About the author

Tracey West is the New York Times bestselling author of Dragon Masters, a series in the Scholastic Branches line. She has written more than 400 books for kids, including the Pixie Tricks series and the Underdogs series with Kyla May.

Some readers also know Tracey for writing books based on animation such as Pokémon and LEGO Ninjago.

She currently lives in the western Catskills of New York with her husband, Bill; their adopted dogs; and a whole mess of chickens.

I mean if you have read all the other books this book is kinda silly to read. My son was hoping for more deep info about the dragons and their masters and not just a recap of what we learn in the other books.

I somehow missed the Dragon Masters series; it's aimed at elementary readers who are just starting to get into chapter books, with each volume being about 96 pages long. This Epic Guide is just that; discussions of the characters, the creatures, the villages, castles, and area surrounding all of the action of the books. Since I haven't read the books, I was a bit lost, but the artwork is fantastic, and I can see fans of the 28 book series reading this until it falls apart.

One of my former students who is in high school is reading Lord of the Rings aloud to his much younger brother (who is in second grade), and this would be a perfect series for the brother to tackle on his own. My own children would have adored this; they grew up to own their own copies of Lord of the Rings Risk. Think of Dragon Masters as Geek Training Wheels!
