If your aim is to talk to people, yes, go ahead and get this book.

If you, like me, who don't have a real need to talk to people in Chinese and just wanna read, then find another textbook.

It contains basic convo guides...which doesn't necessarily help me. For example, I met a patient today who only knows Mandarin but none of the convos I learned prepared me for the real thing.

He said mang ma? I was stumped for 5mins 'cause I was like aaaaaaah someone is actually speaking mandarin to me.
Then I just ask whether he had breakfast and was he in any pain and why he's there. Awkward and stilted.... Sooo I realised that I need more vocab for small talk instead of asking directions and buying stuff.
