Rate this book
Izadora Grant landed her dream with a traveling aerial show. The only problem? She’s partnered with nemesis, Chance O’Brien. In high school he stole her college scholarship and her date to prom. Now he’s stealing her moment of joy. If she wants to keep her dream—and sanity—she’s needs to fake a friendship with the one person who drives her up the wall.
Chance can’t believe Iz is standing in front of him glaring. Okay, he can believe the glaring part. He can’t help pushing her buttons. Something about facing off against the feisty woman sets a fire within.
Only now they need to stop one-upping each other and start getting along. Both have dreams and promises riding on this show. But the more they fake a friendship, the realer things get. Soon, the two discover their lifelong competition has been hiding an undercurrent of attraction neither can ignore.

I love it.

I couldn’t tell you what they were doing in that hoop and how but…damn. They got it done. And I loved how spicy it was

Love in the Air is a quick and fun enemies to lovers romance with just the right amount of spice! Iz and Chance went to high school together and competed for marks, dates, and scholarships. When they graduated, they never expected to see each other again. Then they both audition for the same aerial performance company and are partnered for a hoop routine. They must try to get along or face being kicked out of the company. Well, working that closely together leads to a whole lot more, and they both must come to terms with their pasts and their feelings for each other. I look forward to reading more from Mariah Ankenman!

I assume I bought this because I was interested in the aerial part. It wasn't that interesting because mostly I didn't understand what some of the descriptions were telling me. There were a couple proofing errors - not glaring enough to be distracting - and I didn't find it successful at building character and plot the same way a novel would. It was a bit ham-fisted: here's the personality trait, here's why, let's say it a couple times so we know. Meh.

different

Different kind of romance. Two people from high school with lots in common but were extremely competitive meet again as adults. He identifies as bi and she as pan. Chase was easier to like than Izzy who was so confrontational and blinkered. Some editing issues but overall a reasonable read.

I really wanted to like this book, but the characters felt a bit immature to me. It was giving more of a bratty teen vibe than adults with jobs and responsibilities.

This short novella even mentions some hard topics so trigger warning caution.

Also, if you live in small town that knows all your business, how was this big tragic event such a secret?

A fun and cozy romance novella. Recommend if you are looking for something fun and short. A good read if you are needing something to help with a reading slump.
