Loving and Parenting
Harper Black, a 27 -year-old gorgeous single mom and registered nurse with long caramel brown hair, is doing her best to keep the world of her precious 4-year-old daughter stable and happy. Lily’s dad, Tim who had been a part of Harper’s life for over 3-years quickly and definitively stepped back when she became pregnant with Harper. And while he checked in about once a year on his daughter, he had no involvement other than some financial support. So, Harper decided that it was his loss if he didn’t want a relationship with the sweet girl. So, Harper, with the help of her mom, does her best to surround her precious girl with love.
And, over the last year, Harper has begun to introduce a man into Lily’s world—Wyatt Thorpe, a 25-year-old junior attorney in the DA’s office. But recently, Harper has begun to notice some changes with Wyatt’s behavior. While he had never been actively engaged with Lily, Wyatt had been supportive of her—he had even helped Harper with Lily’s daycare costs, but something had changed. Wyatt’s patience—especially with Lily, had changed. And, Harper has noticed that Wyatt’s indulgence in alcohol had increased dramatically. And while a sober Wyatt was sweet and patient, an inebriated Wyatt was sharp tongued, critical and was intolerant of 4-year-old Lily’s behavior. And so, as a mother, Harper is feeling the need to step back from Wyatt. But Ironically, Harper has recently connected that the Chief of Surgery at Hudson Hospital, Owen Thorpe, is dad who, through Wyatt, invites the mother and daughter to join the father and son on a vacation to Barbados.
And so, Harper agrees that she and Lily will join Wyatt and his dad, Owen—a man whose position at the hospital technically makes him her boss—on the tropical vacation. And so, optimistically, Harper hopes that the vacation time will allow the sweet Wyatt to re-emerge in a more relaxing setting. What she never anticipates is that more anti-social Wyatt becomes with his drinking, the more attractive, attentive and caring Harper finds the older Owen, her boss and her boyfriend’s dad.
This romance continues the Forbidden Doctors series of author Sofia Summers, each which while referencing other characters, can be read in isolation. The series follows the friendships and loves of regional medical personnel. I have read all of the preceding romances and have enjoyed them. I especially appreciated that the storyline of this romance was tighter and easier to follow with a more focused structure. I received this romance through BookSprout, but also bought a copy for my Kindle collection.
