Kimberly had done it again, she has stolen my heart. I have told her and I say it all the time, I am NOT a fan the paranormal genre but I stumbled upon Roam (another wonderful book by this author) a few months ago and fell in love!
Eighth Note picks up 18 months after the end of Reign (the last book in the Roam series). Eva Reed is living in North Carolina with her husband Will and their daughter Perry. She board and restless. Since she loves music so much Eva has created a wildly popular music blog named Fire Ballad but even that is not enough. She longs to use her magic; she even misses being Queen in Icepond. Than one day Cole Mathison shows up needing her help. A singer Eva recently interviewed has died and Cole believes there is a paranormal explanation. Little did they know what was in store for them! Eva’s relationship with Will will be tested as well as her sanity and her strength. Oh and I can’t forget the sex, hot!!!
I HIGHLY recommend this book, but you should really read the Roam series first so that you know all the players and the background story! (Roam, Fall, Rise, Rule, Rush, West and Reign). Kimberly is a fantastic writer and I look forward to the next book in this series. But please don’t let my secret out, I’m really not a paranormal fan!

I am so thankful that i got an ARC of this book because it was absolutely amazing. Eighth Note is a Spin off from her series Roam(which if you haven't read it yet is a must.) It has to do with my second favorite couple Eva and Will and also Cole. I have to say it was a great read Eva has so much spunk in here its not even funny. But when she ends up being tired of always being home with nothing to do and Cole ends up asking her for help, she doesn't turn him down but what she doesn't know is she's getting herself in a certain predicament. Kimberly did it again absolutely amazing!!!

That was weirdly good...it took me a minute to catch on as this is the first book I've read in this series (or by this author) and I had no idea there was a mystical element to it. I'm excited to see how this plays out! Full review to come with my tour post on 11/5.

“You and I both know there are things in this world that are disturbing, and monsters that have yet to make themselves known. It is not your responsibility to fight them.”
Eva Reed is immortal…her entire family is. Eva is also a queen. You would never know any of these things by looking at her and her family. Married to her Soul Mate, Will, and being a stay-at-home mom to their daughter, Perry; Eva keeps her magic pretty well contained. Problem is, she’s bored. And boredom breeds resentment. Craving excitement in her life that doesn’t revolve around a toddler, Eva tries to keep herself occupied with her blog—a music blog. See, one of Eva’s magical charms is that she can control music…or better, frequencies. Creating melodies, and soundtracks for her daily life sounds great, except if anyone found out, their secret could and would ruin their very existence. It’s only when Cole, an old friend, shows up asking for her help in solving a very weird case of suicidal death involving a song that Eva decides to use her “powers” and knowledge of music and all its charms to help him. This is her opportunity to have something more.
“BETA (14-30 HZ), ALPHA (8-14 HZ), THETA (4-8 HZ), and DELTA (0.5-4 HZ) “Sororities?” Cole suggested, glancing down at my iPad screen. I lifted my eyes and gave him an obligatory smirk. “Haha. Brainwaves.” I countered. “Like right now, we are in beta. We’re awake, in an active state of awareness. Alpha is a relaxed state of consciousness when we’re most creative. Like when you’re playing the guitar.” “Theta is the state we dream in,” he went on, reading over my shoulder. “And Delta is deep sleep.” “Theta is the frequency I’m most familiar with,” I added. “I can bend the frequency somehow. And find yours. Or anyone’s. Combine them, make us dream together.”
As if things couldn’t get any weirder…there are people dying left and right. All after hearing a song that was recorded by the original artist before she too, killed herself in the most brutal of ways. No one knows or understands what is happening and Eva is determined to find a way to break the chain. What she doesn’t know is that the forces working against her have been waiting a very long time for her to finally come to them…
“Yes, yes. A magical skeptic. A reincarnated soul with doubts. You are a prime target for this demon.”
WHOA! Demons…yeah, this just got real! Somehow, the story morphed from fantasy about different lands and kings and queens—to a war of the worlds. A battle between good and evil, and Satan himself is trying to establish an army. Problem is, he needs help; Eva’s help. He needs her power, her musical talent, her strength. It’s a little scary. I was completely intrigued, and totally clueless as to how it all started. One thing I loved was the fact that things were explained to me in a way I could catch on completely and go back to previous stories, knowing what is going on…well, mostly.
I enjoyed the mystical element to this book. I love how the idea of fantasy and reality morph into spiritual warfare. Definitely a nice twist. There isn’t much of a steamy factor but it didn’t need it. There was enough, and it was definitely not what I was expecting (I was pleasantly surprised) but the fantasy element, even with sex, was good. I look forward to reading more in this series…I am so happy with the surprise of Eighth Note. I didn’t read a synopsis or anything else and as the story unfolded I found it was hard to put down. All good things in a story!

Eighth Note is book 1 in the new Fire Ballad series by Kimberly Stedronsky. This book dives into the life of Eva Reed, whom we met in the Roam Series. Now, don’t get all squirrely on me now because I’m here to say that one doesn’t have to read the Roam Series (but you really should anyway because they’re the best books ever) in order to enjoy this new series because Ms. Stedronsky does a bang up job giving the best cliffs notes rundown from her 6 book Roam series in the first 5 pages of Eighth Note. And this isn’t the forced, “Well I guess I have to give my readers some backstory so here it is,” word-vomit-crap that’s thrown out there so us poor readers aren’t totally lost. Nope, her re-cap is seamless and makes total sense.
Anyway, Eighth Note is a bit different from Roam as it slides a bit more into the horror genre then being a straight-up PNR. And when I say horror, I mean it’s creepy; think The Grudge style not Texas Chainsaw. This is the kind of horror that’s totally up my alley. In Eighth Note we are introduced to a world of binaural beats, sound waves, entrainment of brainwaves, frequency, possession, and the paranormal. Basically we learn how certain sounds, or frequencies, when overlapped, can influence the brain thus making us open and susceptible to some freaky shizzzz i.e., demonic possession and the like. Ummm yeah - creeeeepy.
It’s been a while since I’ve read any horror but I wasn’t really skeptical. I knew from reading Kimberly Stedronsky’s previous works that she was a super-de-duper talented author. And if all else failed and I didn’t like the story, then I knew I would have applauded her writing skills in the very least. Well, I won’t keep you in suspense and longer. After the first 10 pages I was hooked, and finished the book in 1 day! It was that awesome!!! I love Eva Reed even more now then I did in the Roam series. And I just adore Cole Mathison. Cole didn’t have a very huge part in the Roam series so it was nice to see his character really take shape and come to life. The banter between the two characters (Eva and Cole) had me laughing out loud so may times that I received the funny looks and curious glances from both kids and husband. The comic relief was a welcomed reprieve after reading some of the disturbing events that take place in the book. Yep, I was grateful for that. Otherwise I would have been sleeping with the lights on, and then, being too afraid to open my shower curtain the next morning.
Honestly I can’t say there was anything that I didn’t like about Eighth Note. The cover art is brilliant, the writing top notch, the premise unique, witty, and captivating. There was resolution in the end but enough of an opening to further continue the Fire Ballad series.
So if your a fan of movies like The Grudge, and Constantine. Love heroines that kick demon arse, spout out snarky retorts, and have a bit of fiery passion then you must read Eighth Note! I promise you will love it.

Although it has been some time since a novel has made me want to look in dark corners, be wary about pulling back a shower curtain or second guess a visit to a remote cabin in the woods, this new novel by Kimberly Stedronsky was that kind of read. Beginning the book fairly late at night, I couldn't put it down until I read the spectacular ending. A spinoff from the popular Roam series written by the same author, characters from the series were introduced and explained enough that you never felt lost or confused.
Smart, beautiful and feisty, Eva Reed has just about everything that she wants: the love of her life, her husband, Will, a beautiful young child, Perry, and a rewarding passion, her blog, Fire Ballad, but she is restless and bored. For someone who has saved not one, but two worlds, this everyday ordinary life leaves a lot to be desired. Cole Mathison, a friend from the past, suddenly appears presenting her with a problem that he thinks she is the perfect person to solve...a murder, a supernatural murder. With her love of music, magic and immortality, Cole believes she will be able to delve through the evidence and find the murderer. After all, everyone else dies after hearing the evidence, but being immortal, she can't die, but would only feel the pain. Believing she can withstand the trials and tribulations that will come, she accompanies Cole to a remote cabin in the Catskills to find the killer. Only things aren't what they seem. Solving this murder will test her love, her sanity and her resolve. Will she place everything on the line or is the price too hard to pay?
Can Will's love save her when she is pulled too far to the dark side?
Or will the supernatural murderer claim her as his prize?
A wonderful and excellent book of paranormal, mystery and intrigue with intense scenes enacted by well written characters. Enthralled from the first to last page, this book was a real page turner. I don't think there was an emotion that I didn't engage. The vivid descriptions, spicy dialogue and emotional content made you feel as if you were present and part of the action. Another fabulous read. Well done Kimberly! I can't wait for your next book.
I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
Recommended to paranormal and romance readers.

"Eighth Note" (Fire Ballad #1) is a truly phenomenal book. It's a spin off from the 'Roam' series and it prominently stars Eva, Will, Cole, along with West and brief moments with Roam. It revolves around Eva and Cole.
Kim has done an amazing job right off the bat with giving a quick run down of Eva's life, which is helpful for anyone not having read the 'Roam' series. (I advise reading the entire series as it gives you a detailed background on all the characters and you'll have time to fall in love with them- well, MOST of them, too).
This story is unique in the sense relating to Eva and her magical powers. I haven't read a book that comes close to the plot of "Eighth Note." There are so many spine-chilling moments in the book and with Kim's descriptive writing, I could visually see everything she was laying out there for the reader. It has a lot of macabre, horrifying events that take place and chilled me to the bone more than once, but I read on and on! (Quite a few 'Holy Sh*t' moments).
Eva helps Cole out with a job- a murder mystery- that only these two could possibly solve, due to several key points involving their backgrounds and history. Not to mention they are immortal. The evil and torturing moments Eva endures is terrifying at best. It's a well-rounded story that, even amongst all the scary-creep-factor going on, still has some 'hot/lust' scenes with sarcastic wit tossed in the mix.
There is so much that goes on in "Eighth Note" and I do not want to spoil anything but I assure you, it is the perfect read for getting into Halloween!

Review:5 stars
General: This book entertained from the start and had all the elements a good mystery needs. From the get go I was a little bored and then BAM it slammed right into the story and talk about creepy, mysterious and consuming! The writing was wonderful and the character of Eva was so easy to connect with and I have to say I loved Cole!
The plot kept me on my toes, guessing wise and page turning once I was sucked in. I felt the elements of mystery writing were perfectly sprinkled in and that the world building was great. I did read this was a spin off from another series- at no point did I feel lost or like I needed additional information. Everything was right there just waiting to be read.
Characters: Eva- Eva is a fun character. Not only is she strong and kickass, she’s also feisty as hell and sarcastic. She has spirit and it’s a good combo to see it paired with being tough as sometimes tough just gets translated into rude.

Kimberly Stedronsky has written another brilliant series. Eighth Note is a spinoff book from the Roam Series featuring two of my favorite characters, Eva and Will, and Logan's son, Cole Mathison.
This book has a brilliant mix of suspense, murder mystery, lots of magic, music, demon and definitely some hot scenes. For the first half of the book, I was starting to get nervous about the sexual tension between two of the characters. I found myself falling in love with Will more in this book. I also love Cole. Eva drives me crazy with her stubborn and feisty nature. I had quite a few laugh out loud funny moments in this book. The ending is suspenseful and I can't wait to read the next book.
Thank you Kimberly for sending me an ARC of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I am a faithful Kimberly Stedronsky reader! And this book does not disappoint. I started reading it while I was traveling for work. So I was all alone in a hotel, and it was dark, and I HAD to put it down because I got creeped out! lol. It's just scary enough to give you the creeps, but not so scary that you can't read it....in a well lit room. :-) Kimberly writes about her characters in a way that even taking into account immortality, magic, demons, and alternative worlds....you still relate to these characters like they are your next door neighbors. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE all of the Roam books, and now the continuation with West and Roam's daughter Eva. I can't recommend it high enough! Get them all! And enjoy! You will thank me. :-)

I don't normally read or watch anything scary... But I loved this series so much that I made an exception. I wanted to stay in touch with the characters that I loved. This book was no disappointment! There was a riveting story line with the promise of more in the future. The reader was reacquainted with favorite characters from the Roam series. Although you don't have to have read the series to follow the book, I highly recommend you do, just because they're great books. Looking forward to more books about Eva!

Eighth Note takes you on a wild ride, after saving another world, Eva is at home and is feeling a little lost. She loves her husband and daughter, but feels as if her magic could be used for something else, something special.
Cole Mathison, comes asking for help. He is also immortal, but he needs Eva to help him find out what really happened to the pop star who died.
Eva and Cole start their journey together, neither has any idea what is in store for them, or what kind of dangers they will face. Or if they will be able to stop the string of suicides that seem to follow after anyone listens to the last song Nina was working on before ending her own life.
While Eva places her life in danger to save countless others, she opens herself up to something that she might not be able to stop, even if she is an immortal. It will take more help than either Eva or Cole thought they would need. And when that helps arrives, can Eva keep them safe as well, or is she the one they should be worried about?
Eva is trying to figure out who or what is now hunting her, she has kept so much of her own unhappiness bottled up that it has only given the evil that is haunting her more fuel in trying to convince Eva he is what she wants and needs.
Eva, Cole, her husband Will, and her parents will have to work together relying on Eva's magic to finally end this nightmare once and for all.
I truly enjoyed this book, it has everything you could be looking for....all wrapped up in one fiery red head. There are parts that have you fanning yourself, sitting on the edge of your seat, wanting to make sure that noise you heard really isn't anything to worry about (but almost being too scared to look), and a love story. What more can you want? If you have read Kimberly's Roam Series (Amazon buy link) then you will get to more of those wonderful characters, but if you have not, Eighth Note is written to where you aren't feeling lost, Kimberly is able to write Eva's past in such a way, that when you read Eva's story you can't help but love her and her crazy red hair.

I'm going to be honest here. I saw the title for this, saw the cover, and signed up. It had to do with music. I'm a sucker for music. Following me so far?
This story is so much more than I thought it was! I mean, wow. What a unique concept and yes, it still had a music tie in. Just with a paranormal/ fantasy type twist. Even better! Finding a story that has various elements of things I love with a sense of originality? SCORE!
Eva is so much more than a kick butt music blogger, mother and wife. Would you believe she's a hero? She's saved a few worlds in her time. I wasn't sure what to think of Eva at first. i mean, it seems she's just a little too rude about her current life. She didn't seem to appreciate what she had. But then again, thinking of the things she's done, maybe she just needs something to remind her of what she's got, and that's exactly what happens.
The story is intriguing, fast paced, exciting, and suspenseful. I couldn't put it down. I'm very interested to see where the author goes with this, and I'll be looking for more reads from this fresh new voice in the writing world.

Excellent! Eva has grown onto the woman we knew she should be. She loves Will, her King and he her, his Queen. Her young age is shown perfectly. West and Roam are here in the nick of time. Cole tells Eva how much kidnapping her haunted him and you see that there really is a worthy dude in there.
Great story. So looking forward to the next book.

I HAD THE PLEASURE OF READING THIS BOOK AND WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED I LIKED IT. I HAVE NEVER REALLY READ BOOKS WITH DEMONS IN SO IT WAS NEW TO ME. I LOVE THE FIERCENESS OF EVA. HER LOYALTY TO HER FAMILY AND THE NEED TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT EVEN IF IT PUTS HERSELF IN DANGER. I WONT GIVE ANY SPOILERS BUT ANY DEMON LOVER THIS IS A GREAT READ FOR YOU.

Kimberly really hit it out of the park with this one. After reading the Roam series this is exactly what I needed. More! The beginning of a new series with familiar characters that we get to know more about. I loved learning more about Cole! Can't wait to see what happens next and who we'll get to know more about. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

If you loved the Roam series then you'll love this series as it stars the daughter of Roam & West. The relationship between Eva & Will is both hot & explosive. I loved that this book took a big supernatural turn and everything was very well written. Lastly, I will mention Cole. *fans self* Yum. ;)
