Ember: Queen of Dragons #2

Dragons of Fire and Stone

Rate this book
The long-awaited peace summit between the Fire Dragon and Stone Dragon Kingdoms is about to kick off, when what should happen? I lay eyes on the two gorgeous princes of the two warring nations, and instantly, it’s clear. I’m their fated mate.

It’s unheard of. Impossible. No dragon has more than one mate.

I always have been special, though—and not in a good way. What will happen when my new bondmates discover that I’m a defective dragon? A shifter who can’t shift? Not to mention the secret, shameful ex-girlfriend of yet another dragon prince?

Throw in the fact that I’m the bearer of an ancient magical artifact, once worn by the Shadow Dragon Queen herself, and it’s clear that there’s more going on here than simple pheromones.

That’s all hard to keep track of, though, as I spend some quality time getting to know these two incredible men—both with and without our clothes. On one level, our union is a dream come true.

On another, it’s a nightmare, full of bad blood running between two feuding monarchs, and a conflict that’s been brewing for millennia. Our connection is powerful, but so are the forces fighting to tear us—and all of dragonkind—apart…

-

Dragons Of Fire And Stone is the second book in a new Why Choose paranormal romance series, which is best read in order, beginning with Book 1, Rejected By Dragons. Warning—contains a cliffhanger!

This book/series seems to only work if people don’t tell other people anything. The plot wouldn’t exist if people just told someone else something. It’s like the character can only talk about the weather and how hot someone else is. That’s it….small talk and sex scenes.

The book heavily uses misunderstanding, false assumptions, cluelessness when something/someone shady happens, people keeping secrets for really weak reasons.

I am not reading the next book. I’ve found this series so far to be a hot mess and not in an entertaining nor enjoyable way.

*I did receive this book as an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for my honest review* when I tell you that the cliffhanger from book 1 left me so on edge...I am absolutely thrilled that this story picks up right where book 1 left off! Dizzy writes the characters in such a relatable way, and the mystery behind the events [the bombing, the shady assistants, the High Priestess, and then Storm at the end] keeps me interested and on my toes. Not to mention, the spice is 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 and wonderfully written [thank you Dizzy for not referring to a clitoris as a nub, ha!] I am truly invested in Ember's story [I read this in one day, so it is fast paced but also sucked me in] and cannot wait to see what upcoming books have in store for her.

DNF 71% and I think it’s a “me” problem. I hadn’t realized this was a 5-6 book series and the thought of dealing with this FMC for that long turned me off. I think if this had been a trilogy I’d have stuck around but I can’t see the story being so interesting that I’d be good with so many books.

Don’t get me wrong, the story is fine. The characters are pretty good. I personally hate fated mates and that could be part of why I’m not into this. I don’t know.

yes but

I’m a little disappointed in how weak the main characters are so far in the first two books and half the third. I’m hoping they stand up for themselves soon because it’s sad that they keep laying down and letting people walk all over them. Other than that, I’m enjoying the series.

This did not get better. They have been at the summit the entirety of the book, I’m at 50% and it has just started. I am so so bored. Nothing is happening, and I have realised I no longer care. I am abandoning this series.

Huh

So other than meeting two of her mates and almost getting blown up there’s not a whole lot going on.

Great 2nd book

I found I was entranced in this as I was the first one. I found it didn’t hold a heaviness of having to do x amount of things that had to be done yesterday before they can make a move to save the world the next day. Yes, there was the pressure of royalty, and the amount of herding the princes away from Ember any chance they could, but there was also balance in Embers emotions. She was devastated being rejected by Storm, like heart broken, lying on the floor feeling like her heart was being pulverized. She found Unity when she really needed it and made her first real girl friend there. Amy, who is now her bestie, a lesbian bestie, and the quips that girl said even made me laugh. Amys mom hired her for her store, and since Ember was taught language, history and runes from each of the dragon kingdoms from her parents (who “abandoned” her while on a visit to her aunts place in the Air kingdom, this was explained in the first book). She is sorting through magical items and comes across as special bracer (bracelet), the draw she felt was powerful but held back due to the Amy’s mom’s warning when she hired her. That night she couldn’t stop thinking about it and went to the store and is about to open the crate where the bracer is, when Amy’s mom appears. She explains his the Shadown Queens bracer and she was hoping it would choose her as its heir but instead it chose Ember. She allowed Ember to touch it, and as soon as she did it attached itself to her wrist and she couldn’t get it off. She meets the Princes from the Fire kingdom (Rafe) and the Stone Kingdom (Jiyanu). As soon as the guys transform, she gasps and it like sucks their attention to her in an instant and boom! Two new mates! Her inner dragon is going crazy! It puts off talks of peace as they go at it like crazy, claiming her, it settles their dragons and her own. Ember needed that more than anyone knew. She worries that they will need to hide her relationship with them in the public like Storm did to her before rejecting her publicly. And even though it’s known in the inner royal circle of admins and stuff, they won’t acknowledge it publicly yet. Ember understands but it still breaks her heart. If we didn’t get to read their point of views alongside hers, I would have been angry on her behalf, but they weren’t doing it to hurt her but to protect her. Now, if the guys could get along politically, that would be amazing, thankfully when it’s just the 3 of them, they get along pretty well. I have a feeling that the Air kingdom’s King, has a deal with the staff of the other dragon kingdoms, to keep stirring up crap and blaming the other kingdoms. Rafe was apparently caught red handed trying to kill Jiyanu when they were kids, but Rafe says he was framed, but Jiyanu let his dads accusations color his judgment and from then on, they were at each others throats anytime they were in public together. Ember seems to bring out their vulnerable side, letting them slowly work out their differences in private. I truly think the bombing at the community hall was planned by the guys admin people, the ones whispering in their ear. I mean it was obvious that they dragged them away from the room when they all came back from their few min break, then the bomb happened. No one seemed suspicious though. That drove me batty, obvious thing but no one saw it. I was curious if the head priestess would know Embers parents, I’m really glad that she is giving her a chance and not automatically assuming she’s bad due to being the chosen heir of the shadow queen. Ember needs ppl to believe in her, and she needs to feel like she has some control over her life even if it’s just a tiny bit.
I feel for Storm, again I would think very differently about him if I didn’t get to read his point of view. I had a feeling she was his true mate too but with her status being an outsider, and not able to shift, the judgment of her being broken was wide spread and he wasn’t strong enough to stand up for her. Letting her go by rejecting her saying she’s “nothing, no one important”. Those words haunt her even now. She still hasn’t told the guys about Storm and I feel that convo is going to be interesting. Storm needs to grow a back bone. His dad grows more powerful by apparently allying with shadow dragons by selling off his only daughter to them. Storm feels deeply ashamed but hasn’t really Done anything about it, that’s what pisses me off. Sure he isn’t the favoured heir, but he’s still an Heir. He hasn’t looked into her that we know of, I think when he comes back into the picture there needs to be some huge grovelling and she better not just forgive him. She’s been walked over her whole life after her parents abandoned her and he knew about the bullying, the physical abuse but never did anything so she deserves all the grovelling. I can’t wait to read more about her bracer and I feel like she will only emerge on a night with no moon. Possibly being a shadow dragon. Cant wait!

RH MMMM/Shifters (Dragons) & Mages/Muli PoV

SYNOPSIS (of 6 Book Series): The FC, Ember, is an dragon shifter who has been left by her mother with her aunt to grow up in the Air Kingdom whilst she looks for her father. Years later her mother has not returned, Ember‘s dragon refuses to emerge and she lives a life being put down and bullied and having to hide her relationship with the Air Kingdom prince. Things come to a head when she is banished from the Air Kingdom, finds that she has a bigger destiny ahead of her and she meets her 4 Prince soul mates. The series moves through how Ember meets all of her mates and the struggles they go through trying to stop a global war within the dragon world amidst a backdrop of treachery and subterfuge as the Shadow Dragon king fights to take power and they seem unable to trust anyone. Ember must step up to her role as the Dragon Heir, the one to bring peace and harmony to dragons.

HEAT LEVEL 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆🍆🍆🍆 This series is heavy on the graphic sex, primarily group scenes, and it takes up large parts of the stories, is graphic and a central part of the author‘s writing. There‘s no MM, kink or dom elements just heat. I found this series to be too unbalanced in favour of pages of sex scenes and those scenes were particularly graphic with a lack of actual romance or connection as well as being very crude in places when describing the FC’s actions and behaviour. As a result, I didn‘t really work for me. I also have to say that I‘m really not a fan of the overuse in a lot of books of the cu%t word but I really draw the line at this author‘s use of the word „gash“ 🤢I found that particularly grim and completely unsexy.

In summary, the basic story was decent enough (albeit unoriginal) but taken over by the sex scenes and there was a lot of repetition where the author kept repeatedly describing things that had happened a few pages earlier as if she thought the reader may have forgotten! I quickly became irritating. If the series was tightened up it would be a better read. There was some good world building and back story but limited actual romance or relationship development. This is very much insta-lust between the mates.

The FC is likeable enough (when you can ignore her obsession with objectifying her mates and thinking about sex) and had elements of being a strong FC. Unfortunately the author dragged out the emergence of her dragon and any real level of powers. Then, when they finally emerge in the final book, they are the type that are just OTT where no one has a hope of fighting back. It was a shame. There‘s this huge, dragged out build up and then everything is quickly wrapped up. There‘s large parts of the story where the author seems to drop characters (such as Ben, Cael and Zahara - where were they in the big fight scenes or Li and Atina, what happened to them?) and then remember them and throw in a quick reference 🤷‍♀️. So the supporting cast of secondary characters was a bit lacking and there were gaps in the story. The MCs are all alpha, possessive dragons but there is limited differentiation between them and little depth given to their personalities or relationships. Storm is the only one that gets any real depth and that is because of the FC‘s history with him.

Overall this was readable (I skimmed large portions) but drags with an unsatisfactory ending. If you like a series which is primarily hot scenes with a bit of basic story to join the scenes then this is probably the series for you 😉

47% and this book is almost entirely sex and miscommunications. I think this would’ve worked better for me if it wasn’t in our world/Earth. I kept going back to see when the book was written due to the pop-culture references that don’t age entirely well. The miscommunications feel unforgivable given they have the same technology/communication devices we have. I quit at the point where I felt like it was trying to sell me an eLeCtRiC mustang (which is funny, as it IS my car).

I skimmed a lot of the first book, finding it overly pedantic yet also lacking. I really felt for Rhiannon, and just could not keep thinking about HOW they were in our world. They’re on Earth, sounds like somewhere West, yet the 3 kingdoms seem relatively close. We have a good distinction on races, but they all seem to be from the USA. Why?

If there’s some world-ending, terrible, war — why is Taylor Swift releasing the same exact albums she did in our reality? How can this girl walk around an entire air “kingdom” in basically a single day. It just does not line up at all.

I did like that the FMC had strong female influences but there were equal amounts mean girls and bullies. The FMC feels like a very weak character that’s just gonna suddenly find her power because she’s being railed for chapters by 2 princes. Shes “not like the other girls.”

It’s clear where this is heading with Storm, but I just hated how forgivable they wrote him from the jump. The author wanted some clear strife/rejection, but don’t worry guys it’s for his little sister that no one knows about and has been kept locked up away. Totally forgivable that he humiliated the FMC and hid her for years bc clearly he’s just a confused hero and good guy.

I was excited to discover this series, but it wasn’t for me. I can’t imagine how they can stretch this for 6 more books when like 3 weeks max have passed in the first 2.

IM A SUCKER FOR A GOOD FANTASY SHIFTER STORY BUT I HATE CLIFFHANGERS!!!!!

Best part of an ARC? You get to read the next part early
Worst part of an ARC? You have to wait more time to read the next part 😭😭

The last book ended with us meeting our Fire kingdom prince (Rafe) and Stone kingdom prince (Jianyu) after the Air kingdom prince (Stone) rejected Ember.

Here we see how Rafe, Jianyu and Ember deal with their mating and the peace summit held at Unity. There's intimacy, emotions, political and personal conflicts, insecurities, magic and shifting. Ember does not know what the bracelet means for her exactly and that's a risky game.

Rafe and Jianyu are two complete opposites of each other but the way they handle Ember, omggg, it's sexyyyy AF🥵

As a whole, this part gave us the insights of the kingdoms and their feelings towards one another. Rafe and Jianyu can work together for Ember but can their kingdoms align too? Epecially with how the people hate each other?

PS: Despite everything I do think Stone loves and cares about Ember and I hope with all my heart that he gets to be in Ember's harem soon and forever and doesn't get killed😭😭

This was another enjoyable read! It was great to see the relationship between Ember, Jianyu and Rafe develop and see how their pasts and present politically was conflicted still even though they were getting along in front of Ember. We get to see the reactions of Rafe's father and I can definitely say I'm not a fan of his. Jianyu's and Rafe's past incident which caused their divide affecting both countries' attitude towards each other is explored a bit and can't wait to see it explored a bit more.

I do like Ember as a main character and she has had some character development. It will be interesting to see how she will react when she encounters Storm again. Jianyu and Rafe are definite opposites but do show their old friendship and ability to be peaceful for Ember when not held up by their families' and countries' duties and stances.

To sum up, excited to read the next book and looking forward to the plot unfolding further!

Things are starting to heat up. With Ember’s escape from the Air Kingdom, she finds her mates within the Fire and Stone Kingdoms. But of course, nothing is ever easy for Ember. War is the way of old dragons and they will definitely exert their wills on the princes set to take the thrones.

I liked that there were forged connections between the characters but I would prefer that there was more of a conversation to help us see better into their interactions and relationships. It felt a bit short in terms of getting to know them and I would prefer a longer story to see it all play out better. The mystery of everything concerning Ember and her background though, was incredibly intriguing and I cannot wait to delve further into their lives. I hope the next books bring more clarity and excitement!

If you read the first book but wanted more action (in all ways) Dizzy did not disappoint in this one. This starts right we’re book 1 ended with Ember meeting her new mates from opposing kingdoms, Prince Jianyu from stone and Prince Rafe from Fire. We see their mating relationship progress (lots of spicy scenes) as well as the two Princes in a more diplomatic scene at each others throats. Embers true role in this book is being the calm in the storm for her mates. But as we know Ember, the calm never last for long.

I finished this one in less than a day and loved jumping back into Embers story. It’s does end on a light cliffhanger but I have no doubt that she will rise into her true self and her mates will rally around her despite their fathers/kingdoms feud. And I hope that we eventually get Stone in on the why choose and get a good grovel as well.

Great Continuation
This book picks up right after book 1. We also get a recap. Which, I love.
I feel like a lot happens in this book. We also get a few answers, but that also brings new questions.
Ember gets to know Jianyu and Rafe in all ways. 😉 So, you could say the steam really steps up!!
In addition, we get drama, dragon politics, a bit of humor and spice.
I also got the sense that there are more secrets and lies happening behind the scenes.
I enjoyed the banter between the Dragon Princes. I hope that we get the truth behind what happened and that they can work together. I'm also hoping that Storm will be another one of Ember's mates.

This is the second book in the series and Ember, our heroine, continues her journey. She finds herself the center of attention once again with princes from two kingdoms. Although Ember finds her fated mates, she is still in constant fear of not being good enough and abandoned. She still feels that something is missing in her life. The arm bracer begins to reveal tiny bits of magic. I enjoyed this book and am awaiting the next in the series, Betrayed By Dragons. I recommend this book/series.

Dragons of Fire And Stone is the second book in the Ember: Queen Of Dragons Series by Dizzy Hooper. This picks up right where book one left off. Ember has found two mates and they go to consummate their union. The guys are princes from opposing kingdoms and have a strong dislike for each other. Quick read. Lots of spice and lots of action. Ends with a cliff hanger! Looking forward to book three to see where/what happens next!

Like the first book, it’s a good quick read.

For me the spicy scenes in this book weren’t that well balanced, with a lot of them close to each other which bored me a little at that point. For this reason I only give the book 3.5 stars. For the storyline it does make sense to have the scenes this close to each other.

Story-wise I’m excited to see where it’s going, and hopefully the relationships can grow a bit closer!

WOW! They're back and the fun begins, well sorta maybe not. Now that she's found 2 mates they have to have to deal with the 2 kingdoms and the guys fathers, oh such fun that is (NOT!). We find out more about them and some of their history and are getting a little more about Ember's past. There's heat, cause well 2 mates! And of course a cliffhanger and so the wait begins (hopefully not to long) for the next book.

This picks up exactly where the first one ended .. no need to reread for sure.

Holy hotness … Ember is the fated mate for two of the Dragon Princess…. Not one hunky dragon but 2!!!!

The mating … lots and lots of 🥵 🔥🔥🔥
Two Princess … enemies… learning to share their mate?
A King set on getting what he wants?
An attack?
A brief kidnapping or was it?

So much is happening that the twist of the cliffhanger is totally unexpected.

Can’t wait until the 3rd and final book …

What a cliffhanger! I couldn’t put this book down. In book 2 we’re able to learn more about Jianyu and Rafe’s history together and their kingdoms, as well as Ember’s growing powers. But I still have so many questions! What’s Storm up to? What about Unity and the Summit? What are the Kings actually up to? And the ending? I just need to know what happens next! Can’t wait for book 3!

I'm loving the second round of this series, Dizzy is a genius at setting the scene and drawing the reader into Ember's world. The characters are coming to life and learning their backstory makes us love them all the more. Cliffhanger not as huge as book 1, thank goodness, but the storyline is pretty epic and I cannot wait for book 3!

This books right up where book 1 left off. Ember has 2 mates that are princes of feuding courts. She is feeling all the feels. Thai books gets hot and heavy quickly. Can the pines out aside their differences for Ember? Can the 3 of them solve a mystery surrounding the source of the feud? I adore this story. I appreciate the MPV. I cannot wait to see where this story goes. I’m invested now.

I was REALLY excited for this ARC. We left off in book one on a cliffy and I just needed more from Ember, Raife, and Jinyu

without spoiling - we learn a lot about why the two princes don’t get along and the pressures they face in their respective kingdoms.

I truly can’t wait to visit the Fire Kingdom and also see what Storms up to because we are left with another cliffy!

Ahhhh that ending!! What's going on??!! I am in love with this series and cannot wait to see what happens next. Also, will water dragons be making an appearance? How can she be queen of dragons if she doesn't have a mate from all dragon types Water, Air, Fire, Stone, and Shadow. We know of 3, so are we waiting for 2 mire mates??!!

Better than book one

There are still a lot of unknowns that have me on the edge!! Book one was more of an introduction. This book had a lot more intrigue, and the plot is getting better.
