3.2 Stars. Public Library 4/16/15. It wasn't until I was past the first couple pages that I realized this book tied into another ("The Wife He Never Forgot"). "The Lone Wolf's Craving" is actually the first book in the "Men of Honor" series but I actually think it was better that I read them out of order because events in this book happen after the second book. Hopefully that was clear... It's a bit weird but this is also a series that has a different author for each book.
It might be a bit confusing if you didn't read the books like I did so here is a character breakdown. Kate is Nick's long lost daughter, Nick is the doctor that saved Lucas's life and leg, Tiggy is Nick's pregnant wife, and, Lucas is Nick's doctor and friend. Based upon the timeline Kate shows up right after/during Nick's surgery in an effort to get to know her biological father. She meets Lucas at the hospital where their instant chemistry leads them to a series of one night stands. As they each deal with their own issues things get complicated as they try to keep their distance from one another. Nick, Tiggy, Kate, and Lucas try to figure out how they fit into each other's lives. Fans of Nick and Tiggy will be pleased to see how their relationship is progressing. By the end of the book Kate and Lucas have worked out enough of their issues to get their HEA.
Solid writing, a good plot and believable characters, even if the wounded hero – very well written – is not one you would empathize at first sight. I think that the chemistry between the couple is reduced, in most of the story, to the sexual attraction and the erotic dimension and I would like to have seen other aspects more explored. The final part of the story was very good, from the dramatic point of view, with the hero’s ‘capitulation’ to his own feelings and limitations. The book is part of a duo (Men of honour) with Anne Fraser's "The wife he never forgot".
I loved how this story was developed. Luke and Kate's relationship is not fast paced. I loved how believable the relationship was written. I fell in love with these characters
