stretched thin to manage the fallout.

This is only the first day.

A nurse, a death row inmate, and an orphan cross paths as they try to understand the Eye of God. They realize the Eye’s grip on humanity is just a fleeting stage, and those affected are transforming into something more sinister . . .

This was one of the best books I've read in a very long time. Absolutely amazing character development. The writing is fantastic. This author has a way of drawing you into the story and not letting you go. A post-apocalyptic thriller that has a very good creep factor. Absolute page-turner.

Again, Hubert Mullins has me neglecting life as I plow through another of his novels. Mullins is truly a gifted writer. Flawless. I'm a beta reader of horror and read as such, and have yet to find anything out of place. His characters effortlessly come to life and you can't help but truly care about what he's putting them through. This would be fun to see on the big screen. Under Bethel as well. A+

Impossible to put down

A great story from start to finish. I read it in one day because I couldn’t stop reading. It has all the action, adventure, horror and science fiction you could ever want in a book.

I love the uniqueness of this story. It is different from the genres I had been reading and engaging. I found myself cheering for the main characters' survival. It was a steady read full of excitement and a desire to know what was next.

Wow.
I'm not sure where to even start with this book, I loved every moment! All three of the characters were likeable, believable, and had excellent stories that kept me interested, and poor Daniel had such a heartbreaking past.
At first it felt like it was going to be a book with some type of biblical apocalypse after the very first event, but with each new event and evolution of the "infected" it took a whole new turn. This story has a little bit of everything in it, apocalypse and societal collapse, infection, change, hoards (hordes?), survivors, aliens, fear, hope, suspense... you name it! I don't think there's another book or story or even a movie that could even compare, but if I had to try and relate it to something I would say it's a mixture of:
Don't Look Up. (No really, don't look up no matter what the circumstances)
I Am Legend. (change in the humans, aggression of the changed)
A Quiet Place (don't make a sound).
Wayward Pines. (again, the change in the humans)
Halo (because of the alien weapons, hellooooooo needlers!)
War of the Worlds (alien attempt to change our planet)
Evolution (because of the rate of change)

This is the second book by Hubert Mullins that I have read, and for a second time I am so impressed with the imagination and creativity he puts into a story.

10/10

DO NOT LOOK UP. WHATEVER YOU DO. HOWEVER CURIOUS YOU ARE. NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU SEE LOOKING TO THE SKIES.

DO.

NOT.

LOOK.

UP.

Now that I have your attention, this thriller is for all those that like twists and turns. Although you may not like the color purple so much anymore afterward. Twists, turns, zigs and zags abound throughout this book.

People look to skies only to become......what? What is happening? Why are people looking to the sky at a certain time of day? What is the Eye of God?

Mr. Mullins, weaves words that leave you in a world that in it's most destructive is still beautiful. Descriptive and told in such a way that you will be saying "Just one more chapter." If you love sci-fi, this is for you! If you don't, this book will change your mind.

In a world full of color, what if one color was the color that would change life the way you live it?
What if one color made good people change?
What if one color made convicted killers heroes?
What if one color made the blind to see?
What if one color made the ones able to see blind?
What if one color changed the face of our world so much that nothing would ever be the same again?

Whatever you do, don't look up and don't presume you have a handle on what's going on. In a world turned upside down, the rules will change more often than we dare to imagine.

One morning, something hovers in the sky. It instantly mesmerizes everyone who sees it, leaving chaos and destruction in its wake. Cars drive off the road. Pedestrians walk into traffic or don't move out of the way. Trains derail. Planes fall from the sky. The injured "mezzed" don't even respond to the most grievous of injuries. Over the following hours and days, they will change in stranger and less predictable ways, creating a world more terrifying and heartbreaking than your average "they all turned into mindless crazies or zombies" story.

Follow an orphan, a nurse and a death row inmate as they fight to stay alive and hold onto hope in a terrifying new world. At once an apacolyptic horror story, and a tale of survival and found family. Empty Skies will draw you in and hold your attention as well as your heart until the last page.

This author writes such good characters and the ones in this book are great. The story is very character driven but also has a cool and unique storyline that has some surprises. Perhaps not my favourite from Mr. Mullins (that would be Blood and Salt, if you haven't read it you should), I thought this one was a little too long in the beginning. Lots of world building but I was anxious to get to the action. I did like it and am glad I read it.

Another amazing horror story! Apocalyptic, aliens, zombies, survival, found family, this one has it all. Truly an emotional rollercoaster, follow the story of 4 survivors through the end of the world and the beginning of a new one. This is like if Stephan King was a Halo fan, with a little Walking Dead to keep it lively.. or unlively. Fantastic!

Worth your time to read

Thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and characters. Even more so, the story was tied up at the end. No sequels, no waiting to see what perils happened next. I get tired of series sometimes. This one is worth the read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I finished the audio book Empty Skies by Hubert L. Mullins and it was so good. This writer has a way with being able to have 20 different things going on and the reader can still keep up with everything easily.

Imagine looking up to the sky one day and life as you know it ends due to the Eye of God entrancing everyone who looks at it. A nurse, a famous murderer, and a blind orphan cross paths as they make the trek through the wastelands. The blind have extraordinary powers during this time. As time passes the survivors quickly realize that problems are only getting worse as they try together to understand what is actually happening.

This story has a lot going on. As it progresses the story gets more complex as characters are lost and introduced and layers are built.

I will give this book 5 stars for multiple reasons. Hubert's writing is impeccable. I've said it before but it feels like this guy has been writing for 50 years. It's as professional and structured as it gets.

I would recommend it to everyone that likes zombie, plague, apocalyptic, type books. The horror level is pretty mild as most of his work is. Don't let that deter you. It is so well written that veteran horror readers can appreciate it as well as people new to the genre who may be curious but don't want their pants scared off.
