Diary of a Human Lie Detector: Facial Expressions in Love, Lust, and Lies

Rate this book
Finally, the armor comes off! Learn to read the fleeting facial expressions of emotions that are universal to our species and invisible to most people. It's time to look beneath the surface and see what people are actually feeling.

Using juicy, autobiographical pieces about love, lust, and lies, Annie Särnblad elicits emotions in the reader and then shows how and where to see specific feelings on the face. Test yourself as you learn using the book's visual Facial Expressions Glossary.

In Diary of a Human Lie Detector: Facial Expressions in Love, Lust, and Lies , Annie reflects on humanity, relationships, and emotions with her raw, sexy Swedish sensibilities. Her words are poetic and fearless, and you will be surprised, entertained, and a little turned on while reading. It is her deep conviction that facial expressions are taught best through poking, prodding, and play. You will never look at another human face the same way.

Annie is a strategic advisor and global expert in reading microexpressions and has taught workshops for 4,000+ CEOs and Managing Directors. She is certified in the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) and has developed her own, easy-to-absorb teaching techniques for facial expressions based on her 25 years living in nine countries and studying eight languages through immersion.

Annie's students love her spicy stories, outrageous humor, and deep belief that reading expressions correctly makes the world a kinder place for us all. Indeed, it's harder to be crabby with other people when you can see that they are struggling.

I thought this was a well-written book that tells stories and also instructs on the art and science of reading facial expressions. It’s a creative way to discuss something technical, and it was enjoyable to read! Absolutely worth taking a look!

What a fascinating area of study! I can see this having huge positive implications for all sorts of interpersonal relationships: professional, personal, and even every day interactions. I’m especially excited about the possibility of learning to use micro expressions for those who are pre-verbal or nonverbal. What an amazing insight to know what someone may truly be thinking or feeling without needing to use words.

On a more serious note, people with disabilities are abused at a shockingly high rate. I find myself pondering how learning about micro expressions could help law-enforcement and other advocates understand when something is wrong, especially in the nonverbal population.

So many wonderful ways this area of study can be used! Thank you Ms Sarnblad for introducing this important tool.

Just a diary…

I really appreciate this author trying share her knowledge with her audience! However, I just thought this book would have much more to offer.
I was thrown off by the fact that it was all explained as poems. If you love poetry then this is the book for you.
It truly was just like a diary. I had a different idea in mind after seeing her in a couple of podcasts. It doesn’t take away from the fact that her knowledge is super valuable. Its just my opinion

Absolutely loved this book! Got it for Christmas after somehow stumbling onto Annie’s IG page, and now I am obsessed with all this new knowledge and can’t wait to practice. I’m also blown away by how beautiful and autobiographical this book was. I was expecting a textbook of sorts and ended up with a beautiful book of poetry instead. Thank you so much, Annie. Your online course may be next!

This is a fascinating read. Through love poems and her diary excerpts, she explains how to read the subtle changes in facial expressions. I really loved her writing. It's vulnerable and honest
