Half-breed Gabe Beaumont had had to choose between the Sioux tribe of his mother and the white family of his father, and his choice had cost him everything. Settlers had murdered his Indian wife and child, and now revenge was all he lived for.
Riding westward with a renegade Sioux band, he became Tall Bear, a warrior with a wounded soul, a man with an anger and grief that tore away his gentleness and dreams—until a raid on a Wyoming stagecoach station brought him face-to-face with a feisty, red-haired beauty who would change his life...
Faith Kelley had run from her strict, pious upbringing toward the freedom of the frontier and a reckless husband. All too quickly, tragedy left her alone with an infant son and shattered plans. But Faith had drawn strength from the soaring hills, and her tough-minded courage flared when Indians attacked the stage stop that had become her home. She never guessed that Gabe Beaumont, the handsome, dark-haired cowboy who later rode into the station, was the Sioux warrior who had led that raid. He had changed worlds to claim the woman who was his destiny—and to fight for her love against the shadows and the danger that lurked in his wild heart.
I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.
I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.
National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

I love western/frontier historical romances. I just love the simple way of living but also the danger that is around every corner. Tame the Wild Wind is my 6th book by Rosanne Bittner and another great historical romance that had me hooked until the end. In these type of stories the female characters are mostly very strong and independent, and that was also the case for this book. I loved how resilient Faith was and how determined she was to accomplish her dreams. But she was also smart enough to understand when she needed help. I loved that the author started from the beginning to give the reader a good idea what the main characters Faith and Tall Bear/Gabe went through in their lives. You see all their ups and downs and smile and mourn when they do.
Faith and Gabe come into each other's lives at the right moments. I just loved seeing these two develop feeling for one another. I believed in their love and that they were made for each other. I really enjoyed this book a lot, however I wanted more scenes where Gabe and Faith were together. There were a couple of times these two were separated, and I just couldn't wait for them to be reunited again. I have to admit that there were a couple of chapters I skipped, because I was becoming a bit impatient for them to be together again. Overall, this was a very enjoyable and great historical romance about very intriguing characters.
Sometimes 2nd reads can make a book that was okay into an enjoyable escape! Gabe and Faith have quite the journey to reach their HEA, full of trials and struggles. While Faith isn't my favorite heroine (there wasn't anything "wrong" with her -- I just didn't fully connect to her like I usually like to), I adored Gabe. While I do wish they had a bit more time together in the story, overall it's a heartwarming tale with a beautiful ending.
Tame the Wild Wind by Rosanne Bittner (1996) is a masterful and deeply emotional story about two very different people… the hero Gabe / Tall Bear of Sioux and white heritage, and Faith who was raised in the Quaker faith. Both have led different lives but they have known hardships, tragedy, and great loneliness. Thru their fierce determination, and a bazillion obstacles they finally find their happily ever after.
There’s lots of harrowing events in this unusual story which includes long passages in which the MCs are not together … in most of the first half it’s two separate stories for them, and then they briefly encounter each other but know deep down there’s an attraction. Their lives are intertwined … and later there’s a very long separation. Bittner’s superb storytelling expertly pulls this off .., I didn’t mind about this unusual construction for a HR … absolutely loved it! And it kept me glued to the story.
Overall, this is a wonderful heartwarming book full of passionate enduring love … it’s a bit different from other HRs which is a treat!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely fantastic book! Fell in love w/Rosanne Bittner and her tale of Faith and Gabe. I wanted a little something different for my reading pleasure and this book ticked off everything on my list - excitement, drama, love, romance, war and the connection between two souls that is so deep nothing can tear it apart. I will definitely be reading more of Bittner's work! Thanks!
This is yet another book in which the main characters meet early and don't spend time with each other into midway into the book. Then they have separated again until late in the book. I hope that this author hasn't decided on this 'formula' for all of her stories. It is hard to consider this a romance when the main characters spend so little time together.
It is hard to imagine that a chance meeting of three day's duration was enough to create feelings of love in these two characters. It is years before they meet again -- yet there is a total recall of the other character. I don't know; I had a hard time accepting the quick marriage and extremely long separation. 3.5 stars
3 1/2 stars. Reading some of this author's books is a bit hit and miss. Some are really good while others not so good. Any historical western romance that has a Halfbreed in it I'm usually hooked but with this book I skipped several pages. Maybe that's because it took too long for the main characters to finally meet and become serious. The first several chapters tend to be a history lesson on the characters which I found somewhat boring. The storyline spans over 35 plus years which also makes it drag on and on. It does have a HEA ending though.
I could not put it down! I fell in love with the characters and never looked back, until I finished reading. Sexy scenes, heartwarming love and dedication, I felt I was there with them, heartbeat by heartbeat.
First time with this author, and I really enjoyed the book. loved the characters and the plot. I like novels with a bit of history in them. Bravery, bad guys, romance. Well done
Rosanne Bittner's To Tame The Wild Wind, leads us on a journey of the unexpected. Faith grew up in a Quaker town, but she never could tap down her free spirit. Johnny her young love returns from the civil war with lies of his bravery on his lips. Both ready to flee the Quaker life for freedom. Westward lands calling them both. Johnny can't keep a job or stay out of gambling houses, Faith works her self to death just to keep a roof over their heads. Tragedy strikes when Johnny is murdered by their scout leading them into Wyoming territory. Gabe's dad ( a Frenchman) was murdered by robbers on the steamboats when he was 10 years old. He must take care of his Indian mom, so they flee to her people to live. Tall Bear emerges, after his mom and little sister are murdered by white men. Then Tall Bears own wife and son are gunned down by buffalo hunters. His rage & revenge begins. Faith left all alone with her dead husband to bury and the scout she murdered to protect herself. Tall Bear rides up on a lone woman with a dead man tied to her wagon. Tall Bear helps Faith bury her husband and takes her safely to a wagon depot deep in Wyoming. Both never forget one another. This is where the story begins. Will they meet again? Will Gabe/Tall Bear (a Half-Breed) return? Which world will he decide he belongs in, white man or Indian? One must read this book to find out the extraordinary book Rosanne Bittner has written. This one has many twists and heartbreaking turns as only a Bittner book can deliver. 5 stars.
This was a random pick up at the library book sale in Flint. WHICH is a blast. For 5$ you got a HUGE bag and you can shove as many books as possible into it and it is yours. They do this sale twice a year. Totally worth it if you happen to be in the area. But yesss this was one of the many I grabbed.
Oh boy.
The story follows Faith and Gabe. Faith runs away with some yahoo Johnny because she wants adventure and to be free from her family. Mind you his own mother warns against the boy, but does Faith listen? Nah. Gabe is half Native and half white. His father was murdered so he and his mom move back to her people. Things happen and his whole family is killed so he goes to get revenge. Things happen and they somehow fall in love.
Where to begin with this hot mess of a book?
Okay. FIRST Faith. OOOOOOO you idiot. She only wants to run away with this yahoo man because she wants to be free. His own mother was all MARRY ANYONE BUT HIM. PLEASE. He’s an idiot. But nope. Even after he betrays her, her father comes to save her and she is all I LOVE HIM DAD! GO AWAY! Time goes on and the yahoo dies. No spoiler there. She is all alone and preggo. Great. She gets lucky and finds a widow at the fort to take her in. Great.
Now here comes Gabe. Oh Gabe. I do feel for you. Father killed. Mom killed. Preggo wife and baby son killed. Life is not nice to him and he wants to kill people. Can you blame him? Especially because the Whites killed them. Gah. Damn racists. But yes. He stumbles across preggo Faith and helps her take care of the idiot husband of hers. They then don’t see each other for a long while. Where did this kindness come from? You shoulda murdered her. But whatever. Love/lust/stupidity. Who knows??
Now…here is my biggest and main issue with this entire story. This is supposed to be a historical romance. There was really no romance. There was no chemistry. The two barely even spent any time together. Maybe a hand full of pages? Heck…it took 100 pages or so for the two to even meet. Maybe I would’ve felt different if this was just a generic Historical Fiction? But even with that the two had NO chemistry and it was awkward when they were lovey-dovey.
The ending drama was intense and it did hook me. I was soooo worried and had no idea how everything was going to be fixed.
All-in-all, I am super disappointed by this. The story was dry and the romance even drier. The characters annoyed me. The only little gem of the story was the ending drama. Wasn’t sure how THAT was going to be fixed. Other than that. NO thank you sir. I would not recommend this if you are looking for a HR. I’ll give this 2 stars. The ending did earn one star for being super intense and pretty good.

This book got 5 stars from me because it is TRULY the first book that has ever given me tears of sadness AND tears of joy. Tame the WILD WIND was well written, with much thought and heart. The first several pages had me a little bored and thinking I wouldn't be able to finish it, for some reason I kept thinking "one more page", am I ever glad I did!! This book will stay in my mind and heart for a very long time. I will definitely read the next Rosanne Bittner book that I run across.
Long story! Enjoyed the story. You have a vivid imagination, as do most people. My great grandfather was half Indian and lived in troubled times. Your description of the character Tall bear, fit my great grandfather to a tee!! I will recommend this reading S it hits home from stories told to me by my great grandmother and grandmother. Their tales were not fiction though. Thank you
If you want to read a LOVE STORY that's a THRILLING RIDE from beginning to end!💜🩵 This book definitely has the kind of romance, trust & blind faith in one another every woman dreams of! Faith and Gabe (Tall Bear
I was able to get into the book right away, and stayed up all night to read it. I finished before I do anything else. Interesting characters and a good plot line. I would read more from this author
I love this book.I couldn't put the book down.Good story well written.Twist and turns.Adventure .I keep thinking I should lay the book down go to bed but l didn't
dnf'd. I simply couldn't get into the book. I may well try again, but somehow there was too much unnecessary backstory for me to feel any connection to the characters.
This book has to be one of my favorite books off of all the books (Native American) I've read of hers. The book is well written and it has great storyline with a beautiful ending.
Another good book of the old west filled with facts and such as good storyline! Really enjoyed reading this and looking forward to more by this author.
