Rounded up from 2.5 ⭐️

This story just did not flow well for me.

The smexy scenes- I started skimming bc they were so random and out of place. (Are you really going to bang a girl twice while she is recovering in a dark room from a concussion? 😐)

Don't get me wrong, I love some good smut. This wasn't it though. 😕

I have notes …

While the plot of this book is taboo, and complicated - I did enjoy the book.

What I STRUGGLES with were huge editing issues - so many grammatical errors. It was distracting.

What DROVE ME BONKERS!
Before I say it, I want to state I am a PreK teacher and have worked with children for 20 plus years.

This author wrote a child in the book like she has never met one. Or not a FOUR AND HALF YEAR OLD!

She threw food and sippy cups (most kids this age don’t use those), she slept so much - like long ass naps. Nope. Then. Then! The child falls asleep in a car and they carry her in IN the car seat. Nope. That is like 70 plus pounds. Children that age don’t use baby seats! They use huge installed car seats lol. She has the child speak like a two year old …

Then it made me wonder. Did she write her 2 yrs old, then think the timeline was off so she just aged the child?

Idk. But it didn’t work and was hugely annoying (to me).

Good read.

I liked this story but there were one or two steamy scenes too many for me. It’s not that I’m prudish, most of them were hot, but they just got gratuitous and I ended up scanning them because they were long and didn’t really advance the story.

I liked Owen a lot and felt horrible about how much he hurt when Harper broke things off but I couldn’t even be mad at her about it after everything that was going down. The only reason I got really mad at her was when she lied to him when he saw her again and saw how it tore his heart to shreds.

I like how the entire things made Owen believe in love at first sight and he first met her outside the context of being his horrible son’s girlfriend.

An entertaining read but won’t go on my reread shelf.

Fast paced, soapy drama . H was good, maybe too much of a pushover h was nice but sometimes an idiot. Alcoholic son/boyfriend is abusive and he is not punished enough for wrongs he does to h. Comes to live at home with the H and h after rehab. He should be locked up for years after multiple assaults, stalking culminating in car chase until she crashed and is nearly killed. sorry but forgiveness is not forgetting when it comes to violent DV

Was It Really Forbidden!

This is the love story of Dr. Owen Thorpe and Harper Black, RN. This book took off like gangbusters. The Prologue grabbed my attention immediately. The first chapters introduced Owen and Harper. He was Director of Surgery at the same hospital where she's a nurse, however they didn't know each other because they worked in different departments. They ran into each other when he was called in to operate on a boy and she was his nurse.

He was immediately taken with her but she was busy with the patient and barely noticed him. They next met when going on vacation. He had arranged a vacation with his son and his son's girlfriend. He knew his son, Wyatt, was dating a woman who had a small child but had never met her. He was shocked when he discover Harper was the nurse he had been and still was attracted to. Harper knew her boyfriend's husband was a doctor but didn't know who he was. That was a little unbelievable.

I knew things would get complicated but never thought the story would devolve into a sexfest! There was enough interesting storyline to keep me reading but the sex took up too much of the remaining book. It's a shame because the plot was interesting with Harper breaking up with Wyatt who was abusive and a drunk.

There was much more story left but it became overshadowed by the sex. It would have been better if the author had given more backstory on the characters. Why was Wyatt's mother not in the picture and was that reason he was a drunk? Why was Harper a single mother and why did her 4-yr old behave like a toddler who was going through the terrible twos? Why was Harper always taking her daughter on dates when her mother couldn't babysit? Surely she could afford a babysitter, nothing indicated that she was having money problems.

In spite of the often descriptive and graphic sex, the book was worth reading but the plot could have been more fully developed with more backstory on the characters.

1.5 ⭐️ rounded up

A few things made me irritated in the book, among those was that the description in the blurb didn't actually fit the book, the part described in the blurb also didn't happen until late late in the book. Since it's in the blurb I thought it would happen soones.

The premise was good for the story imo it just needed more editing.

This could have been so much more, but it was not the taboo romance it could have been. The only person who had an issue was the abusing/alcoholic ex boyfriend who the FMC and MMC (the dad) kept enabling. They kept talking about how he needs help, but let’s not call the cops when he’s assaulting his ex gf (the MMC’s current gf). And while we hope he’s sleeping off the alcohol, let’s just randomly bang.

And that’s the whole storyline.

As for how the book was written, it was very low quality. Conversations didn’t seem genuine or even flow normally, the pacing was really off, and the smexy stuff felt really displaced.

this book is great!

I wasn’t exactly sure of what I was getting myself into with the title, and since I’m a going in blind without reading the blurb kind of girl it was a good surprise. The storyline was good and the character development was on point. There were many steamy moments for those of you that love those parts. However, there were many lessons to be learned as well. I do suggest this book if you don’t mind the taboo aspect of ending up with your ex-boyfriend’s father. This was definitely a good read.

Interesting story

Harper is seeing Wyatt, but his drinking is out of control. After a bad night, his father, Owen, comforts her, and they begin a relationship.
This isn't a bad story, but it's full of cliches, hence the three stars.

It is MORE!

I was pleasantly surprised. This book was more. It had more drama, angst, romance, and steam. It wasn’t just a quick hook up and then forever. We got to see the couple try to make a relationship work even with the odds against them. This was also about some of the supporting characters which added so much to the story.

I really enjoyed the journey the author took us in to get to their HEA!

My Ex-Boyfriend's Dad is book five in Part of: Forbidden Doctors series. A full-length standalone novel with no cheating, no cliffhanger and complete with guarantee HEA. A smartly written story with related characters and a fascinating storyline that captures the audience attention from the first chapter and keeps you hooked, and riveted and turning the pages until the end. Loving and Parenting

Harper Black, a 27 -year-old gorgeous single mom and registered nurse with long caramel brown hair, is doing her best to keep the world of her precious 4-year-old daughter stable and happy. Lily’s dad, Tim who had been a part of Harper’s life for over 3-years quickly and definitively stepped back when she became pregnant with Harper. And while he checked in about once a year on his daughter, he had no involvement other than some financial support. So, Harper decided that it was his loss if he didn’t want a relationship with the sweet girl. So, Harper, with the help of her mom, does her best to surround her precious girl with love.

And, over the last year, Harper has begun to introduce a man into Lily’s world—Wyatt Thorpe, a 25-year-old junior attorney in the DA’s office. But recently, Harper has begun to notice some changes with Wyatt’s behavior. While he had never been actively engaged with Lily, Wyatt had been supportive of her—he had even helped Harper with Lily’s daycare costs, but something had changed. Wyatt’s patience—especially with Lily, had changed. And, Harper has noticed that Wyatt’s indulgence in alcohol had increased dramatically. And while a sober Wyatt was sweet and patient, an inebriated Wyatt was sharp tongued, critical and was intolerant of 4-year-old Lily’s behavior. And so, as a mother, Harper is feeling the need to step back from Wyatt. But Ironically, Harper has recently connected that the Chief of Surgery at Hudson Hospital, Owen Thorpe, is dad who, through Wyatt, invites the mother and daughter to join the father and son on a vacation to Barbados.

And so, Harper agrees that she and Lily will join Wyatt and his dad, Owen—a man whose position at the hospital technically makes him her boss—on the tropical vacation. And so, optimistically, Harper hopes that the vacation time will allow the sweet Wyatt to re-emerge in a more relaxing setting. What she never anticipates is that more anti-social Wyatt becomes with his drinking, the more attractive, attentive and caring Harper finds the older Owen, her boss and her boyfriend’s dad.

This romance continues the Forbidden Doctors series of author Sofia Summers, each which while referencing other characters, can be read in isolation. The series follows the friendships and loves of regional medical personnel. I have read all of the preceding romances and have enjoyed them. I especially appreciated that the storyline of this romance was tighter and easier to follow with a more focused structure. I received this romance through BookSprout, but also bought a copy for my Kindle collection.

Harper Black, R.N. & Dr. Owen Thorpe work at the same hospital but have never met. The first time Owen has ever seen her is during a consultation with a child's parents about his brain surgery. The minute he saw her he was in love. Which is laughable because he doesn't believe in stuff like that. So, imagine his surprise when they pick up Wyatt’s girlfriend, and it's ‘The Nurse,’ the next morning with her daughter, Lily. So, they all can fly out for a week's vacation on a private jet. Let's just say it's not going to be relaxing or anything near restful. Harper’s first thought is, She should have broke off with him before even thinking about this trip. Wyatt is wound tight. In the car because he can't vape with, Lily in the car. He yells at her. The minute they are on the plane he’s drinking, Whiskey. Doesn’t dream of helping with luggage. Too, self-absorbed. Wyatt is a grown man-child and a lawyer, at that. He is acting the way he does because the people in his life tolerate it. How is he still working, and making a living? And if the plane ticket home is any indication, then we all know why. Guilt that his mommy left him, has Owen accepting behavior from, Wyatt that he wouldn’t accept, from his students and residents. They're not even in the bungalow an hour when he runs out of his drink of choice. He grabs, Harper telling her she will drive him. He raises his hand before his dad can stop him. What bothers me is that they both take it in stride. Granted they are in a foreign country, but... Why didn't just call the police on Wyatt and have him arrested? His actions warrant it yet, all Owen does is make excuses. Even when a neighbor calls. Irritated is how I feel after reading this book. The doctor never reports the son even when he slaps the woman he loves more than once, stalks her, and lets himself into her home after they break up. But, he does let him drink and drive. SUCKER is written on Daddy's forehead. Yup, not my favorite characters all lack maturity.

My Ex-Boyfriend's Dad is a standalone age-gap romance by Sofia T Summers.

If you're like and likes to over analyse the age gaps, here is what I could figure out - Harper, the female MC is around 27ish, her ex, Wyatt. is 25ish and Owen, hot doctor and father to Wyatt is 45ish. Now that's out of the way:

The story starts with Harper, unhappy but unsure what to do when it comes to her boyfriend. She is at the end of her rope because Wyatt is an alcoholic and she has a young daughter to protect, who Wyatt seems to resent. She works with Owen, he's a doctor and she's a nurse, but doesn't realise that he's Wyatt's dad.

Owen tries his best to help his son. He knows the young man has a lot of issues that contribute to his alcoholism, but there seems to be very little that Owen can do. Owen had checked out Harper at work, attracted to her physically but also to the compassion he saw her demonstrate to a patient. When he sees his son treat her like trash, he is torn. But then Harper breaks up with Wyatt. Then things get complicated because the attraction is deep and it is fully reciprocated.

This is an enjoyable age gap romance, the characters feel real. While Wyatt is the "villain" of the book there is a great compassion that Harper and Owen give him. There's also a surprise pregnancy for those that like that trope. The next book in the series focuses on another doctor, Harper's best friend and sometimes babysitter. I'm definitely wanting to read that one.

This is a very taboo topic. And the way the two get together is even more taboo. But I loved it. You can see the gradual build of their relationship and the pitfalls of their romance.

Owen is an older doctor who thought love was off the table after his ex-wife did a number on him. Harper was the most unlucky-in-love woman. She found out she was pregnant and her boyfriend left her to fend for herself. Lily is so adorable, how could you not fall in love with her?

Owen sees her in the hospital taking care of a young boy getting ready for surgery. Harper slips away without talking to him. It's not until he picks her up for a trip with his son to Barbados. The way his son talks to Harper, I wanted to punch him. I couldn't believe the ain both Harper and Owen had for him.

And that is where the story takes a taboo turn. Owen is kind to Harper and Lily. He even acts like a father to Lily. Harper sees a real man in him. When Harper and Wyatt go out to dinner, he berates her even more. And he hits on a waitress. That's when she knew she had enough and broke up with him.

Owen is there when she gets home. Their attraction to one another was instantaneous. And well they end up together. While Wyatt is away.

Another beautiful age-gap romance from Sofia Summers. It's a perfect compliment to her other stories in this series. And Harper's best friend Ben will also have a romance in the next book. Can't wait!.

My ex-boyfriends dad

Okay, I'm beginning to think this author should have TW for her books. This book contains domestic violence, stalking, assault, addiction, DUI, and enabling behavior. Honestly, I don't think this author comprehends child development. A 4.5 year old is NOT a toddler they are school-aged. It was cringy to have the fmc tolerate Wyatts' abuse because that's what it was. Let's not sugar coat it, HE HIT HER, then he body shamed her, then proceeded to hit on a waitress in front of her, and that's when she calls it quits? Not when he clearly hates her child and constantly runs her child down or when he hits her, nope, it's when he makes a pass at another woman. She then turns around after dumping Wyatt and sleeps with his father the same night. That was trashy, in my opinion. Wyatt proceeds to stalk her throughout the book and physically assault her. She does NOT press charges or anything. Doormat behavior. He gets 2 DUIs, and instead of going to jail, he goes to rehab that he bails on??? His father is an enabler. She's a doormat, and Wyatts is an alcoholic that's an abusive pos. Enough said. And after what do you know it, getting drunk and driving with a suspended license, he runs the fmc off the road he goes to rehab, NOT JAIL... I think this author needs a reality check because for contemporary romance, this seems more fantasy and not realistic . He would be behind bars after the first DUI, let some the second or 3rd where he caused bodily harm to another. Ffs

Fate Finally Brought Them True Love -
The last this Harper expected when she broke up with her boyfriend, was to find herself embarking on a relationship with his father. Owen was smitten with Harper from the moment he laid eyes on her, but finding out she was his son’s girlfriend was a blow to him. However, when Harper broke up with her boyfriend because she had reached her limit, she grabbed her chance to find happiness.

Unfortunately, their relationship didn’t run smoothly, as Harper’s ex-boyfriend wasn’t prepared to let her go. They tried holding on to their relationship, but Harper decided to walk away so she could stay safe and maintain her sanity. Even though she made the decision break up with Owen, this didn’t seem to make a difference, as she found herself in hospital.

As luck would have it, her accident turned out to be a blessing, as she not only received life changing new, but she finally acknowledged her feelings for him and accepted his affection towards her. This story was a beautiful, sinfully sexy, and angst-filled romance, that had me hooked from the beginning. The storyline was amazing and the chemistry between the characters really sets the pages on fire. Grab a copy of this book and you will be happy with your decision.

Started out fine for what I expected.

But I draw the line at enabling and defending abusive alcoholics who regular drive under the influence. I don't care, if my hypothetical son behaved like this and I'm witnessing it, it called the cops on him asap, sorry not sorry.

And those side characters? Despicable.
You listen to rumors more than your bffs opinion and constantly undermine her and her relationship with a man you don't know anything about besides said rumors? Not it.
You outright tell your daughter that she should break up with her boyfriend because she is in the way of a father and son meddling their relationship? Again, not it.

Also, someone apparently doesn't know how a four year old behaves or rather should behave. Trainer diapers, totally okay. But the eating with hands, car seats that can be carried, the way she spoke, calling her a baby all the time? Not so much. But maybe all the four year olds I know and worked with were just more advanced?

Oh and I almost forgot, what's with all the sex? Don't get me wrong, I like smut just as much as the next person. But you don't have to write about every time they do it. Like every single time, 2-3 continous chapters. For a woman who never wanted to have sex when her daughter is sleeping under the same roof, they did it a lot while her daughter was sleeping under the same roof....

Dr Nurse romance

This was an ok romance.
Dr Owen Thorpe sees a nurse and is instantly attracted to her, imagine his shock that it's his sons girlfriend.
There was drama throughout, a love hate relationship between father , son and girlfriend.
The son verbally abused his girlfriend numerous times and she eventually ended it and then slept with his father.
Unfortunately the father excused The bad behaviour on the fact his mother left when he was 12 yes old, for me 10 or more years later that's a weak excuse.
The son but her during the story a few times and I was disappointed in how the father reacted to both the verbal and physical abuse. It aS very blase, and the same with his alcoholism, he excused it so much it was a crutch for the son he got no repercussions whatsoever. The storyline was actually good I enjoyed it, the only thing that split it was as I said the lack of conviction over the abuse. It would have been great to see the father actually step up to his son to show a strength not weakness over his actions. He's ending was ok but I felt missed the son meeting his new sibling and being sober, as it was left its not known if he relapsed or got his life together.

Owen and Harper's story.

The first time Owen saw Harper at the hospital, she was taking blood work from a little boy who was going to have surgery. He was attracted to her for her compassion and mild demure presence. He also found her curves very alluring.
He had plans to go to Barbados with his son and his girlfriend. He never would have expected it to be Harper and her little girl, Lily. While on vacation, Wyatt got drunk and was abusive to Harper. Owen came to her defense and told Wyatt to knock it off. She broke up with him. She couldn't take his verbal and physical abuse.
She went to Owen's room that night for comfort and never realized she would have sex with him that night.
Wyatt found out and left her there. He was drinking again.
This story is about two people who fall in love but must climb through some unsurmoutable obstacles. Wyatt is out of control and keeps driving drunk and stalks her. He blames everyone but himself. His mother left him as a child, and he can't live with the rejection.
So he buries his emotions by drinking. He blames his Dad.
Owen loves Harper, and he will do what it takes to win her back.
Great love story even with the age difference. Love knows no age limit if it is true love.
Loved the story by Sophia T. Summers

Wow! Harper & Owen's story was full of ups & downs which had me hooked. For Owen it was love at first sight when he saw her as a nurse at his hospital but when he found out she was his son Wyatt's girlfriend he was shocked but tried to enjoy the holiday they were on with Harper's young daughter Lily.
He wasn't happy about the way Wyatt was treating Harper especially the when he was drunk & saw him violent to her.
Harper hadn't been happy with Wyatt because of his drinking & not liking her daughter so when she ended the relationship she found comfort with Owen.
They became close & he told her ow he felt about her & Lily but she knew Wyatt's drinking was getting worse so not wanting to get between father & son she tried to stay away.
I felt sorry for her with how she was struggling aswell as Owen being torn between the woman he loved & his son whose drinking was getting worse& I wanted to grab Wyatt & drag him to read to sort himself out.
There was a lot of steam, anger, dram & tears before we could see a possible happy ever after.

This story is about Harper a single mom who is dating Wyatt a successful young man that turns into a drunk, gets physical and down right mean to her. Wyatt has abandonment issues he never dealt with. Harper is a nurse that gets noticed by Dr. Owen being taken in by her care and beauty. Owen never remarried or dated much after his first marriage but thinks about it with Harper. While on vacation together they all realize Owen is Wyatt’s dad and Harper works at the same hospital as Owen and Wyatt becomes increasingly cruel and mean to Harper making everyone uncomfortable. One night Harper hits her limit and breaks up with Wyatt only to find herself consoled by Owen and spending a beautiful night together. Their worlds get turned upside down, Wyatt becoming more dangerous, Harper walking away from Owen to ensure Wyatt gets the help he needs and Owen becomes distraught over losing Harper. It’s beautiful to see how love heals this family and brings them together for all the right reasons. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Dr. Owen Thorpe is the Chief of Surgery at the hospital. He had sworn off dating after being hurt by his ex-wife. During a pre-surgery meeting, Owen is enamored with a young nurse who is helping his patient, a little boy. After the surgery, Owen is taking a week long vacation to Barbados. He is taking his son Wyatt with him. Wyatt calls him with a question about the trip and Owen can tell Wyatt has been drinking. Wyatt took his mother leaving hard and when he turned 21, he turned to drinking to cope.

Wyatt has been dating Harper for about six months and she has a four year old daughter named Lily. They are going on the trip too. Harper is hoping that Wyatt will enjoy spending time with both of them and hopes he drinks less on vacation.

What happens when Owen realizes that Harper is the nurse he is attracted to? What happens when Wyatt’s drinking is out of control?

I was rooting for Harper the whole time.

My Ex-Boyfriend's Dad was a quick paced read told by either Harper or Owen. His son, Wyatt, is always drunk and got physical but of course, there were many other red flags like not liking Harper's daughter but they kept dating until she couldn't take any more.

When his father, Owen, consoles her after the break up it becomes more. There are twists and turns to the story as well as many stories being told. There is a lot of loving and comparisons by Harper of Owen and Wyatt. There is also the pull by both to do the right thing for Wyatt. The story brings in characters we've met before and the second epilogue gives us hints of her best friend's Ben's story. There was closure and a happily ever after in the offing.

While Ms. Summers always takes me out of my comfort zone I always return since her characters are likable and draw me in.

My Ex-Boyfriend's Dad is an age gap, pregnancy romance. It follows Dr. Owen Thorpe the head of surgery at Hudson, RN Harper Black her daughter Lily and her ex-boyfriend Wyatt Thorpe.

Harper was dating Wyatt in the beginning until that relationship crumbled due to his drinking, disrespect and escalating verbal abuse. What she never expected was to be drawn to his father Owen who was there in her time of need. As they are drawn closer and things become physical and emotional between them the more unstable her ex Wyatt becomes. It's not the typical easy go lucky storyline it has alcoholism, abuse and obsession that escalates to a dangerous level. It also has a beautiful underlying story about hope, healing, faith, forgiveness, family and above all else love. Oh and sweet Lily will steal your heart.

I received an ARC through Booksprout an I'm voluntarily leaving my review.

My Ex-Boyfriend's Dad. This book was unbelievable. I was captivated by the story. It was different than I expected. Harper was dating Wyatt, but he was treating her so badly because of his drinking problem and nobody knew. Dr. Owen saw Harper in one of his patient's room and thought she was the most beautiful woman he ever saw. When Owen took his son, Wyatt, and his girlfriend on vacation, that is when he discovered the woman was Harper. While on vacation things get out of hand. Wyatt abuses Harper and Owen steps in. What they didn't expect was to discover they had feelings for each other. Wyatt goes crazy and accused his dad of taking his girlfriend. This causes all kinds of problems and it nearly kills Harper. This is a must read book. ! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's.

This goes down as being the most awkward start of a romance I've ever read. Owen goes on vacation which his degenerate son Wyatt and Wyatt's girlfriend Harper. In the first 24 hours, he witnesses Wyatt hit Harper, to which Owen responds "Woah buddy... you should have a walk to calm down." Then Wyatt calls Harper a fat idiot at breakfast and Owen's like, "Why don't I babysit so you can have a nice dinner tonight!"

Dude. You're the reason your son is the way he is.

The kid is supposed to be 4, but reads more like a 2 year old. It’s jarring since parenting is such a big feature in this book.

I found the smut to be awkward. Especially the dialogue during sex.

Owen starts love bombing Harper immediately. There was an electrical charge whenever he touched her. They can’t resist each other. The whole thing would have read better of this had been a PNR shifter romance with fated mates where Owen is a werewolf. 😜

Overall, this turned out to be a pretty good read. I liked Harper and wanted happiness for her and after all was said and done Owen was who she wanted and who she felt could make her happy. I definitely agreed it wasn’t Wyatt. He was such a jerk. I don’t know how Harper put up with him for so long. I was so appalled throughout the book at his behavior. It actually made her getting with Owen even easier to handle because Wyatt totally deserved it. But it sometimes made me think less of Owen because the first time a certain incident happened I felt like he should have been done making excuses for his son if that’s not the kind of man he raised. This ended up being one of those books where I just had to suspend my thoughts of what I would and wouldn’t put up with and just read. Once I did that the book became a pretty quick, entertaining read. It had me flipping through the pages quickly and I’d certainly check out more books in this series and from this author.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Harper Black & Owen Thorpe. When this book opens we find that Harper has been in a car accident and she has just learned she is pregnant with Owen's child. That is when we learn that Harper was dating Owen's son. Lately though that just seems like a mistake to her. When she sees Owen though something changes for her. Owen is a brilliant surgeon and head of his department in the hospital. He is a man who lives for his work but has no real social life outside of it though. One look at a nurse when he goes into a patient's room makes him want to change that. Will they find a HEA or will others make sure that never happens?

Another amazing story by this author. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Harper was dating Wyatt, she knew that it wasn’t working out, Wyatt didn’t care about her daughter, and he drank a lot. She just didn’t want to break it off with his drinking issues, until he pushed her too far.
Wyatt’s father had seen what was going on and Owen had seen Harper before but didn’t know she was dating his son, but seeing how Wyatt was treating her he couldn’t help but help her with her daughter. No one was more surprised than him when Harper comes into his room after breaking up with his son. He knows that Harper is someone he could spend the rest of his life with after seeing her at the hospital before knowing who she was.
Harper decides although she loves him it’s best to not be with him with too much damage and her ex needs his father more than her.
When Owen does a friend a favour and works in the ER for a shift, it changes everything.
