Negotiated Fate

Is fate negotiable?

Yaniqui’s finally made it to the supposed safety of Earth, but at what cost? Her mother’s missing, galactic corporations hunt her for her healing abilities, and she has to live with the man she once loved who’s now married to someone else.

Unbeknownst to Yaniqui, her fate will depend on others also chasing a brighter future. Ippa, once disgraced by university expulsion, has been captured by a bounty contractor en route to Yaniqui. Lozen and D-68 lose all allies trying to right the narrative of an alien understood by no Earthling. Yaniqui herself is under pressure by an Earth government that would like to come due on their investment in her interstellar rescue.

While life on Earth should be an opportunity for Yaniqui to replace the planet and home she lost, it’s not. She fears that more than just not fitting in, fate is broken.

It took me a day to figure out what I wanted to say about this book.

I spent Dangerous to Heal (Book 1) falling in love with the characters, each vivid and unique and relatable in their own way. I finished book one DESPERATE to know what happened to them all.

Negotiated Fate delivered. Knowing their stories had to come together but not knowing what was coming kept me hanging on every word.

I think it’s important to note that I am not generally a sci-fi reader. If you are looking to broaden your genre horizons, I HIGHLY recommend starting with this duology to ease you in. You will not be disappointed.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Negotiated Fate is an exciting sequel to Dangerous to Heal. This sci-fi story is one part romance, one part cringeworthy politics, and two parts fight-the-power action. This blend of peaks and valleys creates a fun, fast-paced plot that will keep you turning pages through the night. Like the first novel, this sequel has a host of spirited characters who get into trouble, make mistakes, and forgive each other. From villains, to heroes, and anti-heroes, you're sure to connect with the characters' smiles and tears. Vibrant planets, complex galaxy politics, and attention to community round out the experience to make for an immersive sci-fi universe. All in, I highly recommend this series as a fun way to escape and enjoy a world that will make you think about your own life and values. Thank you to the author for sharing a free e-book with me in exchange for an honest review.

The events of Dangerous to Heal come to a head in Negotiated Fate, as the disparate but intertwined destinies of our ragtag team of largely refugee protagonists fight against the leviathan of dispassionate intergalactic commerce. Against these impossible odds, our multiple POV characters also face the interpersonal—the all too human (and alien) frustrations in love and loss.

Unlike its direct antecedent, this final entry in the Displacement Duology takes place mostly here, on Earth. Climate change, refugee camps, severe unemployment...the core of Zornow's grand space opera is not so far from home.

This is the second book in the science-fiction Displacement Duology to wrap up the lives of the characters I fell in love with in “Dangerous to Heal.”

If the first book is focused on world and character building then the second book is action packed to bring the story to close. It definitely kept me on my toes! I am so happy and satisfied how Yanqui and her friends’ stories turned out in the end. I also appreciate the parallels between our world and the one Rebecca has created.

Highly recommend this book series to those who are sci-fi lovers and sci-fi curious!

Kudos to Rebecca Zornow for helping me become a Science Fiction lover. Book Two of her Displacement Duology reunited me with the characters I fell in love with in Book One. By the end of Dangerous to Heal, I could not wait to see where these character's journeys would lead them.
What happens is nothing I expected. The high stake choices, intense adventures and suspense kept my heart pounding. I could never have imagined how their stories ended.
I also found many things in Zornow's worlds she created, along with her characters, to apply to our world today. What kind of choices do her characters have to make? What are the consequences?
Same for us today.
