This strategic guide will give applicants the insider advice on everything * Planning for graduate school during college--what courses to take and extracurricular activities to get involved in * Researching the best graduate program for each applicant * Preparing an outstanding application and excelling in the interview * Personalized information for all applicants, including minorities, students with disabilities, older students, and international applicants * Detailed advice on how applicants can finance their graduate degree without going too far into debt after graduation
- You have only just started thinking about the possibility of going to graduate school
- You have never dealt with the student loan process personally before
This is significantly less helpful if:
- You already have an idea of what you want to study and where you want to go
- You're already well into the application process
- You are familiar and comfortable with the student loan application process
Overall, the book is an overview, and not a helpful guide if you're already well into planning for graduate school. Just starting to think about grad school? By all means, it will be a helpful read. Pick it up.
A very fine book, but not stellar by any means. Did it get its point across? Yes, of course. However, it went into too much detail on certain aspects and expected a lot out of reader, such as having a year or two to prepare for graduate school, while lacking in other areas, like what to expect on visits, once school starts, and how to make yourself more marketable.
Granted, it's not titled How to Get Through Every Step of Graduate School as We Hold Your Hand Along the Way.
it's hard to know how useful something like this is before applying to grad schools, but i do feel like i learned a few things i hadn't known. some useful links are provided, and the book doesn't try to be authoritative about moving-target matters, which is nice. some subject-area specific info, which is also nice.
