With the unexplained disappearance of male Lycoans (werewolves) 500 years prior, the burden of continuing their species has fallen solely to the females. Kiera is the first Lycoan (werewolf) to be born in centuries. The heir to her mother's pack, the 18 year old has spent the entirety of her teenage life trying to deny what she is. Growing older and becoming unable to maintain control of her pack, Kiera's mother (Katrina) tries to force her daughter to take her rightful place as the Alpha female as another faction within tries to keep Katrina's bloodline from ascending to power. Kiera, caught in the middle, seeks solace from her childhood best friend Brandon. Larissa Sinistari, the leader of the opposition, schemes and plots against Kiera and Katrina. She seeks to assume control of the pack for herself and become the Alpha thereby inheriting all of Katrina's power and belongings. Meanwhile, a creature known only as The Watcher stalks Kiera, spending the majority of its time at night spying upon her as she goes through her nightly routine in her bedroom. With its existence unknown by anyone, it is unclear if The Watcher is friend or foe and what its role will be. The longer Kiera denies who and what she is, the harder it is becoming for Katrina to retain control of the pack and whether Kiera wishes it to be or not, a change in the leadership will happen. The only question is, will Kiera accept her birthright and assume control of the pack or will she fall victim to Larissa?

A great start to this series! Kiera is a strong protagonist whose character is well fleshed-out. I love a good wolf novel and this is certainly a winner. Kiera's mom wants her to take over the family business, but Kiera is determined to live her own life. Unseen enemies may give Kiera no alternative but to fight back. This is so good and will have you turning the pages at a fast clip. I was hooked right in and finished in no time. The cliffhanger ending leaves readers wanting more. Paranormal fans looking to try a new author, should give this a try. You may discover a new author for your TBR pile. Next book please!

Okay

Lycaons. Not werewolves, but Lycaons. I imagine them looking like the 2004 Van Helsing weres. I'm disappointed the the characters are not likeable. Brandon is a wimp, and Kiera is a total jerk to everone. Middle enough, I like Katrina, Kiera's mom. Kiera has always been a spoiled brat, and I feel like she is completely unreasonable towards her mom, but her mom needed to explain things a lot sooner than she did. We get too little time with Brandon, who is her supposed love interest, and every time they get together, she is bullying him, and she doesn't think about him much when not together. Maybe the next book will have more character depth and sensible personalities.

Really Good. Was nice to see someone go from seeing a guy as a brothers to someone romance worthy. Even if he was nerdy. Because nerds are the best. Wish we had more Brandon moments.
It was written well, and was a great build up. And tied up all the loose ends at the end, and it's left with you wanting more.

Interesting story

My only issue with this story has nothing to do with the author or his writing but the MC herself. She can be so annoying and refusing to see what was right in front of her along. That being said, DC does a good job creating a pretty realistic teenage girl. It’ll be interesting to see where she goes from here.

You'll want to wolf this down!

I absolutly loved reading this book! This story is full of action and dramatic tension. I wanted to know more just a few pages in. I like the newness of this lycoan story. It isn't the same ol' same ol', it's different. If you enjoy shifter stories with details of growing and accepting that life this book is for you.
