Overall, really enjoyed this book. A lot of good information. I would have read it higher but for two small things the first one is that it says the ATM machine. The second is there are little asides that are very light writing on very light background and it’s really hard to read for an old lady like me. Otherwise, a lot of up-to-date helpful information.

Thorough and more than your typical guidebook. Some of the boxed-off sections were difficult to read due to extremely poor contrast, however.

Furbee has written a well balanced introduction to Ireland's history, government, places of interest, customs, and culture. It is concise and well organized. It challenges stereotypes and dives into a few backstories of the most familiar parts of the island's past. Furbee gives adequate treatment to modern Ireland too, which was really fascinating. I had no idea how involved Ireland is in the pharmaceutical industry. She covers the arts, literature, music, movies, and so much more. She does a good job of highlighting cities, towns, and villages that have had and continue to have an impact on shaping Ireland's destiny. This book was a good overview for my wife and me as we are preparing for a trip to Ireland.
