Ash the Champion celebrates Ash Ketchum becoming the strongest trainer in the world. It adapts Ash's battles with Cynthia and Leon. The book is nicely written but it is clear that Pokémon battles do not translate well to text. Just seeing 'Bullet Punch' and 'Double Team' all the time doesn't help trying to convey the excited of a battle. The other problem is the characterisation or lack of. Cynthia's motivations and her whole storyline about possibly retiring is removed and there is nothing about how Ash or Leon feel about the final result. It's a solid read of young kids but even then the would probably get more enjoyment watching the battles.
