Once again, I don't get the great reviews. I didn't care for any of the huge cast of characters and thought the writing was just plain awful, but was finishing this just because I like a challenge and wanted to see the final outcome. But no - it's to be continued! Not a chance I'll ever find out what happened!

Wow, there are a lot of characters in this book. Hahahahaha.. I draw a family tree so that I can picture their relationship :)

The story is start from Ernie's will that say Ladd Springs will be given to Felicity, Delaney's daughter. But as the days gone by, Ernie thought that Ladd Springs should be given to someone who took care of him who was Clem. Of course Delaney got angry. Ernie had promised her mother that the legacy land will be given to her daughter.

Nick Harris is a hotel developer who wanted the land. He wanted to build a hotel with spa which will not work out without Ernie's Ladd Springs. Everyday, Nick persuaded Ernie to sell the land. But one day, when he caught Delaney in the forest, he found something fishy about her. The way she kept the secret which maybe endanger that woman, made Nick became protective.

What did she see in that forest and why did Clem seems want to harm Delaney?

Though I gave 2 star doesn't mean this book is not good. Maybe it's just not for me. I love romance. I will love the book if there's a lot of romance in its plot. So, if you look for romance, maybe this book will not satisfy you. If you're searching for family conflict about inheritance and a little mystery, this one may suit for you.

The plot itself made me curious. What did Clem hide? How could Ernie didn't know what was in the forest? And until the end, Ms. Dianne Venetta kept myself asking about Casey and Annie. Whether there will be a wedding in the next book? I will love to read about Felicity, will she be with one of the twins or another man? Hahahahah..

Overall, all I can say is if you love to read a suspense and family conflict with a little romance, you should read Ladd Springs.

Ladd Springs in Tennessee has been home to the Ladd family for six generations. Now, though, the property is at risk from multiple directions. Ernie Ladd, the current owner, promised his sister on her deathbed that he would leave the land to her daughter, Delaney Wilkins, and Delaney's daughter Felicity--but Ernie can't forgive Delaney for having married the son of an old rival, even though the marriage did not survive. Hotel developer Nick Harris wants to buy the property for the latest addition to his hotel chain. Neighbor Clem Sweeney is taking advantage of Ernie's loneliness and sense of isolation--and has found a secret in the forest that, if he doesn't get caught, will make him rich.

And Ernie, even though he has plenty of money to do so, hasn't paid the property taxes in three years. If he doesn't do so soon, Nick--who is willing to pay a fair price and make provisions for the family in the deal--will wind up buying the property for back taxes.

The conflicts among the family spiral even further out of control when Delaney finds armed men trespassing on the Ladd property, seemingly having found something very, very interesting about a boulder in the woods.

The family and personal conflicts here are beautifully developed. Delaney's love for the land, Ernie's resentments and regrets, Nick's vision of "Serenity Springs," and Clem's jealousy and greed are all palpably real. We get a gradual unfolding of the sometimes painful family history, as well as Nick's background, experience, and dreams.

It's a thoroughly enjoyable novel. Recommended.

My daughter recommended this book to me. I was hooked from the beginning. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. The main character, Delaney, is a strong woman with a mind of her own who is determined to protect the property that has been in her family for generations. I was troubled by the way she treats her uncle, especially since she wants him to sign the family property over to her daughter as he promised his dying sister he would do. But Delaney’s daughter has a wonderful relationship with her great uncle. Also, Delaney is very clear that while she finds her uncle difficult, he is family and she does love and care for him.

Delaney’s uncle, the owner of the family property, is slowly dying. He promised his sister, Delaney’s mother, that he would give the family property to Delaney and her daughter. He refuses to sign the necessary paperwork and instead threatens to leave it to a neighbor. The neighbor, Clem, is low-life who was kicked out by his own family and is trying to con Delaney’s uncle out of the property by turning him against his family. Also interested in the property is hotel developer Nick Harris. To complicate things further, Delaney discovers that Clem has made a discovering on the property that could increase its value even more.
Disclosure: I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway on the premise that I would review it.

I didn't like the characters. From Nick ogling every female he sees then falling madly in love just after he finds out the secret? Too Delaney with her gun in her boot that when in trouble can't get too fast enough. All the greed over land I get but doesn't make you like the characters. Far too much going on that you get confused with the story switching between characters on a next paragraph without warning. And don't get me started on the kiss, yucky description as far as I can say. Plus ends on a cliffhanger but for a series that's to be expected but feels like it ends mid-chapter.

Ladd Springs

Property! Something to be cherished and passed down through the family. Except when some one was trying to cheat the current land owner out of his property and was willing to kidnap and murder the heir to the property. Then there was the person who was trying to purchase the property to build a resort hotel. Hum! Wonder who will win!

Good story

The story is well-developed and interesting. I liked the characters I have two things to say: there are a few words missing, and some parts of the plot go on a little too long.

Ladd Springs is a lovely book start to finish, all of the characters are so like able yet each so different from the next. As the story progressed on, the storyline became more thrilling and exciting by the second. Ladd Springs resolves around the Ladd family and the people who are connected in some way to the family.

There are many characters that are a big part of this story, Delaney who is the main person that the story revolves around. Delaney lives in a small house with her daughter Felicity, that is situated near to the main house where Ernie Ladd lives. Ernie is Delaney's mother brother and has sole ownership of the Ladd land. There is also Clem who is a sleazebag that works on the acres around the Ladd houses, he is also up to something that he shouldn't be. Nick is the other main character that is introduced early on in the book, he wants to buy the Ladd's land to build his new hotel on.

There are many other minor characters as well such as Jeremiah who is not directly in the book but his ex-girlfriend and daughter, Annie and Casey as a big part of the book in the debate over who is entitled to Ladd Springs. Travis and Troy are friends of Felicity's and are mentioned in the book several times, Susannah, Delaney's mother who has dead is mentioned in the book in relation to the land and when talking to Ernie about what her mother wanted.

This story is full of suspense and romance that is perfect for a great summer read. The book moves along at a great pace, with you wondering what is around the corner page after page. This book is worth the read, it is really amazing start to finish.

My favourite character would have to be Delaney as she is a mix between a damsel and a heroine all rolled up in one. The way she wants to protect her daughter and trying to forget her past at the same time, shows how dedicated she was to protecting her family.

I would recommend this book to anyone who like a story that is filled with a thrilling story line that has romance, drama and suspense.

If I had to sum this book up in three words, they would be Love, Thrilling and Amazing.

I would give this book a 5/5. An amazing read, perfect for this summer.

Another day, another book,

My Thoughts and Opinion:
One thing I really enjoy about the book blogging community is finding "new to me" authors at the recommendations of other bloggers. I picked up this book at the suggestion from Gina at Hott Books, and so glad that I did. This may have been my first introduction to this author but it surely won't be my last. Matter of fact, I can't wait for the sequel!!

Ladd Springs is a very wholesome and enjoyable read that contains many elements that had me turning the pages. Suspense, romance and family dynamics. A story of principals, emotions, greed, prosperity and lineage Ms. Vanetta's writing flowed and her descriptions of both the characters and settings made it very easy to visualize. There was a large cast of characters, approximately 14, but an ancestry list at the beginning of the book, helped immensely in keeping each character's role and status clear. The cast believable and relatable. As in real life, some lovable, some likable and some despised.

Ms. Vanetta is now on my "authors to read" list and I am anxiously waiting for the next installment to see what is in store for the Ladd family.

LADD SPRINGS introduces us to the Ladd family as they live in the eastern Tennessee mountains. Before the story opens, we are given a cast of characters which introduces us to exactly who the family members are in relation to each other.

The main characters in the story are Delaney, her Uncle Ernie, Clem Sweeny and Nick a hotel developer interested in purchasing the Ladd land. As the story begins we see Delaney in the woods coming across some trespassers, which introduces the reader to the mystery of the land. Delaney is upset as she is attempting to get Ernie to give the land to her daughter, but for some reason that isn't happening. The story goes on to give the reader a little mystery to solve, while leaving the reader with the mystery of just what Jeremiah has to do with the land, as he is the black sheep of the family and is he or Clem the father of Casey Owens. I found the descriptions of the land almost perfect. The hot springs, trails and horseback riding. One thing I missed was the smoky description and those mountains do look like they're covered in smoke.

The characters and storyline are generic and although the reader likes them, they are not memorable ones such as Willy Loman, Randall Flagg or Sipsy (DEATH OF A SALESMAN, THE STAND, FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE). They didn't really move me when I was reading the story. There were generalities in the story which could have made this story more memorable, such as Clem. What was the reason he was playing music loud? Why did his mom want him off the property? How did he discover the gold? What exactly happened between Clem and Annie? What made Jeremiah to leave? I'd have also liked to seen more of the relationship between Ernie and Albert and Jeremiah and Sussanah?

In short, I found this story to be one I would read to pass the time in an airport layover. I concentrate on the story because it's there and I'm there, but not to the point that I'll miss my flight announcement. Now this is the first in a series, and I realise that many of my questions could be answered later on, but with the generics involved in this story, nothing makes me want to continue reading. I don't really feel anything for the characters, I don't hate them, I don't like them. To me, they're just there and when I read the description I expected much more.

You know what? I really, really liked Ladd Springs! I know this sounds a bit strange; it's as if I am surprised by having enjoyed reading a book I selected with my tastes in mind. However, I did take something of a chance on this book; I entered (and ended up winning) a Member Giveaway on LibraryThing for this novel. I love mysteries, but as a rule I steer clear of cozies. Although, now that I think about it, I'm pretty certain the information provided on the contest site didn't trigger my dislike of this sub-genre by invoking it to describe the book. I just have seen it placed in that category since, and I would definitely say that the book has a cozy ambiance given my read of the novel.

My interest was inspired by the description of the plot and no other factor. The family inheritance dispute with so many characters at cross-purposes struck me as original, at least in light of my own previous reading experience, and as a story that could really make a novel a pageturner. Although as I've already mentioned, the atmosphere embedded in author Diane Vendetta's story is of a warm, cozy type that correlates with an underwhelming reading experience for me. However, in this case, the ambiance only enhanced my engagement with the plot, which proved interesting in accordance with my expectations. The style and setting pulled me into the story rather than pushing me out, as I worried it might before I began reading.

Thank you for reading my ideas; I hope they can help some of you to decide whether Ladd Springs would prove an unexpected (or perfectly predictable) pleasure for you.

Delaney is willing to fight for the land she calls home in the Tennessee mountains, and she may have to. Nick Harris thinks the land would be perfect for the resort he wants to develop in the area. Ernie, Delaney's uncle and owner of the property, doesn't want either of them to have it. Ernie is leaning toward leaving the land to Clem, a neighbor with a secret, but Annie Owens is also making a play for the inheritance.

This is the first novel in a series set in eastern Tennessee. The descriptions of the mountain region are wonderfully detailed. I could almost hear the stream going by as I read. Admittedly, the characters at times seem a bit stereotypical, but they seem to be developing throughout the novel, and I'm sure there will be further development as the series progresses.

A nice mystery/romance in a popular setting with mild situations; nothing objectionable.

3.5 stars

I recently read this book and absolutely loved it. I received it as part of the Goodreads First Reads and I'm so glad I did because it introduced me to an author I probably wouldn't have found on my own. I'm going to be watching for more of her books from now own, starting with Ladd Fortune.

Ladd Springs tells the story of the Ladd family and their battle over who will inherit the family land. The story is told from multiple points of view but mostly focuses on Delaney, the niece of the current owner of the property who only wants the land for her daughter to grow up on the way she did.

But the Ladd's aren't the only ones fighting over the land. Nick Harris, a hotel developer, is also trying to get his hands on the land to build his newest hotel and spa. Then there's is Clem, the neighbor who also wants the property but keeps his reasons a secret.

If you love a good mystery with a bit of action and romance, this is the perfect book for you. It jumps right into the story from the first page and before you get even halfway through you can't put it down. Definitely a must read this summer! Oh, and I almost forgot. This book will make you hungry. The author talks about food in several places and the way she describes it makes your mouth water. Especially the cornbread.

** I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

The Hatfield’s and McCoy’s had fought over a pig but they have nothing over the feud that has begun over the land rights of Ladd springs.

Ladd Springs is a gorgeous mountainous sanctuary that Delaney and her daughter Felicity Wilkins live on. The current owner is Delaney’s uncle Ernie who on his sister’s death bed promised to leave his land to Felicity but later recants. Enter in a handsome hotelier Nick, the illegitimate daughter (Casey) of Delaney’s brother Jeremiah and the swindling neighbor Clem and you have yourself the fixin’s for a good old fashioned fight.

At first glance this story seems simplistic and dull. However Venetta pulls you in with plot twists that could have deadly consequences, the beginning of a romance and good old fashioned family drama. The narrative is over flowing with flawed characters and shows depth with complicated relationships. As each new person put in their claim for the land it becomes increasing clear that all was not as it seems.

The ending is somewhat predictable or so you are lead to believe, however the sequel “Ladd Fortune” promises to have new revelations to disclose.

Delaney Wilkins is like a bush woman. She is a single mother raising her daughter. She lives alone on Ladd Springs land in a small cabin that belongs to her mother. The land has been promised to her daughter by her uncle who reigns supreme at the moment. The old man is arrogant and nasty and is now denying her daughter’s rights. Del has only one thing on her mind, and that is to ensure her daughter gets her rightful inheritance.

Ernie Ladd couldn’t be any meaner. He hates women, especially Delaney because she married his arch rival’s son. He is very cozy with Clem Sweeney, the neighbor’s black sheep son and threatens to bequeath everything to Clem.

Delaney spots some strange men in the forest and wonders what they are up to. Things heat up and she is afraid for her life. She forges an unlikely bond with Nick Harris who takes on the role of protector. What is happening on Ladd land? And why is Delaney being attacked?

The story tells us about a bunch of people fighting over the land. There are many claimants who are trying to win Ernie’s favor. On the other hand, Delaney is trying to gather proof that something shady is afoot. Nick Harris is the handsome outsider who gets involved in the whole mess.

Ladd Springs introduces us to the Ladd family and their land in Tennessee. Delaney and Nick are the main characters, though several other family members and friends are introduced as well. There are more books in the series, so this ends with a cliffhanger.

The book starts out pretty slow, but by the middle you're in the thick of it. There's constant battle and intrigue going on for different parties that want the rights to Ladd Springs. Nick proves to be a capable man and his parts are enjoyable to read when he isn't busy reminiscing on his past love life. Delaney is ridiculously stubborn and single-minded for far too long and it isn't until closer to the end of the book that she gets some decent character development.

tl;dr: lots of mystery, a dash of clean romance, family drama

While I did enjoy reading the book, the story isn't quite strong enough to hook me into continuing the series. The characters aren't particularly memorable, there's almost so much going on that it's overwhelming, and the point of view shifts are disjointing at times.

I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway.

In the eastern mountains of Tennessee a family has owned Ladd Springs for generations and the current owner Uncle Ernie is one ornery old man and making life difficult for Delaney, his niece. The characters are Southern colorful, full of opinions and willing to fight for what they want and most of them want Ladd Springs. Developer Nick Harris has made offers to Ernie but he just isn't interested. Clem the neighbor has secrets of his own and is working on Ernie to deed Ladd Springs to him. Felicity, Delaney's daughter and Ernie's niece is in the middle while working hard to finish high school and get into college.

The story moves quickly, with lots of suspense and time on the trails of Ladd Springs. The romance. the mystery and the beauty of Ladd Springs along with great character development makes this a good first novel in a series with lots of potential for the feuds to continue into the next generation.

Great first book and now I want to read more to see how it all ends!

Delaney Wilcox and her daughter Felicity live in a cabin not far from Ernie Ladd's, her uncle. They both live on Ladd Springs land which borders the park land. Nick Harris owns a chain of hotels and is persistently trying to get the Ladd's to sell him the land for his hotel, but the Ladd's repeatedly refuse. Then there's Clem Sweeney, the Ladd's caretaker. He tries to get his greedy mitts on the land, too. Two trespassers were found on the land by Delaney. She follows them to their spot in the woods to discover gold on their property. And to complicate things, Ernie's daughter n'law shows up determined to get title for her daughter. So who really is entitled to Ladd Springs? Do they sell to Nick Harris for his hotel chain? Once you start this series, you will have to read them all!

Although this book was enjoyable and suspenseful, I found the fact that there were soooo many characters in this book totally distracting. I don't want to have to go back and refer to a chart to figure out who is who thru-out the reading of a book. One is provided though, and that should have been my first clue.
I did enjoy the story of a family that is totally trying one up each other for a piece of land that each stands to inherit. I would have like to see a bit more romance in this book. I guess I assumed there would be more of it for me to feel some attachment to these characters. If you enjoy the mysteries of a family vying for what they each believe belongs to them, then you will enjoy this book.

Um. So the book just ended? Snap my fingers - just like that? I am waffling between 2 and 3 stars, but really - the book just ended. Blink - it was done! I thought my Kindle broke. I was really happy until the end. Then, just disillusionment. I mean what happens to all those characters? What happens to the hotel?? What happens to the find on the property??? I guess I am supposed to buy the next book - no thanks. Really good book with a really bad ending. It makes me very sad. I really enjoyed the characters, I was really engaged their stories and I really <---see how that just ended? :)

What a typical family is like even in the woods.

It never fails, when it comes to family money and inheritance. There 're is always that pitch curve ball that screws up everything. Then throw in the menacing builder who wants your property at all most any cost and you have one heck of a problem. Smother with a little kidnapping, murder and a dying family member and you have a disaster.
The book is wonderfully written, loved the characters, the family fights and fusses. Looking forward to the rest of the series. What to know how Mr. Harris fairs with Delaney and the hotel business.

I like them both and they work well as a couple, but the romance was a little tame for me, and I'm really not a fan of the "knight in shining armor" that Nick was. Delaney had a bad habit of getting in over her head and Nick has to save her. It was a nice romance, but the story focuses more on the family drama and the suspense aspect than the romance, which works fine for me but if you're looking for a straight romance, this isn't it.

I enjoyed it. I'll be interested in seeing what happens next in Ladd Springs.

The characters in Ladd Springs were very stereotypical, which bothered me quite a bit. Coming from a girl who has lived most of her life in the hills of Tennessee, I definitely know people like these characters, but I promise you not all Tennesseans are like them. Some of the characters grew/matured as the story progressed. All in all, I ended up enjoying the story. It was a quick read, that provided a nice little escape.

Great first book to a great series. The author writes series like they used to be written, with a cliff hanger! It's like a soap opera on Friday's, in the sense that, you will understand the finality of the episode but be left wanting to watch next week! The book however is not nearly as dramatic and shallow like a soap opera. It has emotion and feeling as the characters struggle to do what each thinks is right as others show their greedy, seedy natures. Something for everyone in this series...

I enjoyed reading this book but disappointed with the end. This book is a lead into the 2nd book in the series. It has left me with too many questions and no closure with this book. I am use to series where characters have different storylines completed with each book. In the beginning, there were a lot of characters introduced. I would suggest you bookmark the character listing in the book for future references. For me, the book was slow in the beginning and didn't start to pick up until after midway through.

I have finished Ladd Springs (Book 1) and am really looking forward to reading the other four. I was so happy to finally receive my copies last week. The story developed well and by the second chapter, I was interested. By the end of this book, I have to read all the others. I love books about family sagas and it never hurts to have some intrigue and mystery thrown in. Also, love stories are nice. This is a combination and works very well together. Hope you all enjoy reading this series!
