I have not read a book by Sally Hart before, but I really hope to read more from her in the future. I read this psychological thriller in one go and kept reading until the middle of the night because I just wanted to know how it ended. In fact, the author has put many twists and turns into the story, leaving the outcome uncertain till the end. Agonisingly and nail-bitingly suspenseful!

I must confess that I have a bad habit - I did it as a child too - whenever I read a suspenseful book, I always read the end of the story first because I just didn't have the patience to wait and see how it would end. Well, this time I managed to hold back, even though I had a really hard time at times!
The author puts the reader on the wrong track every time, and each time I thought: yes, of course, it's him! And a few chapters later it turned out not to be so again!
The story remained exciting until the end, and yet I also regularly shouted at my Kindle for Sarah when she did something again that I knew would not end well. Incidentally, I suspected just about every main character in the book.

The story is very ingeniously put together, and revolves around a young nurse with a traumatic past. She begins to seriously doubt her sanity when she suspects someone is in her house, - sometimes things are moved, and she finds flowers on the table. She can’t remember having bought them, or maybe they were a present? By whom?
Or did she do it herself after all, and maybe she forgot because of the stress of work? She honestly doesn't remember. She can't talk about it with her best friend Anne Darcy either, since she has suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth and that is nothing like her.

Meanwhile, things are really not going well for Sarah, she is anxious and plagued by terrible images in her head. Then when the faces in photos are cut out, she even blackouts. What is going on (with her) l? Is she seriously losing her mind?

The book evokes some 'familiar' phenomena, for instance, I found the Evil Snowman really creepy. And perhaps also fun for the film buffs among us: many famous books and films pass by. (My personal favourite, by the way, was definitely Grizzly Adams. How I enjoyed that series at the time!)
I found the alternating POV with the killer really scary. He was stalking Sarah and frankly he gave me chills. During the flashback, I felt very sorry for him for a moment, - knowing that everything happened the way it did - but that feeling quickly turned into bewilderment at the end - because it is clear that this kind of horrific behaviour can never be justified, whatever happened and however it came about.
Anyway, having suspected just about everyone in the book (including the 'Grizzly Adams'), it is now sadly over. Call me evil - but I can't get enough of this kind of stories. This novel met all expectations - and I enjoyed reading the book tremendously. Highly recommended. A seriously good thriller!

Out of Her Mind
by Sally Hart

4 🌟🌟🌟🌟

“Did it really happen, was I really there, was I really there with you?” ~ Jimmy Buffett – Queue the music box with ballerina dancer for this psychological thriller! Sally Hart, a new-to-me author truly did not disappoint when it came to checking all the boxes in her debut novel, Out of Her Mind. For me, this was an easy and engaging read, as I didn’t mind the slight suspension of disbelief when it came to the ease and willingness of some of the relationships within the novel. Hart’s novel had everything I need in a thriller:
secrets
amnesia (repressed memories)
romance
police procedural
plot twists
red herrings

l thought I was reading it with a fine-toothed comb, and it still had be surprised in the end! I truly hope to read more by Hart in the future!

Picture this, you are into character studies, but rather than going through the usual route of family, drama, maybe you want to step into a bit darker, but are scared of gore, but then you want to get into it anyway. Guess what, this is one of those books you can pick up.

I was a bit curious looking at the blurb, as I am always in the need of these refresher reads, but then I am a sucker for character awareness that I can't pick up light reads without needing something to bite in.

The story is just wow. I was a bit intimidated that the book was going to be a long one, but surprisingly it got right into it. This was a very fast paced one, I just couldn't stop reading it.

I couldn't figure out who the killer was, however hard I tried to, but then when the puzzle unravelled, that was stunning.

It was really interesting to get into the perspective of the killer, his thought processes, however bad his intentions were possibly due to his messed up childhood, kudos to the writer for bringing such a character to life.

All in all, I really enjoyed the rollercoaster ride till the end. Feelings of romantic connection between Peter and Sarah were a nice touch.

Book Recommendation - Definitely

Psychological thrillers are my favourite genre at the minute, and this one didn't disappoint! I was gripped from the start wondering what was going on with this troubled nurse. I wasn't sure whether it was all in her head or someone was messing with her.

The author has a brilliant way of placing red herrings throughout the book. Every time a new character was added , I immediately became suspicious of them! My mind constantly flipped between Sarah, imagining it all, and one of the new characters tormenting her. I loved how I didn't really know until right at the end.

The only issue I had with this book was the relationship between Sarah and Peter. It just didn't ring true to life that a DCI would get so involved with a victim within a few days of meeting them. Having said that, it did bring an interesting aspect to the case having Peter involved at every step.

The chapters from the killers' POV were some of my favourite as they were really chilling and creepy. They gave nothing away as to who the killer was but made me try my hardest to put the clues together. The flashback scenes almost made me feel sorry for him but not quite!

Out Of Her Mind was a fabulous thriller.
Again, one book I found I could not guess and with many twists and turns, I kept getting it wrong. It makes you suspect every character in the book.
I had got to 21% and I was still confused in terms of what was happening but it was around this time that everything came together and made sense.

Sarah, one of the main characters in the book, has a traumatic past and had to go through a lot of self doubt as she is suffering from repressed memories so she begins to doubt her sanity.
After finding things moved in her house and flowers on the table, she has no idea if someone is in her home or if she doesnt remember these things.
Her best friend and usual person to talk to has disappeared without a trace and with each day that passes Sarah becomes more worried.
Things from her past are then dragged up and she has to relive horrible and awful things her brain has deliberately shut out.
The killers POV adds a creepy element to the book but as the storyline moves on, you begin to understand.
Really really recommend this!!

Sarah has unknowingly been suppressing memories from the tragic event that left her mother dead and her brother with health issues requiring full time care. What she thinks are delusions may actually be snippets of the truth of what actually happened that day but she believes she is having some sort of breakdown mentally. When she meets DCI Peter Graham, who is currently hunting the serial killer known as the Beautician, it seems the events from her past and his case may be intertwined.

I love a good psychological thriller and although I felt this was a little slow in places the story did move quickly especially in the last 25%. This was helped by the short chapters and the multiple POV’s which were brilliantly written. We are introduced to several characters and I think I had them all pegged as the killer at some point so hats off to the author for keeping me guessing.

If you enjoy a classic psychological thriller then I’d definitely recommend the author and I look forward to reading more of her books.

Thrillers are my go to books at the minute and this one was a great read. The title intrigued me, the storyline sounded interesting and I was drawn into the story early on. I got a little bit confused with all the names but I got better as the story progresses. I like the multiple pov's in this, one of them being the killer, it adds suspense as it's from each characters perspective.

I was kept guessing until the end who the killer was which meant that I found out who it was the same time Sarah did. I wasn't sure of the closeness of Peter during the story to Sarah, seemed a bit over bearing at times. Sarah has a lot to deal with during this book, a friend going missing, a traumatic childhood with suppressed memories and a killer on the loose. I really feel for her at times throughout the book.

Well worth a read, I liked Carolyn, she's not someone you'd want to cross in a dark alley if you hurt or upset someone she cares about. I will look out for more from Sally in the future!

This book was a rollercoaster of tension and emotion. I loved how Sally Hart didn’t just give us a straightforward mystery, she entwined Sarah’s past trauma into the suspense so we could see how grief and memory can twist perception. The pacing was brilliant; just when I thought I had everything figured out, another layer would unfold. The nightmares Sarah has are described so vividly that I could almost see them myself. The whole theme of questioning one’s own sanity really resonated with me, because it made me think about how fragile the mind can be under pressure. What impressed me most was how Sarah’s profession as an ICU nurse was woven into the story not just as a job, but as a lens through which she views life, death, and sanity. By the end, I was emotionally drained but in the best way possible. This is not just a thriller; it’s a deeply human story.

I am so sorry that I can't give this book the five-star glowing reports of other reviewers.
The storyline itself was a good concept, although the repressed memory thing seems to have already been done to death. No pun intended.
Sarah, our protagonist, I found to be really annoying, frequently going against well-intended advice to put herself in precarious situations. The budding romance with the DCI just didn't ring true with no chemistry between them at all.
I found it to be very clunky and disjointed with characters suddenly appearing into the story. I found myself double-checking to see if I'd missed them in earlier chapters.
The ending just seemed to drag on and on and stretched believability to the limit.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books for the ARC.

I enjoyed reading this suspenseful story. This my first book by this author which I enjoyed their use of details to make the story come to life on each page. This is a well written story about locked past memories and just maybe not everyone has a future. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their world from the start. They are connectable and I enjoyed watching their growth. They add so much to the story's entertainment value. This is a fast paced, engaging story that has twist and turns that had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. I needed to know what happened next with these characters for sure. You don't want to miss this one. I highly recommend this book.

This book was AWESOME! Honestly, it kind of blew my mind! Thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller.

I loved the short chapters and the different points of view they brought us. I really enjoyed reading from the killers POV and seeing inside their mind and thought process. It was very sick and twisted and there were point my jaw was lying on the floor in total shock. I also felt it was a bit brutal at points!

The pace of the story was perfect for me and I really enjoyed how it all played out. I found myself wanting to pick it up constantly and when I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it.

A fantastic read, highly recommend this one if you like a fast paced and twisted psychological thriller!

Well this was a cracking read! From the start it has me questioning everything I was reading. The multiple POVs, the flashbacks, Sarah being a character that I couldn’t decipher whether she was truthful or not - basically it had it all going on and I loved it. Loved it so much I could barely put it down and finished it in a day.

The writing is so well done. It takes you so long to try and fit the pieces together and to be able to write as the killer without giving away who it is too much just left me wondering constantly who was the right person! And even then every time I guessed I was horrificly wrong! It’s just incredible writing that really does keep you guessing. A fast paced thriller that I will definitely recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and did not see the end coming - it kept me hooked right until the end.
There are weird goings on in Sarah’s life - her friend has disappeared and things are being moved in her house but, due to previous problems, no one takes her seriously. Sarah suffered a significant trauma as a child but the truth was kept from her. As she begins to discover what is going on she relies on DCI Peter Graham who is trying to solve a series of murders.
A really well written, clever story that keeps you hanging until the very end!
I was given an ARC of this book but all views expressed are my own.

I love a good psychological thriller, and this did not disappoint. Although we know who the killer is, there were still plenty of twists to keep me reading.

This is a multi POV story and I really liked that one of those was the killer. I loved knowing what he was thinking. For me that adds another dimension to a classic psychological thriller.

The characters were all realistic, at times I found myself getting frustrated that they couldn't see who the killer was, but of course they are in the book, and therefore don't have the advantage of reading the book.

I'll definitely be looking out for more by this author.

This is a stunning debut novel. In an overcrowded genre surely fast approaching saturation point it gets rarer and rarer to find something fresh and original. Sally Hart's story is one of those rare finds.
I found this book totally engaging from the very beginning. Whilst following all the tropes of the genre the author has created an original and compelling plot. The characterisation is razor-sharp.
I was continually caught out by the twists and turns in the story; the well-placed red herrings; and loved all the suspense.
Can't wait to see what the author does next.

A well written and gripping read which keeps you guessing and turning the page. The plot line is tightly controlled with little clues being revealed bit by bit. It seems as if many of the characters could be under suspicion, and, indeed, even Sarah could be a possible culprit rather than victim. There is, quite definitely, too much horror and violence for my taste, but that is more a reflection on my state of mind and need for mental comfort, rather than a criticism of the novel. Despite this, I couldn’t put the book down and read it from cover to cover.

I absolutely loved this book and finished in one sitting. I couldn't wait to find out what was happening with Sarah. The story was told in multiple POVs, and one of them was the killer. I really loved how Hart has written. It had me hooked.

Introduction to new characters were written very well, and I really thought he was the killer. But obviously, it wasn't. I was guessing until the end. Another plus point was short chapters, and it just kept me on the edge.

I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller with twists and turns I didn't see it coming. Definitely recommend Out of Her Mind.

Sally Hart - you made me feel really uncomfortable in this one, especially with not knowing which men in Sarah's life I could trust in this story. I liked how there was dual thrilling stories surrounding her - one from her childhood and one from her current life. This was a book that I was not able to read in the dark as it had me looking for shadows in the corners of my room. I had 3/4 suspects for who was responsible and boy was I wrong about who it was and they were never on my radar as a bad guy.

What a psychological thriller this was! I thought the multiple POV’s were brilliantly written even if I did like knowing the killers thoughts it was still very creepy.

I’ll be quite honest I didn’t see the ending coming but I think upon reading it again I would see all of the red herrings coming together. I thought the conclusion of the story was really well thought out.

Sarah’s relationship with the DCI did leave me with a few questions because I’m not sure that’s truly believable but having his insight to the goings on was great.

I cannot wait for more from this Author.

Out of Her Mind is one of those thrillers that grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go. Sally Hart absolutely nails it with a perfect mix of suspense, emotional depth, and twists that had me second-guessing everything. Sarah is such a compelling character, and as her past and present collide, the tension just builds and builds. The mystery kept me hooked right up to the final reveal—I couldn’t put it down! Honestly, it’s so gripping I could totally see it as a TV drama one day. If you love thrillers that keep you guessing, this is a must-read!

“Out of Her Mind” by Sally Hart was a fantastic debut by this up and coming author.
Brilliant characterisation. A good supply of red herrings to put the reader off the beaten track of who the perpetrator was that was terrorising the main character. Short snappy chapters makes the reader want to carry on reading well into the night - though beware you won’t be able to put this book down!
A superb read and I’m really looking forward to reading many more by Sally Hart.

Things keep occurring in Sarah’s house but is she responsible for them or is she just losing her mind? When her friend Anne goes missing though she begins to suspect foul play. Events lead a Detective to link Sarah to a serial killer and that’s when her life turns topsy turvey. There are lots of unexpected twists in this novel which will keep you turning the pages, I loved it.

What a delightful book to read. A storyline I haven’t encountered before gave it a freshness that many psychological books no longer have, strong characters and nothing too obvious all made for a very enjoyable read.

A really well written book and one that many others should grab with both hands, settle down with a warm drink and lose themselves in.

Thank you Bloodhound books for the chance to read this ARC.

I struggled with this one as I feel certain characters were kind of pointless and the backstory with the murders wasnt mentioned enough and once it was mentioned I’d pretty much forgotten and had to try and remember what was going on.

Slow start in the beginning but picked up about 1/4 of the way through and was well paced for the rest of the book. There were some parts that weren't well flushed out but the suspense and a couple of twists helped to keep my interest. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.

A good read, a bit slow to get going but glad I persevered with it. Sarah’s life has been far from easy, as a young child a murdered mother and a brother with life changing injuries. Sarah is having memory lapses and is questioning herself. Twists and turns that kept me wondering.
